Fallen from grace and sheltered in a convent, Lady Edlyn is a skilled herbalist forced to secretly tend the wounds of Hugh de Florisoun. A knight renowned for his prowess on the battlefield and in the bedchamber, Hugh is a man who is no stranger to Edlyn's heart.
Using the healing magic of herbs and the power of remembered love, Edlyn saves the warrior's life. Now Hugh claims this brazen beauty for his own. But Edlyn, cynical in the ways of men, denies him—even as her flesh burns with unaccustomed fire. Passion becomes their battleground with no mercy given...in a bold age when danger and desire go hand in hand.

Readers become writers, and Christina has always been a reader. Ultimately she discovered she liked to read romance best because the relationship between a man and a woman is always humorous. A woman wants world peace, a clean house, and a deep and meaningful relationship based on mutual understanding and love. A man wants a Craftsman router, undisputed control of the TV remote, and a red Corvette which will make his bald spot disappear. When Christina’s first daughter was born, she told her husband she was going to write a book. It was a good time to start a new career, because how much trouble could one little infant be? Ha! It took ten years, two children and three completed manuscripts before she was published. Now her suspense, paranormal, historical, and mystery novels have been translated into 30 languages and sold more than 15 million copies in print. Praised for her “brilliantly etched characters, polished writing, and unexpected flashes of sharp humor that are pure Dodd” (Booklist), her award-winning books have landed on numerous Best of the Year lists and, much to her mother's delight, Dodd was once a clue in the Los Angeles Times crossword puzzle. She lives with her family in the Pacific Northwest, where her 700 lavender plants share the yard with her husband’s various “Big Projects,” including a treehouse, zipline, and their very own Stonehenge. Enter Christina’s worlds and join her mailing list for humor, book news and entertainment (yes, she’s the proud author with the infamous three-armed cover) at christinadodd.com. For more information on A DAUGHTER OF FAIR VERONA, visit daughterofmontague.com. Her legions of fans know that when they pick up a Christina Dodd book, they'll find the story, "Wildly entertaining, wickedly witty!" Christina is married to a man with all his hair and no Corvette, but many Craftsman tools.
‘A Knight to Remember’ was a fast-paced, entertaining read with just the right amount of romance. As always, Christina Dodd doesn’t fail. I’ve always enjoyed her historical romances and mean to read many more. If you love stubborn knights, headstrong heroines and lots of action, then this is just the book for you.
This was so much fun!! She doesn't want to fall for another warrior, he's never been married. She's afraid of his dying in battle, so she won't give him her heart. He knows how to seduce women, but not how they think, feel and love. He wants her heart, because she has his, but he can't tell her that. He manipulates her into marriage, and wonders why she's so mad at him. They need a lot of work, but they find learning about each other goes both ways, and the journey is have the fun. I really enjoyed this, as I really enjoy all of Christina Dodd's books.
I miss the days when medievals were popular. They are fantastic when done right. A few unlikely outcomes here and there in the book, but overall a great journey into another era. Very good world building by Dodd.
A Knight to Remember is a book I'll remember. This is the second in the series and what a wild ride it was. Edlyn is the heroine whom we met in Once A Knight where she was being fostered by the heroine. The hero, Hugh, was also in that book being fostered as a knight. She was a girl of 17 and in love with him but he hardly noticed her. She was sent to a Duke of very advanced age and A Knight to Remember picks up her story.
She has been widowed twice, the Duke was old and died of natural causes and the King married her to a knight who eventually became a traitor to the king and was caught and executed. The traitor's castle and its occupants, including his wife and sons, and title were given to someone else and she was left out on the road with nothing. She headed to the abbey she had previously endowed but with a now lowered status because of her dead husband's perfidy.
Hugh and Edlyn both have secrets they keep from each other for awhile but they do not distort the story. Edlyn is opposed to the forced marriage with Hugh because he is a knight and she has been married to a knight before and did not like being left to fend for herself while her husband pursued his mistress of battle. Hugh is every inch a knight. He lives for and loves battle but he is smitten by Edlyn and wants her to love him.
There are several very classic situations of Mars/Venus communication that had me laughing out loud. Christina Dodd writes men very well. This is a strong heroine whose strength is so subtle the enemy doesn't know what's hit him until she is triumphant, and all without bloodshed. She is one clever lass. I never got frustrated with her or with him for that matter, both stayed in character and their points-of-view were realistic.
The action never stops, nor did the enjoyment of reading this book.
I adore Christina Dodd's heroines. This one knows the trick to circumventing the actions of the men with all the power in order to achieve secure results, and ends up saving the day more than once.
A fun story, though with several glaring anachronisms that threw me off.
Not a great novel for Dodd. The romance is flat and the story boring. The characters weren't all that likable and there was a bit of jerkiness in the pacing. More could be said, but basically this is a dime a dozen historical romance. Read it if it's free, but don't bother seeking it out.
And another medieval romance... when it's not my favourite fare. But this one was really well done: swift pacing, great characters, nice wit, some angst, a bit of adventure... a very well-rounded story written with style!
The title says 'A Knight to Remember' but in all fairness, it should have been 'A Lady to Remember', because Edly was the real star of the story. CD did a marvellous job in making her time and again the heroine who saves the day in the face of all those high-handed warriors. I literally cheered every time she best them with her subtle methods while maintaining her candid grace 😁!
If you want a medieval romance (non-highlander), then this one is worth exploring 👍

An interesting historical romance with likable characters and an admirable effort to capture the mindset and mores of the middle age (without bogging us down in historical detail). I enjoyed the plot and characters.
This is the most sexist book I've ever read by far. I was forever rolling my eyes. "She is an exemplary woman, but she's only a woman, and she'll only be happy when she accepts the guidance of a man. Men are, by definition, the wiser gender." I can't even.... 🙄
Dodd is my anti-Hunter, undoing much of that sickening subjogation "romance" with the novels I've read so far. I still haven't compared who wrote which story when/first, but when they start with similar plots, Dodd has a genuinely resourceful woman get together with a man who has to change (his views) for them to reach a happy end, not for her to accept submission and possession as the natural and right way and be compensated by sex whenever he wants to. Yet oddly enough I see reviews for Dodd claiming non-con where there wasn't one (but nearly prevented me from reading), while the really troubling hostile "romance" thrives elsewhere.
Dodd mentions God in the notes and in the text, but never comes across as preacherly or naive (instead pointing out that the enemy has luck if they win, ones own have god on their side, something very contemporary still). When peasants are brutally abused here, it doesn't ultimately benefit the heroine, as in Chadwick; rape isn't accepted as what every man "just did"; sex brings them together but never enslaves the heroine. The "baddie" Richard was also so funny in the final scene that I'd like to read his story now.
This is on my DNF shelf. I couldn't get past how arrogant Hugh is. And I understand that he had the mindset of men of that time. That doesn't mean I enjoy reading him belittling and making decisions for the heroine (a HUGE pet peeve of mine in books, that type of alpha male is NOT sexy to me!). I felt that the narrative was choppy and the writing was subpar--especially for Chritina Dodd. I usually start reading her novevls and just speed through them. This one I kept rolling my eyes at the cheesy and forced dialogue, putting down the book and sighing in annoyance at the hero's frustrating personality until I finally realized a romance novel shouldn't be this boring or stressful. So DNF it is.
Although I have not finished reading this story yet. I gave it a low rating based on the male characters in this story, Hugh, the male character of the story. especially. His controlling behavior towards the female character, Edelyn, is VERY off-putting. BUT the story picks up when you get to the middle of the book, SHE starts making decisions and HE does what she wants which I am sure he probably doesn’t like because he is supposed to be a leader of his men and he doesn’t seem like the kind of man who likes taking orders from a woman, even when that woman is his wife because it makes him look “weak” in front of his men...But it’s great that he finally starts showing her some respect for a change. I was happy to read this book once he started doing that.
This historical romance involves a few unique twists to the budding relationship that I found refreshing and fascinating at the same time. It also explored something I don't often see explored in historicals involving knights and their women, which is a juxtaposition of the male need to conquer vs the female tendency to worry, and how those perspectives color (or might have colored) *everything*, really. Excellent romance, but also just an excellent exploration of human philosophy and character. I'd highly recommend it.
This was the second book to the Knight series from this author. It was a quick read and I enjoyed it. The woman is strong and can take care of herself. I love her strength and the humor that the story has in it. I also liked how the hero was able to be a man and realise that the heroine could take care of herself even when it made her look smarter.
This book disappointed me. I thought I was going to read a serious book, which turned out to be a lightweight, a bit on the silly side, novel. Good for a lighthearted read, but not what I was hoping for, a good deep serious romance. Oh, well...
On offer at 0.99. I haven't read historical romance in a while, as they're not my cup of tea. But I admit this made me smile. I liked the heroine, even if the men in the book were particularly dense. :)
Note that there were many editing and proofreading errors.
I should have liked this far more than I did. It has a lot of tropes I like - heroine saves hero's life, hero deciding to have the heroine without really getting her to consent, and trying to get her to come around, etc. However I just couldn't get into the characters.
3.5 stars I like a determined MMC and sweet FMC. Although the FMC was a little too stubborn. I understood why she felt the way she did but I thought it was unfair of her to take it out on Hugh. But overall I liked the book.
3.5⭐️ Strong h who can take care of herself. Warm/caring H (even though he had a sexist leaning you would expect from medieval men)… Good plot outside of the romance plot (i.e. with the rebellion)… I had a hard time putting it down towards the end.
Sweet story of Edlyn, ex-duchess of Cleere and Hugh de Florisoun, loyal, chivalrous knight.
Edlyn fostered in castle where Hugh was a steward, and she had a crush on him... but she was married off... then married again (1st husband old, 2nd husband a duke who was extremely unfaithful... to the point of raping her maid - in their bedchamber while she was there... and she raised the maid's son with her own when the maid died in childbirth). She managed her husband's estates, and endowed a nunnery as one of her duties... but when her husband supported a usurper to the king, and was hung as a traitor, she and her sons were turned out to the streets without any means of support. A year later, she and her sons live in the nunnery, where she is training as the herbalist.
Hugh is the stereotypical knight with a great heart... and he fancied Edlyn way back when... but... He is rewarded for his loyalty to the king with the duke's estates (not knowing anything about Edlyn)... on his way to claim it, they are ambushed, and he is injured. His man takes him to the nunnery, to the herbalist's hut, and forces Edlyn to act as healer - and to keep others from knowing they are there... they recognize each other, he almost dies, she manages to pull him through, he wakes up and decides he is going to marry her...
and though she says no, especially after finding out where they will live, but he overrides her... he thinks he will tame her but...
she is tired of men's ways, and of war... and uses her wits twice to win the day... once when a group of 2nd/3rd son lords who have become a gang of thieves of the rich kidnap them... and she charms them, treats them as lords, tells them a fascinating story, and wins their freedom (with a request rthat her husband make their case to the king for amnesty and their castle)... and secondly, when he claims his new castle, he is automatically ready to throw out the steward and housekeeper (married) assuming their loyalty to the traitorous lord before him. She convinces him to give them a chance, and it serves them well.
He is called out to fight a battle..., and he uses his wits, like his wife, to win the battle (he knew the mercenary Irish that were helping the rebels, and he shared ale with them in secret the night before, and suggested now was the time to go home, before they are mistreated by the rebels) and the former lord of his estate tries to steal it back. They manage to hold him off, Hugh rushes back, but doesn't have enough of his men to win (though he's going to give it his best shot)... and the 2nd/3rd son lords show up to help... a win win for all.
and they lived happily ever after.

This picks up about 10 years after we first met Hugh and Edlyn. She has now buried two husbands; one of old age and the other because he was a traitor to the king. He has yet to be married. The story starts after the death of her second husband, when she and her sons have been thrown out of their house and found a new home at an abbey. She has not taken the vows but has started her 8 year old sons on the way to priesthood. She works as the abbey herbalist. She is held at knife point by a strange man who forces her to tend to his sick master in secret. The sick man is Hugh. She pulls him back from the brink of death and to repay her he basically forces her to marry him. Oh, and right after their wedding she finds out it was him who captured her 2nd husband and turned him over to be hanged. Hugh has earned himself a title and lands for his efforts fighting for the king so they are traveling to his new home. The ferry they are on falls apart and they get captured, but Edlyn is able to secure their release by telling a story. Richard, their captor decides he likes her very much and that makes them friends (not in a creepy way). They finally reach their new home and then Hugh is called to fight. While he is gone the keep is attached by its former inhabitant, a huge creep who is obsessed with Edlyn. Word gets to Hugh after he won the fight he was sent to. He gets back in time, but it's a close call. Then Richard, their former captor shows up to help Hugh and his men and they win, with the help of Edlyn and her quick thinking. Hugh finally tells Edlyn he loves her, she reciprocates. The end. I was irritated with this book early on, the way Hugh refused to listen to her; the way he thought she was just a woman. But he started paying attention and realized that she actually does know some stuff and the puts it to use, and has success. His growth was important for changing my opinion of the story. I am interested to see if Richard gets his own book, or if it moves on to something and someone else.

This book was fun. I enjoyed it it from start to finish.
Hugh is a sexist knight who gets injured in battle, and ends up meeting a women he knew when they were fostering together at the same castle. She is now 28, twice a widow, and despite having a crush on Hugh when they were kids, does NOT not want to get remarried. However, due to her horrible now dead husband she is living a rather precarious life. She lives at a convent, but is not a nun because she didn't have enough money to buy a place. She is a charity case. Then Hugh comes around and offers to marry her... but Edlyn does not want to be married to a knight again who will just die in battle. However, Hugh will not take no for an answer.
Hugh is a bit of a villain. He reminded me of Harry Rutledge from Tempt Me At Twilight by Lisa Kleypas. He wants Edlyn. He immediately remembers her from their childhood, and is smitten. He knows he is offering her a way better life for Edlyn AND her children, but she is too prideful to accept. So Hugh goes about getting her to marry him by tricking her. Hugh and especially his servant her extremely sexist, to the point of it being just plain silly. Thankfully Edlyn, and the abbess put him in his place multiple times. He grows and I felt had a good amount of character growth by the end. He learns to respect women by the end, or at least his wife.
