The Shadow Lord has been banished yet the land of Deltora is not thriving. As the starving people weaken, Lief, Barda and Jasmine discover a terrible secret, that the Shadow Lord has left behind the seeds of death itself, destined to ruin Deltora. They are called the four sisters, one in each corner of the land, and the three set out to destroy the vile creations. The stunning conclusion series to the Deltora Quest story.
Emily Rodda (real name Jennifer Rowe) was born in Sydney, Australia and graduated from the University of Sydney in 1973 with an MA (Hons) in English Literature. Moving into a publishing career, first as a book editor, and finally as a publisher at Angus & Robertson, Rodda's first book was published in 1984.
The last book is 100% climax. It's exhausting and emotional, and I cried, but I loved every moment of it and the ending is so many levels of perfect. I just love these books and will continue to love them forever.
I just love these series about leaf, barda and jasmine. I LOVE this book. I cant think of anything thats wrong with it. I think anyone who wants a beautiful fantasy story, or even an epic tale, they should read deltora. Im kinda surprised these series havent gained that much popularity, comparing to other fantasies like harry potter, lord of the rings, etc. i was a huge harry potter fan when i was a teenager, and i knew every dialogue in the series. But i think deltora is much better, much more sophisticated and organized. After watching "the book job" in the simpsons, of course i dont really believe any of these books have been written by just 1 author. But either way i think its gorgeous :)))
This was another amazing adventure series that took place within the lands of Deltora. As always, I loved the characters, the world, the complex plot, and the puzzles that were scattered throughout.
Individual ratings: Dragon's Nest - 5/5 Shadowgate - 5/5 Isle of the Dead - 5/5 Sister of the South - 5/5
Overall rating: 5/5 This was a fantastic conclusion to the story that began with the very first Deltora Quest series. The Deltora Quest books are some extremely well written middle grade series and are among my favourite fantasy series ever. Everyone should read these.
I really can’t recommend all of Deltora Quest enough, but this final series was a perfect ending. So clever, and I even cried at the end. The series as a whole is quite a lot (15 books!) but every book is unique and short and adorable and I really think I might reread it from time to time. Thank you, Deltora Quest.

Dragons of Deltora follows closely to the structure of its predecessors. We're left off with the shadow lord being banished, from the realm of Deltora, however, there are many plans still undiscovered, which may lead to Deltora's downfall. Lief ultimately faces the burden of the empire in ensuring a prosperous future.
Lief, Barda, and Jasmine are once again facing the same drilling task of ridding the shadow lords everlasting presence within Deltora. Like previous adventures, only old friends can be trusted, and precious secrets are kept. New twists and turns occur throughout their journey leaving the reader on edge. We are seamlessly immersed within the world of Deltora, and it felt like I was with the companions.
Overall, I quite enjoyed the last book of the series even if the demographic doesn't quite fit. The series was quite close to my heart as stated within my review of Deltora Quest 1. The evolution of Lief, Barda, and Jasmine throughout the series was quite the thrill. We'd come to enjoy the aspects of them which made them. Even friends meet along the way had deep backstories behind them which made them quite interesting. The history behind the Deltora Annals and the creator behind them Doran or more famously known by Dragonfriend was tremendous. I quite enjoyed the connection made between the Dragons and the Belt of Deltora as it gave a new life within Deltora. The ending was as most expected and one that can't be faulted. However, the twists and turns that occurred left me on edge throughout not knowing which direction I was being taken in.
Where can I begin? This book was no doubt, flawlessly made, till the climax. Especially The Sister of South (my personal favourite), which was as epic as it was emotional.
Rodda is a genius, I remember reading The Forests of Silence in primary school and the books have always been my favourite since I began reading novels. And it's heartbreaking seeing the trio Leif, Jasmine and Barda, for the last time...
Let's see what Star of Deltora will bring to us shall we?
Finally came to the last quest in the series. It's been quite a journey, starting from the first quest until the last one. And I enjoyed every bits, every last pages that I read. This might be my favourite quest after the first quest.
This final and last quest for our favourite trio and also Deltora, start of few months after the last quest, where they successfully rescued the prisoners from the Shadowlands. Although they managed to outwit their enemies, evil is still lurking all over Deltora. With plants and crops began to fail, Deltora is facing the crisis of hunger and lack of food supplies. The Shadowlord had planted a curse, a curse called The Four Sisters all over Deltora that will cause them despair. Once again, Lief, Barda, and Jasmine, with some help from old friends and new friemds, embark on a journey to undo this curse and free the land of Deltora from the clutches of the Shadowlord once and for all.
One of my favourite elements in this book is dragons! I've always love dragons in fantasy. And these dragons are not just dragons, but dragons that represent every gems in the belt of Deltora! How cool is that! I can imagine their wings, their eyes and body the colour of pretty pretty gems. Not to mention how cute they are! Love their connection and every interactions they have with Lief and his companions.
I love the tension in this book. Out of all the three quests, this one is the most nervewrecking and a bit more to the dark side. We can see how Lief almost fall into despair, resenting his fate and the nelt of Deltora, which he never did before this. We know how Lief adore the belt of Deltora in the first quest, the same for the second quest, so for him to finally snapped, feeling hopeless, resenting and venting his anger and frustrations, it is a big deal.
Of course as this is a children's book, it must have that happy ending and the hero succeeding in saving his land. I'm glad it has a clear happy ending, with the Shadowlord finally banished from the lnad of Deltora.
It has been a long yet wonderful journey. Although I wish to see the end of the story, part of me also wish that it will continue for a long time. I've grown attached to the characters especially Lief, Barda, and Jasmine. Seeing their relationship change and evolve from the first quest until the last, they've really come far from they began. It is quite sad, that I've finally come to the end. Honestly, I can never be the same anymore. This book has left such an impact on me. Great plot, great worldbuilding, great characters, puzzles, and crises. Everything about this series is perfect. There are no loopholes or things that left readers to question this and that. I'm glad I've decided to pick this series up. It has been indeed a wonderful journey.
Deltora Quest 3 is a continuation of the plot points of the previous books to come to a satisfying conclusion. In short if you enjoyed the previous books, you will enjoy the conclusion of the series with this book.
You can really think of Deltora Quest as a trilogy of books written for children. The first sets up the plot and adventure. The second expands on it and is not really satisfying as the first and the final wraps everything up in a satisfying conclusion. Almost picking up after the end of the second series, all of the plot points that were left in the second series are all concluded in this book.
The best thing I can say is that the world is so well built. I keep saying it in the previous reviews but this book has some of the most in depth world building as the previous books. From all the old stories, to the dragons, to giving the shadow lord a lot of character. The world of Deltora is so well realized and built up and a joy to be in. Especially showing the Shadowlord is an incredibly smart individual. As a villain he is just your definition of an evil being but he is a smart evil being. He has plans within plans. He has back up plans and plan As and plan Bs. Everything in this book is so fantastic showing that he really wants to take the lands of Deltora but if it wasn't for Lief and gang he would be successful.
All in all if you like the previous books you will like the conclusion to the series. Get your kids to read it! This is a fantastic entry into fantasy for children.
Another amazing Deltora Quest series that makes my heart ache with how much I love it. And the addition of dragons makes it even better. I enjoy this just as much the original Deltora series - see my review here to find out why.
On my next re-read I'll likely do a more in-depth review of each individual book.
Nessa série aqui eu senti que a autora engrenou muito mais do que na anterior!!
Mais uma vez envolve o Senhor das Sombras espalhando X coisas pelo país e os protagonistas tendo que ir lá resolver.
Novamente, as revelações do final me pegaram de surpresa.
SPOILER WARNING. By far my favorite Deltora quest series. This series nails why i love Emily Rodda and the Roddaverse so much! Fun adventures to save Deltora is the outer layer of these fun and exiting books. Lief faces guilt for his wish of freedom through the death of his guards, the impact of basically the plague and the divide between cities from a long history, further affected by this illnesses of the grand finale. The cruel and miraculously clever plan by the "Shadow lord" to control many loved ones helps us to discover the ins and outs of our characters. A clever plot twist at the end leaves our protagonist feeling hopeless, until the bonds he has formed over the books helps him to carry forward. All in all a fantastic book series
utterly fantastic. read this many times as a child who loved dragons and it still holds up. the notes, puzzles and word games were so fun and a bit of a brain teaser, i loved the illistrations that broke up the book. i adore the dragons and the story. every small detail was interesting, every reveal had a good build-up and satisfying end. this series is the very best a children’s book has to offer, far better than many ‘adult books’. i think i will come back to this series again and again over the years!
When Lief has half his face ripped off.......when Jasmine thinks they're dead for ten days......when Barda takes a twenty foot dive......when Lief keeps thinking he's about to die but does the thing anyways..............when Barda goes for the group hug......when Jasmine suspects Doom of treachery................god this got me. WILL THESE FOOLS STOP TRYING TO DIE FOR EACH OTHER.
So well written! A little dark in parts, especially for kids. I would only read it to maybe 10+ depending on the kid? I loved it. It ended the whole series so perfectly. Fantastic plot with why the dragons are important. The ending was nail-biting, although the plague part got a tad annoying. So, so good ❤️
Dragons and Deltora! What more could you want? Oh right, Shadowlands twists and schemes! Maybe book 2 had twists and I just don't remember, but this book's ending stuck with me throughout the years as did the first book. I even have the individual books because I like to just take them out and look at the art. The Dragon symbols on the side of the book are my favourite of all 3 series.
Definitely an improvement from the second series, but still struggles to live up to the first. Starts and ends really well, but sags so much in the middle. Once again, spends more time describing battle and chase scenes than developing characters, which is a shame! But also these are for children so what the hell am I even doing here.
