With simple, captivating text and Renée Graef's breath-taking artwork created in the style of Garth Williams, Little House Chapter Books are the perfect way to introduce beginning chapter book readers to the exciting world of Little House.
Ingalls wrote a series of historical fiction books for children based on her childhood growing up in a pioneer family. She also wrote a regular newspaper column and kept a diary as an adult moving from South Dakota to Missouri, the latter of which has been published as a book.
They found a bear in their cow place. They ran inside and the bear just left. They also found cattle and their dad was going to go round it up. Also, they sent their dad to go to town and when he was walking home he saw a bear. He waved his arms around to scare it out of the way but it didn't work so he got a big branch that looks like a club and he hit it and the bear just stared at him still. Then he figured out it was a stump.
My Review: I am loving these chapter book editions of the Little House on the Prairie series. It is a lot easier for young readers to both read on their own and to follow. This book in particular contained some of my favorite parts of the series, from the bear encounter in Little House in the Big Woods to the badger in On the Banks of Plum Creek. It was a lot of fun reading this book with Munchkin and he enjoyed all the animals.
We are really enjoying this series as an entry point to the original longer books. My three year old particularly enjoyed these stories centered on animals that the Ingalls family encounters.
"Gentle" adaptations my patootie. The panther ripped open the horse's back, and was shot dead. I stopped reading after that story. Read the novels together with your children; don't bother with this silliness. (LFL find/August 2021)
Little house books are a favorite in our house. These are basically just short chunks from the bigger novels. My 6 year old really enjoyed these quick stories about Laura’s Animal Encounters.
The Little House Chapter Books are adaptations of the Little House series of books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, and they are adaptations that are done well. They are meant to be read by children who are beginning to read chapter books, and are both interesting and educational.
