The Flight of the Scarlet Tanager begins in Oregon with a young woman named Teddy spectacularly rescuing a child from drowning. The entire event is caught on videotape by a tourist and is heavily publicized. When Teddy wakes up in a hospital, she has no idea that she has just inadvertently put herself back into a very precarious limelight. Realizing her dilemma, Teddy escapes the hospital. Only a few steps behind her are the dangerous individuals who work for a man who frantically wants her dead and buried, her own uncle. Not only does she escape but she witnesses the murder of a security guard and kidnaps a young man named Fitch, who happens to be driving by the hospital at the wrong time. A seventeen year old runaway, Teddy is now fleeing for her life, and Fitch, the son of an Army general and far more intelligent than Teddy would have liked, is caught up in the treacherous situation. Once nicknamed after a bird, a scarlet tanager, by her father, Teddy, has secrets that could burst a dam, and Fitch is a young man who doesn’t know how to back down from a challenge.
C.L. Bevill has been in the U.S. Army, cleaned floors, a graphic illustrator, a therapist, and a stay at home mother. She lives in the Alabama area with her husband and daughter and keeps plugging away at the next great American novel.
Really good. It has military language in it so beware. I really liked it. I will look for more by this author. Typically in a long book I skim through the pages because it gets boring, there was no part of this story that I wanted to skip.
Absolutely brill book. Full of action from the first chapter. Would make a fab film! Was wondering if I'd enjoy it as much as the Bubba books & I certainly did.
At times very exciting and great characters but got tedious for me. Towards the end it really became so predictable, I didn't bother finishing it. Not a huge lover of the genre to begin with. I like "veiled eyes" much, much more!
I've been sick this weekend and I couldn't have asked for a better book to keep me company. A wild ride of entwined mystery, intrigue, familial disfunction, and innocent romance. Caren Bevill - you rocked another fabulous story!
I picked this up in the library as an afterthought. I had no idea it would be so good. It grabs you from the first few pages and never lets up. Not only was it an excellent book, I have also added another author to my list of faves.
Compelling characters (with the possible exception of Theron who is a bit cartoonish, as far as villains go), a complex plot, tons of action, and great chemistry between Teddy and Fitch and up to a very enjoyable thriller.
loved this book. it took a long time for me to start it but so thankful once I got into it. Teddy is a fantastic character and Fitch is so perfectly matched for her. couldn't put this one down.
That's not to say the books aren't nice. Kindly forgive the double negative. They are, but it would be even nicer to say more. Sorry. It can't be done.
This book is so good that I have read it 4 times in the last year. Yep, that good. I was really impressed with the finesse with which the author mixed together the two high govermental agencies, with almost a " Who's on first" mix up feeling going on . The two young people ( who are the main characters ) are definitely very strong characters, and are very knowledgeable separately , but almost unbeatable togeather. The bad guys are unbeatable in the bad guy arena....no scruples about doing ANYTHING to achieve their desired ends. There is also a good element of humor in the book. I have recommended this book to many of my reading friends.
