Reminiscent of the child's party game of Telephone, an amusing story follows Pelican, who rushes off to tell Monkey that she has just seen a huge and scary spottyhippomus, and as each animal scurries off to tell the next animal, the descriptions get wilder and even more terrifying! Simultaneous.
I read this one to my 2-year-old niece over video chat and she loved it. Now I've sent her a copy to read whenever she wants, and she's missing the point of the book and thinks a snarlyhissopus is a real monster that's coming to find her. Maybe she'll resume loving it when she's a little older....
This book is like playing the game telephone with animals. Pelican meets a new animal in the jungle--hippopotamus. When Pelican tells another animal what she met, the name and description of the hippopotamus changes drastically. At the end, all of the animals meet Hippopotamus and discover that she is not a big scary monster.
A great book for toddler's story time. They love the pronunciations of all the crazy names that the jungle animals create trying to correctly announce the arrival of the hippopotamus. The illustrations are colorful, bright, and engaging. A definite read for little ones. A great tongue-twister for the reader, Good Luck!
This is a silly and fun book with animals that are pretty much playing the "telephone" game where the playful hippopotamus becomes a scary Snarlyhissopus by the time the news of his arrival gets to all of the animals in the jungle.
Could be used for a storytime on communication, silly stuff, or even mud.
This reminds me of the game "telephone" where the message gets more and more outlandish with each telling. Cute book! Sends my 3 year old into fits of giggles.
