Rosemary Wells is an American writer and illustrator of children's books. She often uses animal characters to address real human issues. Some of her most well-known characters are Max & Ruby and Timothy from Timothy Goes To School (both were later adapted into Canadian-animated preschool television series, the former’s airing on Nickelodeon (part of the Nick Jr. block) and the latter’s as part of PBS Kids on PBS).

Oh that rascally Max always spoiling Ruby's best laid plans! In this cute take off of Rosemary Wells' adorable brother and sister team, big sister Ruby tries to get her little brother Max to play school with her. While teaching him his colors, ABCs, and how to count, you will find opportunities to teach your toddler or preschooler. My daughters love the cartoon thus finds the beginning reader relatable.

I read this book to my 3 year old son & he loved it! I like that it has pictures in place of some of the words. ("But (picture of Max)did not want to play school. He wanted to play with his race (picture of car)." This helps my son pay closer attention. He likes to say the word for the corresponding picture when we come to them.

Ruby makes her little brother Max play school with her. She tries to teach him colors, numbers, and letters but all he wants is his cars. And in the end he teaches her! The text has learning picutres within the text to help beginning readers. So instead of "Ruby" there is a picture of her. Instead of 'crayon' there is a picture of crayons.
