This book was sooo good! I love Gilbert Morris. The story line kept me engaged throughout the entire book. I have started the last book in the Singing River Series, The Courtship. I am sure it will be just as good as the other three.

Didn’t realize this was the 3rd in a series. That might have cleared some things up! Frustrates me to no end when the number in a series isn’t on the book cover anywhere, and this is why. Enjoyable story but to me some of the dialogue was not terribly realistic (although just as much of it was great!), and some of the romance was a bit cheesy. Scoured other reviews on this author and have come to the conclusion that I would have loved this as a teen, but after reading just about everything by the Thoenes, I’m spoiled rotten with superior historical fiction writing. Part of me wants to start this series at the beginning because, even with “not the best” writing, I hate only finishing part of a story, but I don’t think I want it bad enough. Time will tell. This book has the first chapter of the fourth book in the back as a teaser, and in it there is a character who is described as having been serving the family ever since the mother died, but she wasn’t even mentioned and never made an appearance in this book. Would reading the first two clear that up?

Better & better

In the third book of the Singing River series, Gilbert Morris continues the saga of the Freeman family and the populace of the small town of Fairhope AR. Scandal raises its ugly head, but at the same time, God is busy working a miracle....several of them, in fact. Another 5 star rating. About to start the fourth and last book of the series, and I have that feeling of dread in that I do not want to leave this little family.

I enjoyed reading this book but not so much as I originally thought I was going to. I did however love every single poem Lanie wrote. I was surprised with the relationship with Owen and Roger- Im just so biased and I can't see how Owen is even an option for Lanie. I personally don't like his personality but I might change my mind if I read the previous books. I started the series here. I realize I was reading the third book until I was halfway through the book. Oh and my fav character is Lanie's father! Love his way of looking at things; always optimistic no matter the situation, his faith is in God.

I enjoyed book #3 much more then book #2. This book was not as slow and had more of the story unfold then in book #2. Once again I enjoyed listening to the audiobook version. I loved hearing the victories of Lanie Freeman and her siblings. I couldn't stop listening! I immediately started listening to book #4 and the last in the series.

Reading this while on holiday in Hungary. Like the story a lot, I think it‘s getting better and better. There is a bit of a Walton’s Mountain feel about it, have I mentioned that before? Depression times, families working hard to overcome adversity, and, of course, love - and faith. And so on to volume 4!
