Throughout his publishing career, Dr. Kenneth Nathaniel Taylor's dream was for all peoples of the world to read and understand God's Word and experience its power at work in their lives. From his earliest children's books to his generous support of Christian ministry, this vision was (and still is) reflected in his work. Ken Taylor, founder of Tyndale House Publishers, died in June 2005 at the age of 88. Early in his publishing career in the 1950s as director of Moody Press, Dr. Taylor wrote several children's books. Born out of experience with his own ten children, "Stories for the Children's Hour," "The Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes," and others are now being enjoyed by a third generation of children. "My First Bible in Pictures" was included in "Publishers Weekly"'s list of "All-Time Best-Selling Children's Books" in 2001. His love for children (including his 28 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren) continues to inspire new titles. In fact, it was his children, in their confusion over the meaning of the King James Version, who prompted his mission to make the Bible understandable for everyone. Dr. Taylor's "Living Letters," a thought-for-thought translation of the New Testament Epistles, was published by the newly formed Tyndale House Publishers in 1962. The complete "Living Bible" followed in 1971 and has now sold over 40 million copies in its many editions. In 1996 Tyndale House introduced the "Holy Bible," New Living Translation. In keeping with Dr. Taylor's vision of Scriptures that everyone can read, the New Living Translation is a thought-for-thought translation that is exegetically accurate and idiomatically authoritative. Ninety of today's leading Bible scholars worked with Tyndale House to develop this easy-to-understand translation. Tyndale has become one of the top evangelical publishers in America and today publishes books, several Bible lines, periodicals, and videos. During the past 40 years, Tyndale House has distributed over 100 million Bibles, New Testaments, and Bible portions worldwide. Dr. Taylor used the success of "The Living Bible" to further his mission by distributing all its royalties to Christian ministries worldwide. He founded Living Bibles International (which merged in 1992 with the International Bible Society) for translating, publishing, and distributing modern-language versions of the Bible around the world. His life of service has been recognized with at least 30 honors and awards from different organizations, including four honorary doctorates. In October 2000, Dr. and Mrs. (Margaret) Taylor were awarded the Distinguished Service to Family Award by Wheaton College. A graduate of Wheaton College, with graduate studies at Dallas Theological Seminary and Northern Baptist Theological Seminary, Dr. Taylor held 15 directorships with Christian organizations at home and abroad.
The kids really enjoyed this Bible, specifically the question at the end of each page. I would say it’s definitely for younger children but my 6 & 9 year old were still into it. Was a good first Bible for us to read together as a family 🤗
I don’t think children learning about God need to learn about killing, dying etc at a young age, yet this book is for 3year olds? Children should be learning about the love God gives within and in the world. Be kind to animals etc. there are ways to word even death and murder in an age appropriate way, and this is not a good representation of a book geared towards such a huge age group.
this Bible would be great for smaller kiddos. my 5 year old enjoyed it but my 10 year old was quick to say "they left out ... " in other parts. there's some major details left out in a lot of the stories.
I liked the story but didn't like how the author explained the story and found it too kiddish for my age. I might have liked this book if i were much younger.
This is a good introduction to Bible stories. The stories are very basic. Questions on each page check for comprehension or how the story relates to the child's life. Well-illustrated.
This Bible is my favorite read-aloud Bible for toddlers. The pictures are warm, friendly, and not too cluttered. The text is a young child size, clear, bold, and every part has a question to ask your child. This is such a favorite, that our church gives this book to every family with the birth or adoption of each new child. It's also neat because many of our adults had an older version of Kenneth Taylor's child-friendly bible read to them. And soon the ones who were given this Bible will be having their own children. It's also child-size, easy to carry, a hardback, and durable.
The text is truth from the bible in kid known words. Well-chosen events from bible history are featured.
Very short, colorfully illustrated Bible stories for the very young. Each two-page spread includes a question and the source in the Bible for the story. Read one or half a dozen--whatever your two-year-old's attention span. Ken Taylor wrote The Bible In Pictures for Little Eyes that was my first Bible story book two generations ago. He is still helping families to gather around the Word and inspiring little ones to love the Bible.
The only great thing about this little bible is that it is small and attractive to small children. It is very boring to read aloud, but very good for beginning readers who are already familiar with the stories. The stories have no beginning or end, and are just cobbled together, and don't make much sense, but for a beginning reader this is perfect.
This was my very first Bible as a child. My mom read it to me every night. Though, it wasn’t until recently that I went back to relive those childhood moments in bed. The illustration was amazing, as well as the boldness of the stories. The stories of the Bible did not get washed out because it is a children’s Bible, very good book indeed!
