I don't know what this book is suppose to be. I thought it was a cheap supermarket biography(No shade) but it reads more like a cheap supermarket paperback romance (All shade). I've never read a biography with so much dialogue in it.
Unless Jane Ellen Wayne hid tape recorders in peoples bedrooms I don't know how she could repeat these conversations. Most of the dialogue is between people who had been dead for decades when this book was published in the 1980's.
I mean come on!
Is this a Biography or is it Historical Fiction?
As a biography it was not great but as Historical Fiction I would have given it 4 Stars. As Fiction it was a fun read but as a biography I was annoyed.
I'm rating it as a biography and including it in my 2019 Nonfiction Challenge but I still feel uncertain about it.
At about age 15 or 16 I fell in love with classic Hollywood. I loved the movies - plots, costumes, sets and actors. I started to become more fascinated with the different actors and learning more about them. I started to go to the library and started picking up various biographies/memoirs. Jane Ellen Wayne writes a few biographies with the focus being on the love lives (affairs, marriages, etc). I found them entertaining, and led me to more credible biographies.
Um. I did find the gossip and facts interesting, but the writing is horrible. Could as well have googled the info rather than suffer through (made up?) dialogue.
