Alike other Chicken Soup books this was full of wonderful, cheerful, overwhelming and delightful short-stories that are mostly based to mend the mentally abused tortured or suffering minds.
It encourage to readers understand that it is not only you who has, had or is pushing things a head but there is a heap of people who have maintained their life even in the worst state of their life which might be a useful assert for their self motivation.
Some of the stories just might make you feel like crying, some might take you to seventh havens, some might be good to debate and some might be sordid but it is conformed no one will ever regret to after they are done reading the book. -I liked it alot Over and Out Rao Umar
It is not a book to be read in a day, but a teacher with good examples for your life. Whenever you feel something, you can go to this book and have the suitable spoon of the chicken soup.
I always love the Chicken Soup for the Soul books. They're a perfect read right before going to sleep, short stories and poems, none more than a few pages long. It's a nice way to drift off with pleasant thoughts in your head. They're not all "Christian, but a good number are. That's a plus for me. If you like inspirational stories with a spiritual bent, you will enjoy these.
This book was also a gift from my friend Teresa. I enjoyed most of the stories, but I have to admit that I did enjoy more the first delivery of Chicken Soup for the Soul. This is a good “serving” though. I laughed, cried, reflected on certain topics, and overall had a good time reading this book. I still can’t concentrate much while I read, so it was a great read to keep me entertained for a couple of days. Some of the stories have great messages, so it’s worth your time if you are not that picky or judgmental when it comes to books or short stories.
It's not just a book. Instead, I'd call it a love and heal medicine to all the swollen and shattered hearts out there. Chicken soup's have always helped me revive my soul and remind myself of the goodness in this world when I frequently forget to. Thanks to all the Authors and Contributors of Chicken Soup.
Another great collection of stories, poems and art! Honestly, the repetitious nature of this series is not getting to me as much as I thought it would. And this is a pretty good installment of the collection. Pretty much if you've read one book of this series, you read them all,but the individual stories in each volume are worth reading.
I read it because my friend recommended me this book and I liked it the inspirational stories and beautiful messages of self love, encouragement, friendship, motivation to pursue goals etc…. I gave 3 stars because I am not into motivational books and having to read a little everyday
Um, bathroom reading. Several chestnuts in this one. Surely they had enough notice by the reading community to get solicitations by the third volume....
The book has 101 short stories with around 10 stories grouped together into a section.
‘Fourteen Steps’ (section - Overcoming Obstacles ) . This is about a man who had a hard childhood, but when he grew up he had a comfortable life. Doom dawns on him one day, when he realizes that he is inflicted with motor nerves disease that makes him a bitterly disillusioned cripple who gets depressed with his life. He is sinfully humbled when an old man and his granddaughter help him out with a flat tyre on a stormy evening and he later gets to know that the old man is blind. Quote: I realized that I was filled to overflowing with self-pity, indifference to the needs of others and thoughtlessness.
‘ Lady, Are you rich’ (section- A matter of Perspective ) is about a not-so well-to-do lady who invites 2 poor children home for a hot drink on a rainy day. The kids instantly gather the opinion that the lady is very rich because her cups match her saucers and because she has a house! The lady suddenly looks through their little eyes, their perspective makes her realize that she has been richer than she had ever imagined and thanks lord for sending these tiny eye-openers to her home!
‘ Consider This’ (section - Overcoming Obstacles ) is a write-up by the authors themselves. This is a collection of anecdotes having true examples of people who strove to convert the piercing stones of failures in their path to stepping stones of success. One of the surprising incidents mentioned here was that the first book of Chicken Soup series was rejected by 33 publishers before getting published! The rejection comments were, “No one wants to read short stories today.” Today, this series serves the most popular and loved platters distributing savored dishes to different parts of the globe. Quote: The greater the obstacle, the more the glory in overcoming it. When you don’t hear opportunity knocking, find another door.
‘ Johhny’ (Section- A matter of Perspective ) is a story about a sales/billing representative who finds new ways of adding flavor and colour to not only his life but also to the lives of others. After handing over each bill, he puts in a handwritten quote of the day taken from various sources or even quotes made by him. This little gesture surprisingly entices aweing responses from customers. Many customers start thronging to his queues for billing since they prefer his services over other counters!
To Beth’s First Grade Teacher (Section - On teaching and Learning ) Most of us vividly remember our school first days. But here is an immensely touching write-up of how a dad feels while accompanying his daughter Beth to school on her first day. He opens his heart to share his dreams, apprehensions and hope on a letter to the teacher. He says, “Teacher, books are synonymous with good times for my daughter Beth. Please don’t change this by making learning of it a burdensome chore.”
A lovely one page anecdote tells us What It Means to Be Adopted (Section - On Parenting ). It means that ‘You grew in your mother’s heart instead of her tummy!’
2 sections- On death and Dying and on Love seemed very similar to me since both sections had stories mostly on death. I did not totally relish these sections since they carried a tingle of sadness, but that won’t stop me from awarding the book 5 stars.
My Opinion: As if in answer to the nagging doubts of my mind, the book taught me, “ While the difficult takes long, the impossible just takes a little longer .” Some of the stories really changed my outlook for certain circumstances. I got inspired from these stories and have added some spice within the 24 hours of the day.
I also read out a couple of stories to my family members, who I felt, would relate to the situation described. Believe me, it works!
The book is a garden with flowers for each season. You can turn to these blossoms during nail-biting situations, monotonous and dull moments, during selfish runaways and during feel-good days! Happy reading!
Usually when you get into the third of anything, things start to wane a little bit. And that's true with this book. Although you don't have to read the Chicken Soup books in any particular order, this is considered the third book.
Chicken Soup for the Soul books are filled with stories that are meant to inspire and bring a tear or a smile to your day, depending on the section you are in. There are stories about coping with death, overcoming obstacles and a myriad of other themes that follow the same line of thinking. Some, like "Appointment with Love" are about relationships made over long distances and to never lose sight that it's what's on the inside that counts and not the outside. Others, like "The Flower In Her Hair" teach you not to judge someone without knowing the whole story.
Since these are short stories you aren't in with characters/people for the long haul. But there is a relatively diverse group of people that these stories are written about. Children, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, you get the picture. And I can't say that any of them really had a story that resonated with me. There were none that I related to and thought, wow, their life is like mine. Sure they were all nice people (you wouldn't make it into one of these books if you weren't), but there was just something lackluster about this group.
Or maybe it was just the stories themselves that were lackluster. I'm used to them being nicey-nice. That's part of the appeal of this book. With all the violence and everything else out there this is one of those books where you just read and breathe. But aside from duplicating some of the stories in other editions of Chicken Soup (or rather they probably duplicated this one) there were also problems with the stories themselves in that they just weren't as interesting as the ones in the first book. There were a lot of religion-heavy stories in this one too, and although this is a Christian publication, they usually don't force feed it as much as they do in this one.
Just an average collection of stories. If you're a die-hard fan of the Chicken Soup books you may enjoy it, but at this stage in the game, it may just be better to branch out into the theme books of Chicken Soup.

I think the authors purpose was to show you that not everyday is going to be as easy as some of your other days. I also think the purpose was to get you to understand that there are so many other people out in this world that are going through what you are going through. My thought on what the theme is is the narrator can't get over a problem with her family, she is always going through a tough time with her family or her friends. My thoughts on the style of this book was that it fit in to most of this world because everyone has problems like these. The other style I think it is is thoughtful. I think thoughtful because the narrator was always wanting to help the family in every way possiable. My opinion of this story is that it was one of the best books I have read before. I think this because the stories that have a meaning to our life now are the better books because then you can see what is similar and diffrent about it.
If you haven't read this book yet I recommend this book to you! If you have read it that's great.
I've been a fan of this big project for as long as I can remember. In any Chicken Soup for the Soul book, there are always dozens of stories that are sure to serve as inspiration to anyone. I do believe that everyone needs a little Chicken Soup in their lives.
I saw this book in my friend's shelf and asked if I could borrow it. I then set aside some time for myself to have some Soup for myself. It's amazing what an inspirational book can do to you if you only give it a chance. I took in this book slowly, and didn't rush into anything. The outcome was great. I got touched by many of the stories. I teared up too many times! This is a great version of Chicken Soup for the Soul. It's general and not aimed to any particular audience. It's fit for everyone.
*sigh* Every other week, we receive a toss-away paper that features a "Chicken Soup for the Soul" story. I always read the story. Some resonate more than others. This, however, was the first book I'd read in the series. I was really looking forward to the "A Matter of Attitude" and "A Matter of Perspective" sections only to be disappointed. Except for the Maya Angelou contribution, I was underwhelmed. While the contribution by someone "involved" with the Lifespring organization was interesting, it was the proverbial nail-in-the-coffin for me due to a really, really bad experience I had with that organization. This book was given to me in 2005 after my father died. Maybe it would have meant more had I read it then rather than 8 years later.
I'd not read any of the 'unthemed' Chicken Soup books before, but I found this one to be a nice mix of stories to read while I exercised at the gym. The anecdotes are divided up into chapters by theme, and some themes I liked better than others, but overall a good book. I particularly liked the ones involving young children, their naivity and innocence. I would enjoy reading more of the general Chicken Soup books, but I'll have to see if there are any among the entire library that focus on kids.
