This was a great read! I really liked the basis of this book. Great imagination and creativity. Interesting characters with great personalities, suspense, action, exasperation and aggravation, humor, and really good ending. Another series for my 'to read' shelf! This would be great to read anytime, however, be prepared to get caught up and lose some time without realizing it. ;) Enjoy!

I thought this was an ok romance between an immortal demon hunter (Guardian) and a human. It was probably a 3.5 for me.

Harlequin-ku yang pertama adalah seri Nocturne: Eternally karangan Maureen Child. Novel yang ku baca adalah terbitan Gramedia Pustaka Utama. Covernya bergambar bangunan tua, sebuah rumah, dengan warna dasar ungu.
Adalah Julie Carpenter yang baru saja bercerai dari suaminya dan menjalani kehidupan barunya. Pada suatu malam dia bertemu dengan Kieran MacIntyre. Mereka bertemu di suatu pesta di rumah Julie. Yang perlu kita ketahui, Kieran ternyata adalah seorang Penjaga a.k.a Pemburu Iblis yang sudah hidup selama 500 tahun lebih. Kieran dianugerahi kehidupan abadi, kekayaan yang amat banyak, serta tentunya wajah dan tubuh tampan nan atletis sebagai ganti untuk kesediaannya menjadi Pemburu Iblis. Satu kesamaan antara Julie dan Kieran adalah mereka sama-sama pernah dikhianati oleh pasangannya masing-masing. Julie dikhianati oleh suami dan sahabatnya sendiri. Sementara Kieran dikhianati oleh istrinya sebelum dia menjadi Penjaga.
Ada sebuah hukum yang mengikat Kieran dan Julie. Hukum tersebut mengenai Pasangan Takdir. Seorang Penjaga akan menjadi lebih kuat saat dia telah menemukan dan intim dengan Pasangan Takdirnya. Petunjuk mengenai Pasangan Takdirnya hanya si Penjaga sendiri yang mampu merasakan dan menentukan. Ahh, hukum yang err ya mungkin hanya ada di Harlequin kali ya, haha. Jujur aku sedikit -roll my eyes- saat membaca hukum ini. :D
Konflik di novel ini tidak lain adalah tentang si Iblis sebagai antagonis penyebar masalah. Si Iblis yang entah apa namanya, sangat doyan membunuhi manusia berkelamin perempuan. Iblis psycho ini sepertinya, haha. Sebenarnya Iblis ini sudah pernah dikirim Kieran ke Neraka. Namun pada kenyataannya, si Iblis berhasil lolos dari Neraka, tanpa tahu bagaimana. Dan seperti yang bisa diduga -jika sejauh ini ada pembaca yang menduga alur cerita- si Iblis ini mengejar Julie. Dia berniat membunuh Julie karena dia adalah Pasangan Takdir si Penjaga Kieran.
Oke lah, sekilas memang terkesan cukup tipikal dan klise banget. Namun ada hal menarik saat si Penulis mengaitkan Iblis ini dengan Jack the Ripper, penjahat terkenal dari Whitechapel, Inggris, yang puluhan tahun lalu hobi menggorok leher para perempuan korban kesadisannya. Iblis inilah yang merasuki beberapa manusia dan melakukan pembunuhan di Whitechapel tersebut. Itulah mengapa setiap saksi mata yang melihat selalu mempunyai gambaran berbeda mengenai pelaku atau si Jack the Ripper tersebut. Ada yang menggambarkannya sebagai pemuda jangkung, ada pula yang mengatakan melihatnya sebagai pemuda pendek. (hal:99)
Buku Harlequin setebal 272 halaman ini berhasil aku tamatkan dalam waktu sehari. Setidaknya rasa penasaranku sedikit terjawab. Bahwa Harlequin itu sepertinya adalah novel dewasa yang dilengkapi dengan adegan menjurus ke intim serta kisah cinta yang err bisa dikatakan berlebihan. Terlalu fiksi untuk terjadi di dunia nyata. Ini pendapat ku lho ya. Namun biar fair, aku sebaiknya membaca beberapa Harlequin lagi. Boleh jadi bisa kutemukan varian lainnya yang lebih menarik.
Sedikit catatan, aku menemukan beberapa typo dan pemenggalan kata yang tidak pada tempatnya. Bisa dilihat pada halaman 56, 131, dan 144. Memang kisah percintaan di Harlequin satu ini cukup berlebihan plus alur yang menurutku lambat. Belum lagi Kieran yang begitu keren dan kuat hanya memiliki porsi sedikit dalam adegan pertarungannya. Awalnya aku berharap ada pertarungan yang digambarkan dengan sengit, karena image Kieran yang begitu keren, yang kubayangkan seperti Cloud tanpa rambut spike, hehe. Akan tetapi malah adegan tebar pesona ehh kekaguman maksudnya yang banyak ditampilkan. Haha, mungkin aku juga sih yang salah novel yaa. Mencari yang seperti itu di novel beraliran Harlequin. Namun aku masih penasaran dan masih ingin berkenalan lebih jauh dengan Harlequin. :)
Yup, intinya ini novel yang ringan, dan lumayan mengasyikan. Cocok dibaca sebagai selingan. Karena ku rasa, membaca buku atau novel yang serius apalagi tebal terus menerus bisa bikin otak penat.

This is the first paranormal book by Maureen Child that I have read. I enjoyed it enough that I have got hold of the others in this series! This is the first book in Ms. Child's "Guardians" series.

The book was a paranormal romance featuring journalist Julie Carpenter and Guardian Kieran MacIntyre. Kieran died in the 1500's and was reborn as a Guardian, tasked with protecting this realm from the denizens of other dimensions, including the demon he is tracking. When he and Julie meet, there is an instant attraction between them, although both try to resist it. Kieran discovers that Julie is his Destined Mate, and that joining with her will strengthen him in his quest to hunt the demon.
From Julie's perspective, Kieran is dashing and dangerous, but she suspects he may be unhinged when he tells her about the demon. Yet, she cannot stay away from him. I wonder if it would have been easier if he'd been bald and paunchy? Yes, that sound you heard are my eyes rolling.
- When Kieran tells Julie the only place she'll be safe is at his fortress-like home in the Hollywood hills, she agrees to let him take her there. Even though she believes he's crazy and dangerous. Because he's handsome. And a gazillionaire. "Gazillionaire" is the exact word the author used. Repeatedly.
- Kieran knows Julie is a distraction he can ill afford, but he can't keep away from her, nor keep his lips or his mitts off of her.
- Once Julie inevitably succumbs to Kieran's charms and lets him ravish her on a public beach (within a private bubble, of course!), she begins to believe his wild tales of Guardians and demons. Then, she starts to think Kieran simply used her to increase his strength. So she steals his car and makes a run for it.
- Kieran tracks her down, yells and threatens, and Julie agrees to go back with him. Can you say, 'Stockholm Syndrome'?
- While "in the act", the demon manages to take over Kieran's mind, which basically meant Julie was having sex with it. Ew ew ew ew. Ew.
- If the demon could take over Kieran's mind, why can't he do something similar to it?
- The big climax (or one of them, anyway) came when Julie heard Kieran calling out to her mentally, telling her the demon was near and she needed to run from the safety of the building where she was and meet him on the beach. And, she fell for it. How stupid can one woman be?!
When I was young and naive, I would have found this swoon-worthy. Now that I'm older and wiser, it made me want to gag. The story's premise was interesting, the author's writing was very good, and the sex scenes were hot, but the worn-out trope of "I simply cannot resist this handsome hunk o' manhood, even though I know he's dangerous" has grown so tedious that I can't even.
Giving it three stars. It wasn't bad; I just didn't like it.

The premise was good (although according to some of the other reviews here it's been ripped off from another series, and I'm probably more inclined to read that), but it seemed poorly written. There was no character development, and there was just a constant back and forth of lust getting in the way of the main characters' rationale for not giving into their lust in the first place. It was interesting enough that I ended up skimming the book to know the ending, but the book overall didn't hook me, and I probably won't continue reading the rest of the series.

Meh! Not crazy about the plot in this one. Yes, this is fiction I get it but the actions of the main characters were just not plausible at time. Their line of thoughts was off. Not for me.

buku ini bercerita ttg julie carpenter dan kieran mc siapa gitu yang merupakan salah satu penjaga abadi....
kieran mengejar iblis yang super jahat dan sadis yang membunuhi para wanita demi mendapat kekuatan.....
dan julie diburu iblis itu karena si iblis tau kalo julie adalah pasangan takdir kieran...so kalo dia berhasil bunuh julie, kieran akan hidup menderita selama nya secara dia itu immortal ....
menurut gw....buku ini awal2 nya sangat membosankan.....kieran udah punya feeling kalo julie itu satu2 nya pasangan takdir nya...tapi tetep aja menghindar terus sampe pembaca cape....
julie juga tipe ce yang independen, dia gak mau ada di bawah kekuatan laki2 secara dia janda dan ditinggal lakinya selingkuh sama sahabatnya sendiri...julie gak percaya laki2 lagi....
again....walau mereka saling meolak tapi mereka terikat oleh benang tak kasat mata yang mau gak mau menempatkan julie dalam perlindungan kieran di kastil....
yang cape nya...baru mendekati halaman 200 ada adegan romantis nya (cape nungguin)
dan emang lumayan juga sih uhuk2 nya secara mereka do it nya di tempat public di kelilingi oleh lapisan cahaya dimana org gak bisa liat mereka..tapi tetep aja, kita tau mereka melakukannya di pinggir pantai tempat org berseliweran dan itu bikin julie turn on hahahaha....
bagaimana ttg si iblis ? gw bilang iblis ini bego banget...why ? dia mau bunuh julie tanpa tau kalo darah seorang manusia tak berdosa bisa membunuh dia.....so pas si iblis nusuk julie pake pedangnya dan darahnya kena si iblis...iblisnya kesakitan dan akhirnya mati.....bego amat ya :p
julie yang mati di pelukan kieran dan kieran yang meraung2 manggil si michael (malaikat yang jadiin kieran guardian) akhirnya datang dan menawarkan kesepatan buat juli dan kieran...
1. kieran melepas gelar immortal nya dan jadi manusia biasa seperti juli
2. juli melepas gelar manusia nya dan jadi immortal bersama kieran....
pilihan yang gampang kan ? :D
apalagi si kieran ini udah ganteng, cakep, kaya raya, tycoon abad dan setia ( ratusan tahun dia gak berhubungan sama wanita sejak dia dulu di bunuh sama selingkuhan istri nya...ribuan tahun yang lalu.....kok bisa ya ? :p)
akhirnya juli pun memilih jadi immortal......
begitulah ceritanya....kira2 bagian belakangnya aja yang rame...bagian depan sampe pertengahan sukses bikin gw ketiduran 3 kali hehehehe....

"Eternally" is the first book (it feel like it) in a series about immortal Guardians, which are led by a guy named Michael.
The first review I saw about this book stated that it's a lot like Dark Hunters series. At first I didn't see why someone made such a statement. But in the second part I felt that it was justified. And it's not to say that it's bad - I do love Dark Hunters Universe. But this world building felt smaller and a bit less interesting. Maybe it's just for now.
The book started quite quickly. Julie (a reporter) is renting a house with two other girls. The are having a party during which she meets a reclusive billionaire with whome she was supposed to do an interview but who declined the offer. He tells her to hide and even though they both feel like it's a very bad idea they kiss. Next morning one of the girls is dead, the other is in intensive care and Julie is afraid for her life.

So talking about likeness with DH. There are good immortal guys who protect humans from demons (not daemons). And they are led by Michael (not Ash or Artemis). They don't usually work together and each one has to get rid of an assigned demon on his/her own. But they can be out in daylight!
The first review I saw about this book stated that it's a lot like Dark Hunters series. At first I didn't see why someone made such a statement. But in the second part I felt that it was justified. And it's not to say that it's bad - I do love Dark Hunters Universe. But this world building felt smaller and a bit less interesting. Maybe it's just for now.

The are having a party during which she meets a reclusive billionaire with whome she was supposed to do an interview but who declined the offer. He tells her to hide and even though they both feel like it's a very bad idea they kiss. Next morning one of the girls is dead, the other is in intensive care and Julie is afraid for her life.

This book is a loaner from my mother-in-law, thankfully. If I'd bought it, I'd be torqued. It's a complete rip-off of the Dark-hunter series by Sherilynn Kenyon. Even the name of the hero is ripped from the Dark-hunter books. Kieran seems awfully similar to Kyrian of Thrace, to me. Then you have the back-story - immortal guy fighting demons. I was absolutely disgusted when I got to the part where the author explained that the "Guardians" are served by mortals who know about them and are sworn to secrecy, and that this is often passed down through families. Thankfully, she didn't go so far as to call them Squires.
Anyway, I'll quit ranting. If the premise of this book interests you, go to the original and check out Sherilynn Kenyon and her Dark-hunters. I'd take a pass on this.

Novel pertama dari serial Pasangan Takdir... tapi, entah kenapa saya malah lebih suka -jauh lebih suka- cerita tentang Santos dan Erin (seri kedua Pasangan Takdir). Kenapa? jelas lebih menarik cerita si Santos lah.
Anyway anyhow, back to this novel... Buat saya, alur cerita di novel ini lambat sekali. Amat sangat lambat. Saya sampe boring bacanya. Akhir ceritanya juga gak terlalu menegangkan. Yah, gimana ya? Gak ada gregetnya sama sekali...
Tapi, tetep suka sama serial Nocturne...

I love this! The fantasy aspect! The destined feel of the two people in this story! These two were just perfect for each other. Something I would not mind reading again and again!

Eternally was a very different book than I've ever read written by Maureen Child. It is a good book none the less and worth taking the time to read.

Kieran dan Julie memang ditakdirkan sebagai pasangan. Mereka berdua dipertemukan dalam kekacauan akibat pesta di rumah Julie dengan kematian teman sekamar Julie, Alicia, di pagi hari.
Dimulailah pertualangan Kieran dan Julie untuk menjadi pasangan. Perdebatan tiada akhir dan juga keras kepalanya Julie menambah runyam keadaan.
Ya...bisa dipastikan kalau buku ini meriah dengan pertengkaran dan juga perburuan dengan iblis yang memburu jiwa-jiwa perempuan tak berdosa dan menghindarkan kematian yang sia-sia.
Hanya dengan pengorbanan dari darah orang yang tak berdosa yang akan membawa musnahnya sang iblis untuk selamanya.
Buku yang enak di baca, alur sederhana dan yang pastinya berakhir bahagia.
Setelah cari di Ijak gak ada, akhirnya, unduh aplikasi Ipusnas buat cari pilihan buku yang lebih banyak dan tidak ada antrian hahaha
