Elizabeth Wakefield has never felt so panicked! She's supposed to be completely in love with Todd, but all she can think about is Jeffrey. She broke up with Jeffrey because Todd moved back from Vermont... and she wanted to give their love another chance. Elizabeth loves Todd, but she can't keep pretending that her feelings for Jeffrey have stopped. When Elizabeth sees a forlorn Jeffrey at the Dairy Burger, she has to talk to him. Who knows what will happen? And what if Todd finds out?
This was my first Sweet Valley purchase, after my sister recommended the series to me. It isn't that bad. I only give it 2 stars because an Elizabeth/Sam romance doesn't seem very plausible.
I became a Sweet Valley fan around age 10 or 11 and while I read some of the regular series books, these Secret Diaries and the other magna editions were my favorites. The drama was over the top when reading about it in a "greatest hits" format like this. This was such fun to reread.
Even as a kid I thought it was odd that Elizabeth had the stereotype of being the faithful one-man-woman when all she did was serially cheat on her long-term boyfriends. At least Jessica was honest and just played the field without making any bones about what she was up to - well, excepting all of the times she cheats with whoever Elizabeth is dating at the time.
This was actually a good book. Much better than I was anticipating. Some, actually a lot, of this book is super cheesy. However, if you are in the mood for a mindless read about relationships, this book is for you. There is a lot of boy talk, matchmaker skills, and dating that happens. This all starts out when Todd, Elizabeth's boyfriend, moves. They eventually decide to break up and this is about what she goes through and how she handles it. At the very end, he comes back and says that he will always love her. She says the same, even though she is in another relatioship at the moment. All very scandolous, especially at the high school level.
