After Christian reads a book telling him that the city in which he and his family dwells will be set ablaze, he takes the advice of the Evangelist and undertakes a dangerous pilgrimage to the Heavenly City through castles, giants, dragons, angels and other temptations, driven on only by the hope and promise of eternal joy in heaven.
John Bunyan, a Christian writer and preacher, was born at Harrowden (one mile south-east of Bedford), in the Parish of Elstow, England. He wrote The Pilgrim's Progress, arguably the most famous published Christian allegory. In the Church of England he is remembered with a Lesser Festival on 30 August.
Apart from the prince , this would be one book I wished had read some years back . Some twenty five years . Rating it 10/5 but that option isn't !😀 This book will give you a sweet, peaceful, godly care, feel good and trust and if you deconstruct the same and as well read it with a doubters mind as to how the mindspace of the innocents can be moulded by geniuses of the propagators of religion - you know the path to atheism is more arduous , painful and more challenging 😀 When you have the devout Christian face the uphill task to contend with so many hurdles like the obstinate , the pliable , legality , civility, psychology, mistrust , timorous ,atheist ,Theft ,Doubt et all there comes the Evangelist and the Interpreter, Faithful and others to the rescue . What surprised me that Jesus also had to resort to gifts and showmanship to impress upon the Christian.
Awesome, inspiring and well worth the read. Have never read the original, but this one is terrific. Also available in audio and I listened on a trip from Alberta to Ontario. Sure helped make the time and miles pass.
Pilgrim’s Progress is one of my favorite books of all time, and this modern adaption is easily understood and beautifully written. Pilgrims Progress should be read slowly snd thought about deeply to fully grasp each aspect of the Christian’s journey to Salvation and Eternal Life. I get something new and valuable from it every time I read it. There is little doubt why it is a classic.
There were some minor doctrinal differences, I would say, as well as the modernization of language. I think at this point in my life I’d rather the original, but reading this as a child was probably easier.
