From the bestselling author of THE PUPPY PLACE.

Mia and Michael Battelli want a pet more than anything. And a cuddly cat or kitten would be perfect for their small brownstone apartment. But their parents aren't sure Mia and Michael are ready for the responsibility.

Then Mia spots a tiny calico foraging for food. Callie doesn't seem to belong to anyone--and she's hurt. Mia can't just leave her to fend for herself! But what if she can't convince her parents to keep the sweet little kitten? Will Callie ever find a home?

★★★★ Callie (Kitten Corner book 1) by Ellen Miles
This is the first book of the Kitten Corner series. This book would be good for young readers.
Callie is a little calico kitten. Mia spots her one day digging through trash. Michael and Mia want a pet so bad. Michael wants a puppy, while Mia thinks a kitten would be better. But mom says NO. She thinks an apartment is no place for an animal. Animals need space. However, mom can’t say no to a hurt animal. So, mom agrees, to let the kids take care of it, until it gets its health back. Now the kids have got to think quick, so they don’t have to get rid of her.
Callie teaches caring, responsibility, and the importance of keeping pets healthy.

Five to eight year olds will love this gentle book about an 8 year old who wants to have a cat but lives in an apartment too small for a pet. I loved how nicely the girl and her 10 year old brother treated each other. I liked the way she thought about the choices in behavior she had and decisions she made about how she would act.

I would feel good about giving this book to my grandchild or child.

The story is that Mia finds a stray kitten with a hurt paw. Her mom does not allow pets, though. They find the cat and her mom takes her to the vet to get her paw healed. The mom agrees to let the cat stay at their home until they can find another family for the cat. However, the cat likes to escape. The family can not decide what to do about the cat. Finally Mia remembers that Mr. Li, the local grocer, used to have a cat. They ask him if he wants the cat. He agrees.

Mia doesn't get to keep the cat but she can visit her anytime. The story ends with the family saying that perhaps in the future they will get a pet.

This is a cute and very short book about a family and a stray cat named Callie. Mia and Michael have been wanting a pet for a long time, but their parents refuse to allow them to get one. Mia wants a cat and Michael wants a dog. When the family comes across a hurt stray kitten, they have to figure out what to do about it.

I liked this book. It reminds me a lot of the Animal Ark series I used to read as a kid, but it is shorter, simpler, and allows a little more animal perspective. I thought it was fun and that it could be a good series to look into more.

Mia and Michael are in elementary school. They'd like to have a pet but they live in an apartment and their parents don't it's the right time or place to have one.

One day Mia and Michael are going home after school and Mia hears a meow. She discovers a kitten and when they catch her, they discover the kitten, who Mia names Callie since she is a calico, has a cut on her paw and take her to the vet. They agree to foster Callie for a week until her paw is better. But Callie isn't used to being cooped up in an apartment and wants to be free. They don't feel comfortable with the thought of letting the kitten loose so they need to find the right home for her.

Though this book is a quick read and directed at elementary-aged children, I found it entertaining. There was a cat quiz at the end along some info about cats. It is written in third person perspective and first person from Callie's point of view. It is the first book in the Kitty Corner series.

This was the first chapter book I read aloud to my daughter. It's a cute tale of what it's like to want a kitten but not be able to keep her. Easy to read and a good starter novel for my daughter. I'll read many more to her.

My children liked this story. I thought it was a bit dull. The parents were a bit odd and strict I thought. Predictable ending, but happy.

I actually really thought this was a great book for Lucy EXCEPT for the parts where the cat is having an interior monologue. WTF? The thoughts of the cat were, well...stupid. The book would have been wonderful without it. I think most kids can relate to wanting a pet and it is commendable that 1) the cat misbehaves by continually running away, and 2) the parents don't give in and let them keep the cat.
