This was okay. After reading the Indiana Jones books, I can say that this wasn't really good. The perspective I have now gained has allowed me to say this was a huge disappointment. I wish it was more limited in its third person. I wish Rick stopped reminding us of his utter devotion to Evy in his head. We got it after the second time you thought it and based on the movies.
I love this movie and the cartoon based of the movie so much but not the book. I still want to find the first book in paperback but I'm not certain I will read it. I just don't like having only the second book.
The Mummy Returns - Nancy Taylor (Adaptor), John Whitman, Stephen Sommers (Moviemaker), Andy Hopkins (Editor), Jocelyn Potter (Editor) (2001) (The Mummy #2) [Penguin Readers Elementary (Level 2)]
Theme: History/ Archaeology of Ancient Egypt/ Good over evil/ Man’s struggle for power/ Love and hate
Opener: “Egypt, 4000 BC The tall, strong young man walks across the desert. There are a lot of dead soldiers, his soldiers, on the ground at his feet. After many great battles with the Egyptians, they will never see their homes in Akkad again. But the Scorpion King didn’t die with his men because he wears the Bracelet of Anubis on his arm.”
Summary: The evil mummy Imhotep returns to wreak havoc as he resumes his relentless search for power and immortality. To make matters worse, another ancient evil has been unleashed, even more dangerous than Imhotep. Only the heroic Rick O'Connell and his intrepid Egyptologist wife stand in the way of these twin terrors as they embark upon a desperate mission to save the world.
Final Review: The book has a healthy dose of action sequence despite being a short book. The story progression is quick. Overall, I enjoyed the book.
This book was a far cry from the movie, which I adore. When I requested this book from the library, I'd been under the impression that it was a novelization of the book, instead of a kid's version of it. It was almost painful to read it was so dumbed down. This book was even worse than the first one. The scarabs were called 'little animals'. If anything, they are bugs.
