Louis, who loves birds, learns that the last living dodo is trapped by a circus and forced to perform dangerous tricks, so he sets out to save the bird and return it to its home, earning an exciting reward from the rest of his feathered friends.
This picture book is very long and would probably have to be read to students over the course of a few ideas so they are able to remember all of the main ideas of the story. It is definitely too long to read in one sitting. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and bring life to the story. This book would bee a good retellings project for students as we'll as good for inferencing and questioning. It's a great story to teach students about friendship, love, loyalty, and bravery.
This book was kind of strange, and some of the pictures were a little creepy. I liked the idea at the end, though, that Louis could get back to visit his friends any time he wants by a secret door in his room.
