* Excellent for teachers and parents * A story with truth for every generation * In-text notes by Warren Wiersbe
It's a shame it took me almost two months to finish reading this book. I found this book a great blessing. John Bunyan's wit and faith on the Lord led him to come up with a well-crafted book that he doubted would have a positive effect to the people if ever he will publish it. Dr. Warren Wiersbe's footnotes can really help the reader to understand more the story and the bible verses where most of the lines were lifted from. Allegorical stories do not only challenge the readers to think thoroughly, but in this case, the readers were encouraged to think of themselves as Christian and the other characters in the book. I actually watched the movie last year, which encouraged me to read the book. And I made the right choice since most parts of the book (that I deem were very important ones) were not included in the movie. "We are all on the same journey. Are you on the right path?"
Wow, this was a powerful read. I challenge everyone to read this book and not have it affect you in any way. This is a book that each of us can relate to in the present as well as in the future. As each character was introduced I saw my sinful past very clearly. I am so happy that I accepted the call to be a follower of Jesus Christ and am walking the walk as Christian and Hopeful did. Did Christian and Hopeful make it into Heaven? Guess you will have to read the book to find out.
As I strive for the goal of Heaven being my final resting place, I know that my God will be with me every step of the way.
I am not a big fan of the modernized versions, but I gave it a 5 stars for one of the best "modernized versions" of Pilgrim's Progress. It takes out some of the old English while staying close to John Bunyan's original writing AND Warren Wiersbe's notes are also quite helpful, excellent a matter of fact. I still have the original translation of John Bunyan's "Pilgrim Progress" on hand as I love original writings but this book has really helped me understand Pilgrims Progress better.
Can see why it would be a Christian classic. This book is an excellent depiction of a Christians life and trails. While going through the book, I felt like I was walking along with the character Christian through his many encounters with different people; some which are believers, some who are against God, and some who are goats. The book serves as an encouragement and also a reminder in my walk as a believer.
This was quite a refreshing read. I remember reading a bit of this when I was younger. Reading a book with such clearly drawn lines of black and white is really quite a change from the current sets of relative opinions. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but took some time at certain parts of trial that dragged a bit.
Finally got around to reading a full version (not a kids version) of this classic. Will be thinking about this one for a long time: such a great representation of the Christian life!
