Het is een jaar geleden dat de ouders van Kars en Isa een camping zijn begonnen in de Dordogne. Timboektoe is dankzij de hulp van alle vrienden inmiddels een populaire camping.
Zodra de zomervakantie aanbreekt, reist de vriendengroep meteen naar Frankrijk. Annabel en Justin kunnen niet wachten tot ze Kars en Isa weer zien. Het belooft een heerlijke zomer te worden. Maar al snel gebeurt er van alles. De vader van Jules kondigt aan dat hij wil verhuizen. Jules vindt het verschrikkelijk, helemaal omdat zijn hond niet mee kan. Een meisje van de camping wordt verliefd op Kars, en probeert hem en Annabel uit elkaar te drijven. Edgar krijgt verkering met de Franse Sophie, maar haar ex Alain laat dit niet op zich zitten en begint met zijn vrienden Edgar te bedreigen.
Op een nacht breekt er brand uit op het terrein van de camping. Is het een ongeluk of is het vuur aangestoken? En zijn alle inspanningen om van de camping een succes te maken, voor niets geweest?

About the author

Carolina Sophia (Carry) Slee (Amsterdam, July 1, 1949) is a Dutch children's author. She also writes books for adults.
Her books are based on teenagers, who have problems with their environment and are thus deeper into trouble. Or children who do not understand why mommy is acting so strangely, and where her big belly is suddenly coming from!

For her first books were her own daughters a major source of inspiration. For "Sorrow with mayonnaise" she used a lot of stories where a daughter came home. The atmosphere in the classroom in the book was exactly in the class of the subsidiary. The nasty girl Simone Slee is based on a neighbor kid that her daughters thought was very annoying.
As her daughters grew older, they often read the letters in the back page of the TV Guide. As she reads the letter from a boy who tells that his neighbor, who got bullied so badly, that she jumped in front of a train, Sled was so upside down of the story that she wrote the book "Regret" (1996). For this book she gets the prize of the Young Jury.

Een van de vele leuke boeken van Carry Slee die je het verhaal insleurt en niet laat stoppen met lezen voor je hem uit hebt.

A detailed blow-by-blow account of an 8 year old [and her older sister] trying to survive emotionally with a mother who has some kind of psychological disorder.
Talk about dysfunctional family.

I felt it was very repetitive and went on and on way too long [I felt that way about 1/3 into the book], but it really does get the point across of how terribly confusing and damaging it is for a child to grow up with this kind of parent.
The mother contradicts herself all the time, nothing anyone does is right. The poor kid tries to please her mother and help her mother all the time, and all she gets is criticism and blame. Yet she can't help feeling she must take care of her mother and do what she says.

The many books Slee has written for adolescents might be good ones, on various emotional problems in growing up.

Dit boek vind ik misschien wel een van de leukste uit deze serie. De broer van brian wordt verliefd op Sophie. Maar Sophie heeft met Alian een grote "stoere" jongen. Als Alian merkt dat Sophie ook verliefd is op Edgar (broer Brian). Bedreigd hij Edgar, maar edgar trekt zich er niks van aan. Als Sophie en Edgar wat hebben word Edgar in elkaar getrapt. En dan ligt hij in het zieken huis. Alian en een andere vriend worden op gepakt.maaar de andere 2 vrienden lopen nog vrij rond en steken uiteindelijk Timboektoe in brandt!
