Safety is more than just elusive…

It doesn’t exist.

Pip Tyler is safe at her family’s ranch, tending her horses, helping raise her younger brothers—and healing from an attack from when she’d been a teenager.

Her self-imposed isolation ends when her older sister marries the sheriff of Masterson County. Now she has to make room in her life for her brother-in-law—and his three brothers.

Bigger, stronger, larger-than-life, the Masterson brothers have her quaking in her boots every time they get near. Pip doesn’t know how much longer she can hide.

He sees more than she knows…

Dr. Matt Masterson spends his days building the only veterinary practice in Masterson County—and his nights wondering how to break through Pip’s fears. How to get close to the woman he can’t forget.

He’s not the only one who wants her…

Matt isn’t the only one who wants Pip Tyler. Someone from her past will stop at nothing to have the woman he’s always wanted…as his future.

The only thing standing in his way is the one man Pip knows she can trust…

Who is Calle Jaye Brookes?

Calle Jaye is fun, playful, ironic, professional and sophisticated. She’s super-educated in the field of fiction and would spend most of her time walking around in “Book World” (or”eBook World”).

Does she have slight control freak tendencies? Yep. Why else would she chose to self-publish?

In her day job she gets to read romance novels. In her night job she gets to write them!

Her favorite color is bold purple. She likes rock like Kid Rock, Shinedown, and Nickelback. Add in a bit of Anastacia and Adelle, too.

She collects rocks. Watches crime dramas. Abhors Lifetime Movies and Titanic (especially Leo…) and refuses to read or write about sparkly teen vampires.

She’s married to a cop she strongly suspects is a vampire. They’ve made vampire babies, too.

They live in Indiana with their vampire relatives and their vampire dogs.

This is book 2 by Calle J. Brookes in the Masterson County series. These are shorter novella length romantic suspense books with a small town vibe.

DNF @ 30%

After having mixed feelings about book 1, Seeking the Sheriff I tried again. However, it’s obvious this author just isn’t for me. While the narrator was better this time around – the writing didn’t improve. Still underdeveloped, repetitive, unnatural conversations, and focusing too much on setting up future books in ways that don’t further the plot of this book.

It’s also practically the same book. Clueless girl is completely surprised that the guy who’s been constantly by her side, holding her hand, calling her honey, & kissing her is interested in her.

And does every book involve overly smarmy men and constant threat of sexual assault?

Narration:
Timothy G. Little was new to me. Overall the book didn’t work for me, but I’d be willing to try his work again. Probably in a different genre.

This series is apparently obsessed with rape. To the point you get the POV of the rapist. Book one included the possibility thereof, insinuating the action. This book? More rape and PTSD from such. NOT NECESSARY IN A FREAKING ROMANCE NOVEL.

Oh, poor Pip. She's so nervous of people, especially the arsehole who wants her. She had already been attacked when she was a teenager. The only male she is friendly with is the veterinarian, Matt Masterson. Matt loves her and Pip feels safe with him. There's people getting hurt within a burning barn that someone torched. It was quite an exciting story. I loved the start, middle and ending! Fab story. 5☆

This was an odder read than the previous one. We got another slew of characters introduced to us... with absolutely no development at all. Too many people, too many names ( so similar as well ) to keep track of. What was the point of the film thing? And I don't know anywhere that would be so obliging. There would be contracts formed and agreements made. Not a random director wandering around telling the property owners what to do. Just weird.

Then there was the central theme... what was the point? For an author who appears to avoid swearing and anything sexual... she was more than happy to write about an attempted rape and alluding to further assaults. Just a very strange stance to take.

Still don't feel like I know anyone at all. I am only persisting cos I want to read about Perci and Nate... I think?

Not me having Crescent City 2, my most anticipated book of the year, FINALLY released and on my kindle but then deciding to read this truly random western romance instead. I will never understand my reading compulsions. But honestly enjoyed this one lol! Nothing better than a super random romantic suspense when you’re feeling a reading slump coming on. The drama was fun

I loved these four books. Will definitely be reading more by this author. They were sweet and sassy and rather cliched but there was plenty of action and the writing was excellent and I absolutely loved the characters

Wow, this entire series is a winner. I love how the h's family is so strong and willing to work together to survive and to take care of each other. The line up of the 4 brothers with the 4 sisters could have been over the top cheesy, but the strength of each story was unique and noteworthy. Except for the really bad guys, every one in the story was a strong, very positive person. Each had their own personality and gifts and each added a great dimension to the story.

The storyline has been well described elsewhere. Great series. Highly recommend.

I liked it better than the first one, I guess. The protagonists are likeable. I just find Nate and Perci completely exhausting. The whole “they fight because they’re attracted to each other” trope is just so stupid and unappealing. I also hate spending time in the thoughts of villains. I think I will cut my losses here.

Boring...snoozeville....every feeling discussed. Wimpy women...

Boring, snoozer, so many feelings, discussed, analyzed...awful storyline. Glad I didn't buy the rest of the series. Boring. Weak women

Nope. Far, far too many people to keep track of. I prefer stories that focus on just the couple at most. There's other books to focus on others. And also way too much drama for such a short story. Bouncing all over the place here. Deleted rather quickly.

I'm a fan of Ms. Brookes' stories because I love romantic suspenses and her storylines are always so intruiging. I've read a LOT of books by this author over time, and I see that she has made improvements in editing and proofreading. Still not the best, but much better.

Also, while I'm always intrigued by her villains, I'd just like a good 'ole regular villain for once. LOL! Okay, okay, I enjoy the crazy, looney ones too! But seriously...why must they always be so far removed from reality, sick, perverted, and delusional?! 😳This dude--after being rejected by one sister--sets out to attack another, nearly rapes her, yet he thinks that because he was a little drunk she's supposed to overlook that and be "his?!" And did I read he was planning to make her his wife?! Aye de mi!!

And how is it possible that with everything that has happened to this poor family, so many people, families as a whole hate the poor Tylers?! Aside from the Tyler cousins, and the Masterson brothers, have anyone any morals or basic home training?! If I was a member of the Tyler family, I would seriously think about moving elsewhere.

One thing I did like was Matt's patience and understanding with Pip. He didn't push, but let her lead while also letting her know he was with her and wanted her. He was strong, supportive, and gentle. I loved that he'd call her by her real name--Philippa--because Pip...really?! Pip, Pan, Perci--geez! I think this is the first time I've ever had a problem with names/nicknames in a story that didn't involve misspellings. I also love how close the sisters are and that they'd take on the world for each other. I would have loved just a little more time spent on the actual romance after Pip finally revealed her fears about men to Matt. I wanted to see more of Pip's confidence in her relationship with Matt.

This is Matt and Pip’s story.. but starts with a wedding of Joel and Phoebe..
Pip is recovering from a sexual attack which was stopped by Perci who had known immediately that Pip was in trouble.. something she had always been able to do for her twin.. Pip was always shy and anxious but the attack made her fearful of everyone not family.
The family closed ranks around Pip and she put all her energy into training her horses… until she met Matt when he came to buy her horse.. he is the local vet and he is building up a horse stud..
He is captured by her and he knows she is frightened all the time, so he takes things slow, but the man who attacked her, Jay, is out of prison(on a drug trafficking charge) and he has convinced himself that Pip is his..
She only has eyes for Matt who has wants her in his life permanently…

There is a Hollywood director in town wanting to use the town of Masterson as a movie set, he is employing locals .. he is pursuing Pip to get her in a role, but she is adamant she is not interested.

Jay starts a fire in a barn where Matt and Pip are sharing an intimate moment, he hits Matt with a shovel and drags Pip away, but the film guy is here with his assistant and Jay pretends to be rescuing Pip but they get into a fight when Jay hits the assistant. Pip rushs to help Matt, Perci comes out from the house and they are all fighting in the burning barn ..
Everyone ends up in hospital, Matt has a broken arm and collarbone, Pip has broken ribs and burns, Perci has a broken leg and burns across her back and the bad guy is in custody..

The vet finds his match with the quiet rancher!

Ok so I assume most people will think that these books are set in an earlier period like the 1800s but you would assume wrong! This is set in the 21st century with characters that are ranchers, vets, doctors, nurses and even law enforcement! Like the previous book in this series, I was drawn in from the very first page and didn't put it down until I was finished as the pages and the story just flowed so beautifully!

Pip is one of the Tyler twins and is quiet and shy, but more so after an incident four years ago caused her to not trust men other than those in her family. That is until her oldest sister marries the Sheriff of Masterson County. Matt Masterson is the only vet in this area and is quiet. Ever since he helped his brother, Joel the Sheriff, to save his woman and her sisters he has thought and had feelings for Pip after witnessing her bravery when she went into a raging river to save her sister. He will do anything to make sure he wins her heart:) Unfortunately, someone else thinks she belongs to him.....

Pip is one of the twin sisters in the family. Phoebe had just married, now she will help with the responsibility of their younger brothers. The family has been through literal heck~ Matt Masterson, the vet of his family has been taken with Pip since he rescued her. He has noticed she is very scared of people, especially the Gunderson family members. When he finds out why he will do everything in his power to protect her. Jay Gunderson wants Pip at any cost for himself, and will do anything to prove it…even kidnap her. Perci, her twin, knows when Pip is in trouble and vice versa. Plenty of trouble lies on the horizon for both families once again~ But the two families will reunite once again to provide protection. Also, another man is in town looking to find cast members and ranches for his newest movie and he wants Pip and Perci for it…what lengths will he go to? Another exciting action-packed Tyler and Masterson adventure.

Philippa Marie Tyler - Pip
Matthew Masterson - Matt

Pip is a rancher. She trains and raises horses. Matt is the local Veterinarian. Matt has had an eye for Pip every since he helped rescue her sister Phoebe. Matt receives an abused horse and even though he could have ranch hands help with the horse he gives the horse to Pip to train and heal. Pip is still very anxious around men after being attacked 4 years earlier, although she finds she is relaxed around Matt and actually wants to be near him. You have a movie director who is shooting a movie. The attacker back from prison obsessed with Pip. This is a good, fast, clean read. I liked Pip, she’s strong despite being shy and more anxious since being attacked, and how she wants to escape her feelings of fear. I liked Matt, he’s a strong but gentle character and treats Pip with care and wants her just as she is. I would definitely read more books by this author and in the series.

How could you not love Dr. Matt Masterson. He's gorgeous. He's a veterinarian. He's kind and patient. Matt met Pip (sister to Phoebe from the first book) when she sold his brother a couple of quarter horses. He was attracted at this point. When he saw her again, she was trying to save her sister Phoebe. That pretty much sealed the deal for him. Pip is the twin of Perci (the nurse). She is quiet, anxious and afraid. Matt doesn't want to see fear in her when he's around. He's very kind and gentle with her. When he finds out why she's so afraid, he's very angry. They become close when he gives a pregnant rescue horse that he was asked to take. But, trouble is coming her way. The man who assaulted her when she was a teenager is back in town. The Mastersons and the Tylers band together. While some are injured, they all survive. Matt and Pip get their happily ever after.

The doctor in question is a placid Vet. The Tyler girl he hooks up with is Pip, the quiet identical twin who works with horses, hence their connection. Since this is a Western Romance Novel their hooking up is a foregone conclusion leaving Levi the Rancher to mate with Pan in volume III and Nate the medical doctor and the largest of the Masterson brothers to woe the fiery twin Perci in volume IV. I’m not supplying spoilers here, Romances are just that predictable. The author seems to believe in drama and both these first two novels have gone out with a bang. Romances follow a fairly standard regime always ending in a happily ever after. It’s the obstacles on the way to true love that spice up the works. At least this author doesn’t load us down with detailed bedroom scenes though this couple have a roll in the hay the details of which we are spared.

Awesome Book!!!

I loved reading Discovering the Doctor(Masterson County Book 2)!!!! All about Pip Tyler she is twenty-three years old and is a horse trainer and a twin & Matt Masterson is thirty years old and a veterinary and her brother-in-law. Her sister Phoebe married his brother the Sheriff. Both families live in a small town and both own a ranch, they are effectively next door neighbors that live ten miles apart. Pip is soft spoken and cares for broken & abused horses and nurses them back to health. She’s been thru some rough patches with her whole family and she is very skittish and completely panicked when with people she does not know, and even with people she does know. Read about Pip & Matt and see if they are the right fit for each other!!! Lots of emotions and palliative fear throughout the book!! Definite Read!!! Can’t wait to read book 3!!!

Another hard hitting suspense romance in a tiny package. For the length, the plot and characters were very well developed. I would love to see what the author can do with a full length novel.

This book was packed with suspense and action, and had a very nearly sweet romance- consummated in reference, but not explicit- allowing the reader's imagination to do what it was designed to do.

PG13 for violence. Some sexual content and language.

Trigger Warning: An attempted rape in the main character's past is a big part of this book and may be triggering for some. The would-be rapist makes an appearance and even has some POV chapters that show just how twisted a rapist's mind may be. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone struggling with trauma due to sexual violence.

Owned in The Masterson County Collection (books 1-4)

The quiet one

Pip has been protected by her sisters most of her life especially after she was attacked four years prior... Now Matt wants to step up and be her man, her protector, her love. But she doesn't know this until he makes things clearer... The same time a director comes to town and her past comes back to haunt her.

The Tylers and the Mastersons are pairing off but Perci knows she doesn't have to let that change how she feels about Nate. Even after all they've faced.

This book was a great blend of family, bravery, danger, finding love and sweetness.
What would have made it better was more about each coupe that has come to be paired off.

I am curious about Jenny and the director- turns out he's good people what does he think of his assistant?

Love Calle's books!

What more can I say?? I've read several of her books, although that is pretty darn hard. I read approximately two books a day. If it weren't for Kindle Unlimited, I wouldn't be reading anything but the $99 cent ones, which I did, for many years. Then, I found and joined Kindle Unlimited and I love it!! It has really opened many authors to me. Calle would you please consider putting, at least some of your books, into Kindle Unlimited?? I have been reading her mystery books, whenever and however I can get one. I am really, really hooked on those!! Oh, am I ever! I love them! They pull you in and you can't put it down, until the end. You won't go wrong, no matter which books, by Calls you read. I highly recommend all of Calle's books!!

Pip and Matt

Pip is the quiet twin, the one who likes horses better than people. Matt is the Veternarian that gives her an abused pregnant quarter horse. Pip is afraid of men ,as the old sheriff's son tried to rape her. Then the old Sheriff wouldn 't let them report him. Now Jay is out of prison and trying to get to Pip again. Matt tries to protect her, but Jay is a madman. Jay sets fire to one of the barns and tries to kill Matt. Pip and Percy end up being hurt, too. But Matt and Pip declair their love for each other.

But Pip has a stalker, and between his break ins, and following her, she is getting more afraid, then Matt decides to stay with her and her sisters, but then something unthinkable happens. Pip & Matt

Philippa (Pip) Tyler relates to horses more than people, and Dr. Matt Masterson wants to know why. They met when Matt dragged Pip and her twin from the flooding river and shielded her from the madman who was shooting at her. Pip is also subject to panic attacks, but Matt doesn't think the river incident is the entire reason.

As with other Brookes books good plotting and charactorization.

A real page turner

Well written the continuation of the Tyler’s and Masterson’s saga had me catching my breath at times and my heart racing. This time it is Pip and Matt who are the lead characters and their love story is both suspenseful and romantic. If you have not read the first book in this series do yourself a favor and do so. This book is a stand alone but you will derive so much more from it when you read Seeking the Sheriff 4.5 Stars from me highly recommended!

Shy, reclusive Pip Tyler has to finally figure out just what the gorgeous local vet, Matt Masterson, wants from her. Of course, romancing a headstrong Tyler girl is never easy. As Matt slowly and carefully reveals his feelings and intensions to Pip, secrets and terrors from her past resurface to threaten her life and those she loves. This was an exceptional story filled with incredible attraction, hidden strength, and life changing drama. Fast Paced and Very Addictive! Great Read!!!!!
