This book is a visionary collection of writings by Eugenia Barba, founder of the Odin Teatret, and one of Europe's most influential theatre directors. This lavishly illustrated volume details the interchange of Western and Asian acting technique, new scientific thought, and theatre anthropology in his work. He unites performance and ecology in the cultural politics of the "floating islands."
Eugenio Barba is an Italian author and theatre director based in Denmark. He is the founder of the Odin Theatre and the International School of Theatre Anthropology, both located in Holstebro, Denmark.
This book offers a comprehensive overview of the Barba's ideology. The "floating island" is "an uncertain place that disappears under the feet, but can allow we meet and exceed our personal limits". Barba defines, on the one hand, the actor who follows the established traditions and the demands of the theatrical market, but ,on the other hand, the "speed travelers" who discover that they can build other differents things which they had never thought before. This book is a good example of one of the most important movements of contemporary theater: the anthropological theater. It's worth reading.
