A quick paced thriller with relevance to modern day society which one can relate with. The author has written quite well and is easy to read. The only drawback is the repetition of the training aspect in multiple places with words being repeated. This small aspect aside, I thoroughly enjoyed a good thriller by an Indian author.

Ever wondered what it feels like to step into a war zone with the weight of an entire nation's fate on your shoulders? That's exactly what Rehana Rasool faces in Neelabh Pratap Singh's First Rodeo. This isn't just another action thriller—it's a pulse-pounding dive into the heart of Kashmir, where danger lurks at every turn, and a young, untested para commando must prove herself against insurmountable odds.

The story revolves around Rehana Rasool, a freshly minted para commando who finds herself thrown into the deep end when she's tasked with rescuing a high-profile political leader in Kashmir. With no prior combat experience, Rehana's mission is as much about survival as it is about success. As she ventures deeper into enemy territory, she uncovers a labyrinth of deceit and betrayal that challenges her resolve and her very identity. This isn’t just about one mission—it’s about proving her worth to herself and her country.
Neelabh Pratap Singh has built a reputation for crafting high-octane thrillers that keep readers on the edge of their seats. Known for his meticulous attention to detail and his ability to weave complex narratives, Singh has once again delivered with the Scorpion Ops Series, an offshoot of the popular JV Solanki series. His experience in writing military thrillers shines through in this latest offering, where the authenticity of the setting and the intensity of the action make for a gripping read.

What makes "First Rodeo" stand out is its unflinching portrayal of a woman in combat. Rehana Rasool is not your typical action hero—she’s vulnerable, determined, and deeply relatable. The way Singh brings Kashmir to life, with its stark beauty and underlying tensions, adds a layer of realism that makes the stakes feel incredibly high.

Rehana’s journey is one of self-discovery, courage, and perseverance. Her character resonates with anyone who’s ever faced a challenge that seemed too big to overcome. Themes of patriotism, sacrifice, and the quest for identity are woven throughout the narrative, making it not just an action-packed thriller but a story with heart.

One of the most poignant moments in the book is when Rehana reflects on her brother’s death in service to the nation. This scene, filled with raw emotion, captures the weight of her mission and the personal stakes involved. It’s a powerful reminder of the human cost of war and the sacrifices made by those who serve.

The book's fast pace and tight narrative are its biggest strengths. However, some readers might find the detailed explanations of military terms and operations a bit tedious, slowing down the otherwise rapid-fire read.

"First Rodeo" is more than just a thriller—it's a story about finding strength in the face of adversity. A memorable scene for me was when Rehana, against all odds, pushes forward despite her fears, embodying the spirit of resilience. It’s a book that stays with you, long after the last page is turned.

A Determined Woman Fighting Against All Odds!

Ms. Rehana Rasool after completing her Paracommando training is summoned to meet Ms. Jaspreet “Jas” Kaur- an accomplished officer in the Intelligence Bureau (IB). Rehana is assigned a secret mission of rescuing the kidnapped Ms. Sayeeda Firdous who is a well-respected political leader of Kashmir, a member of parliament for over two decades and the chief ministerial candidate for next state elections.
Will Rehana be able to rescue Ms. Sayeeda Firdous? Read the novel to find out.
The style of writing a thriller requires a lot of skill-set as the reader needs to be kept on tenterhooks.
Mr. Neelabh has succeeded partially in doing so.
Readers looking for a quick read thriller novel, then go for it.

An engaging read which feels like watching an action-packed thriller movie.

My rating: 4.3/5
Rehana Rasool is a proud Indian and unlike most of her natives, does not consider her home turf, Kashmir, to be a separate entity from the nation. Her father's patriotic values and her brother's death while serving the Indian army, propel her towards training as a para commando. Her first mission involves finding and rescuing one of Kashmir's oldest political leaders, Sayeeda Firdous, who was kidnapped and has been missing for over four days. Fresh out of her training and without any actual combat experience, will Rehana be successful in rescuing Sayeeda?

Fast paced and thrilling

Fast paced...story was told in a different way. Not sure, if the article 370 angle needed to be mentioned, but overall a good read.
