26 year old Evelyn Reed (Evie) is a former hot shot reporter who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She has been told that there's nothing more the doctors can do for her. As she is leaving her doctors office, she decides that she is going to try and live. Fortunately, fate has plans for Evie.

James Wesley is a 150 year old vampire, turned by his uncle Philippe on the day he turned 30. He is also an amazing artist who's works sell very well. He has been following Evie around for 8 months since running into her in Chicago. He is awe stuck by her beauty and courage and after realizing that she is dying, he wants to do something for her. When Evie's cab is T-boned by a garbage truck, James rushes in and saves her in the only way he knows how: changes her into a vampire.

Just as James and Evie begin to define eternity together, a zealot breaks an ancient treaty, threatening a peace between humans and vampires that has stood for a thousand years. And when he focuses his hatred on Evie, the immortal lovers find themselves swept up in a deadly supernatural war.

Review: I liked the premise and relationship between James and Evie well enough. I was not offended that Evie took so quickly in becoming a vampire. Had anyone else been given a choice whether to die painfully, as cancer takes and rips apart the body, they would have gladly taken the chance as well. I liked the way the change is called the kiss, and the new vampire is called a changeling.

The first part of this book is all about Evie's determination to learn how to be a vampire and James love for her. Most of the novel is about their love and romance, and yes sex scenes abound between James and Evie as they strengthen their love for each other.

As things are getting good between Evie and James, Philippe sends some men to kill James. Evie jumps in the in the way and James is forced to save her again. It's not the only time that vampires try to come between the couple. Another vampire named Liam challenges James for control of Evie (she's a new changling at the time and therefore any vampire who wants to put a claim in on her, can.) James wins.

Evie's story is very interesting. She was dropped off by her mother at her grandmothers house when she was 7 years old. Grandmother died as she was graduating from college and Evie told herself that she would never again allow herself to become a victim. She self teaches herself Krav Maga, and works harder than anyone other reporter to get her story. Evie grows some amazing new powers thanks not only to exhanging blood with James, but after being hit with lightning trying to save a kid. She's also a force to be reckoned with now that she has these new powers. Can't wait to see how they develop.

Stealing time is definitely a novel for those who enjoy the aspects of paranormal romances as well as those who love to see vampires fighting other vamps and a bunch of intrigue between the main characters. Evie and James love affair is defintely worth reading about. The fact that you have a vampire uprising in the making, along with intrigue with the possibility that the Fae might join in, only makes this novel that much better to read. The story plots along at a rapid pace and at 298 pages, I finished it in one sitting.

The book ends, of course, with a major cliffhanger, for which I will not spoil. Needless to say, there has to be another novel to answer some questions. We need to know more about Philippe and the Church Slayers, and what happened to the Ancient vampires at the Gathering of vampires in Idaho. Why is Philippe aligning himself with the Dark Fae King Reiden? What will happen to Evie's college roommate Kate Garrison since she was kissed by another vampire? I also want to see more of conflict between the Slayers and the vampires and see on what side James, Evie, Gabe, Jack, Siska, Nic and Kate fall on.

I'm rating this book with 4 stars. My reason is that James and Evie's relationship didn't feel contrived or made up. It was genuine. The action outside of their relationship was good as well.

An interesting thing happened while i was reading this book, I found myself sitting up, leaning forward, rapt, paying close attention, pressing the forward button faster and faster, trying to read as quickly as possible getting as into the story as i could. This story made me physically move. It made me sit up straighter, my heart raced, I was in the zone. This book was responsible for me missing a meeting, being late to pick up someone, it was responsible for the entire destruction of a day. And for that THANK YOU Elisa Paige and Carina Press. It is so rare that a book makes one get closer to it, bring it in try to absorb it, it was... in the words of Barney Stinson... Legendary.

It started out predictable enough, vampire boy changes human girl after prolonged period of stalking, as is perfunctory, and then there is a threat. Thats where Ms. Paige takes a left and it ends up a fantastic tale about a girl who clearly doesn't need a protector, a guy who wants to still do that for her and some of the most grotesque descriptions of mutilation murders, vampire and old people in fighting, psychopaths of all walks of life and strangely enough, love of all different varieties. Its DARK. I LOVE THAT. it makes all my evil spidey senses tingle, take this line for instance;

His name is Reiden and you've never seen such an evil son of a bitch- he makes Phillipe look like a naughty Cub Scout

Doesn't that snark just make your spine tingle? Or wait how about this one....

Vamp 1: That was when the jackass here decided he was a bit peckish and tried to kill me.

Vamp 2: I hate French Food. Gives me heartburn

Vamp 3: (Paraphrasing here) Its funny.

Soon to be Vamp: Not if you're whats for dinner its not.

Okay THATS funny. Enough of me going on about it, down to what makes it good. Its a simple story told exceedingly well with a great cast of characters who make the mundane situations snortable, endearing, frightening, and entertaining. Ms. Paige's brilliance is in character interaction, which is why it features heavily in this book. Every aspect of it is told in relation to the other characters, which is kind of cool, you get snippets of everyone's thoughts, you get to learn what influences them, and why they are motivated to do what they end up doing. Enough is explained so that you understand the salient points and people, but not so much is explained that you feel hand held or so that you lose interest. This book was clearly written so that there was enough for a sequel and it feels that way. It stops at a perfect cliffhanger that is so potent, I immediately googled the sequel information.

This is what a new paranormal romance book should be in 2011, its no longer that anyone and everyone should write them, they should be INTERESTING and NEW and DIFFERENT, and WELL WRITTEN. They have to have more than slapping some fangs or fae on a story and letting it go. This book is fantastic.

The good and the bad of this book make an overall middle - not too good, but not too bad either.

I would have love to start with the good things, but since they come near the end of the book, and I don't want to spoil it for you, I can say that the building of all the emotions and characteristics of the characters grow during the course of the book, so the writing gets better as the story progresses. Evie and James do have some grounds for their relationship to develop, and the people in their lives make great side characters as you get to know them. I am very curious as to how the side stories are going to develop, and I don't give them too much notice if the characters are not interesting to me.

The bad was that I couldn't stop comparing the romance between Evie and James with Cat and Bones. It is not that obvious a parallel at the beginning, because theirs is really, really fast (and the deal with him stalking Evie for eight months was uber creepy, and definitely NOT something to base romance on. Not to mention how Evie never once reflects on her illness or so calmly accepts everything that is thrown her way at the beginning of the book), but it is there and it made me a bit uncomfortable because I am of the opinion that Cat and Bones cannot be duplicated, and I am still not proven wrong. James is a bit of a wuss at the beginning too. I personally like strong male characters, but he just doesn't cut it, although he does get better near the end.

The ending was left on a huge cliffhanger, and I would love to read the sequel. This is not something that would blow your mind off, but it is definitely worth a try, especially if you're a fan of vampire novels.

This is a great book by an author with loads of talent and tremendous potential, but I only do vampires in very small doses, so I'm just not the target audience for this book. I was drawn to its awesome cover, and at first glance of the blurb, I thought that it was a time-travel paranormal. Ooops. However, I try to read everything that I request on netgalley, so even after I realized that this was a Vampire novel, I kept reading. If you love well-done, sassy Vampire novels with touches of humor like those by Lyndsay Sands, Kerrelyn Sparks, Angie Fox, Mary Janice Davidson, Erin McCarthy et al, you will LOVE this book, and I bet this will be a four or five star read for you. The book features a first-person narrator who has been "rescued" from a cancer death sentence by a well-meaning Vampire. I found heroine most interesting prior to being "turned," and I would have loved to have spent more time with her as she dealt with her terminal illness so that I became more invested in her being saved. But, hero swoops in just as we are getting to know her. One of the reasons why I don't read more vampire books is that I just don't like slightly-stalkerish "we were meant to be together" vampire heroes who steamroller over potential obstacles and objections. However, MILLIONS of readers disagree with me and love Suave, assertive heroes like this, and those readers will love the relationship here. Paige has a fun, fresh voice that will win her loads of fans, especially from younger romance readers who are vampire crazy. I'll keep an eye out for her, especially if she ventures outside of vampire-landia.

The thing that drew me to Stealing Time (on NetGalley) was the cover. It was so purple and vivid and beautiful, that I knew I wanted to read the book. And all this time, I presumed that I don't judge a book by it's cover...

The initial concept of Stealing Time by Elisa Paige is actually a pretty interesting one. Evie, a successful young 20-something who has pushed her way up the ladder in a male dominated career has learned that she is dying. She has terminal cancer and although the end is eminent, she's just not ready to die yet --- not here, not now --- not like this...

One day while riding in a taxi cab, Evie decides that it's time to take charge of her life. If only she gets out of this taxi RIGHT NOW, she superstitiously believes, she will somehow save her life. She will somehow overcome the odds.

Except, oops, her sudden exclamations and hasty demands to exit the car have caused the taxi driver to crash. Now, Evie is dying -- immediately -- of wounds from an automobile accident instead.

Next thing she knows, Evie is very much alive... but there's something very different about her life now. Her senses are so much more vivid, like everything is an exclamation of color and sound. And she's hungry ... so very, very hungry.

James Weasley is a brooding artist who happened to see the accident. Except, he wasn't just in the right place at the right time. He's been watching Evie for a while. And, he's not ready to let her die.

James is a vampire, and to save Evie's life, he turns her into a vampire too. But, this isn't a world in which the most dangerous part of vampire-ism is glittery skin under the sunlight. Instead, Evie gets herself caught up in a world of murder, deceit, battle, and ancient treaties.

I haven't read any real paranormal romances, so I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. I liked the chemistry between James and Evie. Also, it was nice that neither of them were overly perfect or stereotypically "normal" to the point of boredom. They were just about the right mix of power and flaw to keep the story going, I think.

I'm not a huge fan of detailed sex scenes or attack scenes, so I may have flipped a page or two through those, but it wasn't anything that deterred from the book in the least. Just a personal preference. Like I said, this isn't my normal genre so I'm really not one best to judge something like this, honestly.

I think my favorite part of the entire book was near the beginning, when Evie was first changed. She's realizing that she's been redressed, into a robe, and is alarmed that James must have physically undressed her and perhaps taken a glance at her -- at her most vulnerable and naked. She hesitantly thanks him for taking care of her, knowing that she must have been a bloody mess after the accident.

"She says "Thank you" and "'My pleasure,' was his automatic response."

"Oh? I was a modest person and this was uncomfortable.

"James's eyes flashes to my face. 'I didn't peak' he said, [...] Well...much"

"And? I asked archly."

"His grin was wicked. 'My pleasure.'"

I think this little passage really illustrates the humor of STEALING TIME. It's not just brooding and dark -- it definitely has its funny parts too.

My other favorite part was near the end, when Evie was struggling with her desire for human blood. As one of the good guys, she doesn't consume human blood but she still must fight the innate desire to do so. At one point, she is hovering over a bleeding man and is ready to give into her desires and drink his blood. She hears him whispering...

"It was the Lord's Prayer ... and deliver us from evil ...'"

"My brain stumbled. He meant me. 'Evil' echoed through my mind. 'Evil,'"

Be forewarned, this book ends suddenly. Not quite in mid-sentence, but definitely in mid-action, so you'll have to wait for the sequel to find out what happens next.

I don't know how many books are in this series, but I'll likely give the next one a chance, when it comes out, to see where the author takes this story.

The book starts with Evie getting the worst news of her life, the cancer is terminal and there is nothing they can do. She plans on living out the rest of the time she has left on her terms, but her time comes much quicker than anticipated when a truck hits her cab. To save her life a secret admirer, James, changes her into a vampire. Although her new life is very different and overwhelming at times, she still falls quickly head over heels for him. However, her bliss is cut short when a war breaks out and an ancient treaty is broken. With everything crumbling around them, they must stand strong to have any hope at surviving the war.

Evie had a rough childhood. At a very young age her mother dumped Evie off on the porch of a Grandmother she has never met. While her grandmother did care for her, she wasn't the type to coddle, so Evie grew up keeping herself at a distance from everyone. She struggled at first to accept her feelings for James, but once she did, it felt like a floodgate had opened. I really loved the chemistry between them as well as his determination to be a gentleman. At any point during her vulnerability her could have taken advantage of her weaknesses but he never once thought to despite the fact that is part of a vampire's instinct to claim the ones they turn. They work really well together, they had the comfort that ususally only comes from years spent together. Things were pretty steamy as well, but not overdone.

Something I have always liked in vampire/werewolf books is a very strong mate bond. Most of these type books talk about predator or animal like instincts, so it would make sense for them to be fiercely protective of their mates. Perhaps I am a romantic, but I love the whole "mate for life" idea or soul mates. James and Evie really developed this type of bond and I love how the author made the mate instincts very strong in this book, yet didn't make them seem over done.

Just to warn everyone, this book does have a pretty big cliffhanger ending. I had thought this was a stand alone novel, so the ending really caught me off guard. However, I am glad it will continue as I really enjoyed this book and would love to read more about their adventures. I highly recommend this book for both paranormal romance and urban fantasy fans as this book is a very good blend of both genres. There is plenty of romance, but the plot moves along nicely, and it more than kept my attention. Try this author out, you won't be disappointed.

This is a fast paced urban fantasy that kept me gripped throughout. I found myself thrust into Evies world from the first sentence and was hurtled along at incredible speed as she struggles with terminal illness and is changed into a vampire- escaping death. The pace was a little disconcerting at first but I soon adjusted.

I liked the way that the author describes Evies change from human to vampire but I thought that she accepts that she is a vampire perhaps a bit too quickly. The vampire mythology isn't exactly groundbreaking, but is consistent and believable. One interesting element is Evie's development of a special ability after a freak accident and is something I hope is developed further over the series.

The romance between Evie and her maker James is a very large part of the book and they are very strongly connected. The attraction between them is obvious from the very beginning of the book and soon develops to the point where they can't bear to be apart. Despite this I found the romance between them sweet and endearing and not overbearing or forced.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. It has similarities to other vampire novels that are popular at the moment and doesn't really break new ground. it's just a well written, entertaining urban fantasy with a cliffhanger ending that will make you impatient for the release of the second book.

I would give it 3 1/2 stars if goodreads had that option.

Evie has cancer. She has just been told that there is nothing that can be done. She is dying. She takes a cab from the Dr. office and yells at him to stop, causing a car accident that would be fatal for her. But, fortunately for her, she has been stalked by a vampire. He runs off with her and changes her.

The vampire, James, sensed something different about her and knew she was suffering from a terminal illness. He watched and waited for a good time to approach her and ask if she would like to become immortal.

Evie jumps from the fying pan and into the fire with her change. A vampire war is on the horizon and her immortal existance is in danger of ending prematurely. The romance between Evie and James is sudden and honestly reminds me of a mixture of a few popular series out there. I would say that Elisa Paige takes some of the better parts and creates her own take on a vampire romance.

I stayed up until 11:30 reading last night, because I could not put it down. The ending is intense and leaves you at a major cliff hanger. I would say that this is an entertaining novel. Caution for anyone sensitive to intimacy and profanity. Both are contained in the pages of this book.

I have to admit, I am suffering a bit from vampire overload and fatigue. However in spite of said fatigue, I found that I did in fact enjoy Stealing Time. It is tough to stand out when there are so many good hearted vampires who feel torn between their blood lust and compassion, but stand out, classic tall dark and handsome recluse artist by day/compassionate, vampire James Wesley did. Thankfully, while the romance between the two main characters was sweet (albeit typical) the whole story wasn't about them staring into each other's disgustingly perfect eyes. There were other romances blossoming all around (tension filled love triangle alert! but thankfully not between the main two characters), there was an interesting cast of characters and a cool take on vampire lore. If you are a vampire fan, definitely check this one out. If you aren't, you might want to take a peek anyway, because there is a lot more to this book than meets the eye. Pretty much all elements of the story have been done before, but the way they are put together in this book, combined with the author's voice (which I very much enjoyed by the way) make this a stand out book...

Overall, this was very nicely done. The plotting could have been better, but I think the author has demonstrated enough potential that I'll keep an eye out for future works.

What I liked:
- the way the author is able to describe things so vividly; you can hear the characters breathe, see their shadows move. Each moment/scene is crystal clear.
- Evie and James. Sometimes they do things that make me wonder what they're thinking... but I'm wondering because I want to go deeper, get to know them better. They're both strong people and I like how they show their strength by demonstrating respect for each other. They have a few communication problems along the way, but there's no alpha-douchiness. (I'm ok with alpha heroes, but there's that line, you know, between being strong and being a jerk.)

What I didn't like
- Not counting the fabulous intro- The pacing really seemed to lag for me; I didn't really feel drawn into a compelling narrative until the second half of the book. While each scene was vivid, the lack of a clear story arc meant that the momentum/progression wasn't really there, which made it really hard to get into.

This is the third book Ms Paige's I've read. I enjoyed this book as much as I enjoyed her two books from another publisher. This story about a male vampire stalking a female human to make her "his" has been done before. This version is fun because of Ms. Paige's writing voice. Some of the witty one liners that show up in the book caused me to giggle. I read how a couple of people felt there were holes in this world of hers. I disagree because I've read her two other books - Maelstrom and Shadowplay. The series are separate but I see the tie ins so it makes more sense to me. I also feel there are some details which are purposely left unsaid so that it can be revealed in the next book.

For those of you who watched the show Lost, be honest. Wasn't part of the allure trying to figure out what the hell is going on? For me, I enjoy this, WTF moment and trying to figure out how everything ties in and falls into place.

I also like the strong females in Ms. Paige's books. I like how the women aren't all good or all bad. I like that Ms. Paige will paint a villain equally - be it female or male. The balance helps me connect with the story line more.

This book’s pacing was brisk with only a few ‘take a second to breath’ scenes from the start of it. It’s told in Evie’s POV, so the first few chapters are rather well done as she adjusts to being a newly turned vampire (and honestly, I couldn’t help comparing it to Bella’s POV in Breaking Dawn, which was arrrggh. Stealing Time‘s description was better).

I liked James from the start. His pull toward Evie was evident, even though she chose to ignore the telling signs of his affection for her until he had to come out and say it. I can understand, though, because when someone is way out of your league, you convince yourself that it’s never going to happen, even if everyone else is telling you he’s into you. (Been there, done that.)

The book’s not overtly steamy, but there are a couple of good sexy time scenes in there. And it does end on a BIG cliffhanger, though I’m not entirely sure how the sequel covers what happens next as it focuses on completely different characters. I was really hoping the secondary characters would get a shot at their own books since I quite liked them, but no such luck so far. Oh, well.

This book was fantastic! Evie was stubborn and loyal and James was handsome, comical and protective. There love wasn't exactly instant but there was always a connection. The romance was amazing and they clicked with each other so well. There friends were amazing and they were like a big family which is weird for vampires in there world. James's uncle is crazy and oh my god was that a huge cliff hanger. I can't wait for the next one!

The characters were too much like ordinary people, nothing special or different. I wasn’t engaged or pulled in.

STORY BRIEF:
Evie is a newspaper crime reporter who learned she has cancer and will die soon. James is a vampire who has been watching her for eight months. She is in a car accident. Now she will die from that instead of cancer. So James saves her by turning her into a vampire. He provides food, shelter, and protection while he teaches her about the vampire world.

Slayers are humans who use vampire teeth to kill vampires. There has been a truce for centuries. Now someone is doing things to break the truce, hoping to cause a war between slayers and vampires. Also, someone tries to kill James.

REVIEWER’S OPINION:
This sounds like something I would write if I were changed into a vampire - how I would think and talk. That does not interest me. It’s almost reporter like. It’s told in first person and reads like the following.

I’m now a vampire. I just broke a glass, oh I’m stronger than before. I’m hungry. I don’t want to drink blood, but my, it tastes so good. I see my friend Kate. I must fight my desire for her blood. Taking shallow breaths helps. I must control myself. Later: I have a shielding skill. I must concentrate hard to put a shield around the innocents. I am getting a headache, but I must keep concentrating to protect them. (I’m simplifying things, but this was my feeling.)

There is no interesting plotting. The main plot is experiencing what it’s like to be a vampire and fighting a lot. Bad vampires and others keep showing up, forcing Evie and her friends fight them. A human is brought to the group, so the new vampires must fight their desire for the human’s blood. There is a super bad guy out there who is orchestrating attacks on our heros. By the end of the book, the heroes and the super bad guy are still alive and will be continuing their fight in the future. Something missing is we never learn why someone wanted to kill James, either in this book or the sequel. It might have been better to be in the bad guys’ heads - to see their motivations, plans, and actions. A side note, we have all these strange creatures and monsters, but I never felt fear or anxiety.

The characters were too ordinary and all the same. They reminded me of young adults on TV sitcoms and reality shows. And they talk that way. For example, Siska is a Native American several-hundred-year-old vampire, but he talks in a contemporary cool way. He is talking with Nic and Kate (humans) and James a vampire. Siska just told them that he turned Jack into a vampire.

Siska says “Look, I didn’t change him on purpose.”
“No?” she managed to give the word a singular tone of menace.
“No, I was trying to kill him,” Siska said, his voice a little defensive.
Kate stirred angrily. “You were trying to kill Jack?”
Surprised by an attack coming from a different direction, Siska swung around. “Yes, I was thirsty.”
She shrilled, “Thirsty?”
“Hellooo,” Siska said mockingly and pointed at himself “Vampire?”
Nic’s voice was rough with anger. “So...what? You somehow decided after all not to kill him? To change him instead? How’d you stop, Siska? Aren’t you always telling me how hard it is to stop once you bite someone?”
“I was interrupted, okay?” I bit the guy and everything was going fine...” Siska began.
“Fine?” Kate interrupted. “You’re sucking the life out of Jack and it’s fine?”
Siska threw his hands in the air and appealed to James “A little help here?”
James chuckled. “No way, I’m not getting anywhere near this one.”

I’ve been ok with other authors having 100-year-old paranormal characters learn new languages and speak contemporary slang. So I ought to be ok with Siska sounding contemporary, but somehow it didn’t feel right. It felt weird. Probably because all the characters were the same. A good story needs some intriguing, excessive, or unusual personalities, which were missing. There is a variety of creatures defined but not a variety of personalities.

Relationship development - not enough for me. James apparently fell in love with Evie before she met him. We don’t see that. Now that he changed her into a vampire, he is showing her what the vampire world is about. She argues with him because she doesn’t like the rules. After a few fights with other creatures, she informs James she loves him. Her falling in love was told, not shown. I didn’t get to see any interesting development, other than they were impressed with each other’s fighting abilities. She had trained in martial arts for many years when she was human.

The sex scenes could have used more passion and sensuality. They were mostly descriptive. I skimmed parts of them.

DATA:
Kindle count story length: 5,526 (545 KB). Swearing language: moderate. Sexual language: mild. Number of sex scenes: 4. Setting: current day New York, Canada, Idaho. Copyright: 2011. Genre: urban fantasy and paranormal romance. Ending: happy for now but fighting will continue because enemies are still out there.

The premise of this book is interesting, the characters are lovable but the plot has many gaps and is hard to follow. That's not to say that this book isn't worth your time. It's a nice, leisurely read with a cute love story. I just felt that the overall end goal wasn't obvious. The supernatural war that's mentioned in the synopsis was an afterthought and didn't really make an appearance until the end.

Evie's background story is a sad one; she's young, beautiful and dying. Luckily for her, she has a vampire guardian angel (so to speak) watching over her. After receiving her final prognosis, Evie gets into a fatal car crash while en-route from her doctor's office. Talk about bad luck! That is until James swoops in and turns her dying mortal body into a vampire. For me, this was a great start to the novel. Having personally experienced cancer struggles with loved ones I rather enjoyed exploring this possibility. It added a dose of reality to Elisa Paige's fictional world. The only downside was that all of this occurred within the first chapter. I would have liked to have learnt more about Evie and her struggle before she was turned.

Evie awakens to her new life in James' house. She accepts her fate way too quickly in my opinion. There was little to no transition from her being terminally ill, to dying, to becoming a vampire. That's not including the evolution of Evie and James' romantic relationship. There were a few obstacles but they become immortal life-long companions in the blink of an eye. Evie resisted at first, but it wasn't much of a fight. They quickly became each others' everything. Love at first sight has its merits but in this case it wasn't fitting. I found it hard to believe that someone in Evie's position would just embrace her new existence so readily. She's been through hell and then some only to do a 180 and for everything to magically become hunky dory.

The main part of this book revolves around Evie and James' love story. They bask in each others company and try to learn every minute detail about the other. One night, during a romantic stroll through Central Park, they encounter another vampire which kick starts their adventure. However, it wasn't immediately evident what the danger was. In fact, it seemed like the bad guys were thrown in as an afterthought. None of the confrontations seemed connected until near the end when the plot finally comes to light. My impression of this novel went something like this: happy lovey dovey couple, couple kicks random vamp's ass, repeat. There weren't any obvious connections between the main characters and the main plot. Everything snowballs from here, all of a sudden James has an evil uncle who's trying to put an end to a centuries old treaty. Heuh?

Stealing Time is primarily a romance novel with vampires. I'm not sure if that was the author's intent or if the supernatural war was supposed to take center stage. This novel seemed like it was meant to be a mix of the two but failed to achieve that balance. The ending left me with more questions than answers and wondering what the main goal of the book was. The novel itself isn't bad, it just wasn't what I was expecting.

Evie Read is dying. She is very ill and doctor said nothing can be done already. On her way home, she met with an accident. James Wesley has saved Evie from the accident but she is badly injured. He is so moved by Evie's determination to live that he makes her immortal — a vampire, like him. Shocked by the change, but Evie eventually is glad that she is given a second chance at life. Evie and James fall in love with each other. Just when they begin to enjoy life together, their life is being threatened and they have to run away.

The first half of the book, focusing on the changes happened to Evie and how she copes with the new life as vampire. It is rather slow and a little long. Things become more excited and more actions, when they started running away from home, and facing other bad vampires, who wants to threaten the peace between humans and vampires. Just when things becoming more complicated, when Evie's human friend get involved, and I expected more actions, it ends abruptly. There is no mention whether there is any sequel to the book, but I feel the story is hanging there.

It is very normal for us, when there are things happen, we will always think what if I do it another way; what if it did not happen; bla bla bla; for Evie in this case, despite given second chance to live, but being a vampire is like a totally different life to Evie. She has to adapt to the rules in the vampire world. And f, which is total different rules from the human world. But first of all, she is not given a choice whether she would like to be a vampire or not. James made her a vampire based on her will - I do not want to die. So do we really have a choice in our life?

I rate this 2 out of 5 stars.

Stealing Time by Elisa Paige is a vampire romance where the strongest vampire takes all. The story focuses on Evie’s transition from human to vampire and introducing her to the vampire lifestyle, but the key to the story is Evie and James relationship.

I thought it was kind of stalkerish the way James watched Evie for 8 months travel from one doctor appointment to another in search of a cure for pancreatic cancer. Who the hell does that? Creepy. However, if I wanted to live I’d be appreciative like Evie, too. Lol

I gotta admit it was kind of nice to read a paranormal story in which a person is transformed to a vampire and doesn’t angrily freak out. Evie quickly took to being a vampire which made focusing on the couple’s relationship easy. Evie thrived as a vampire and it made her an interesting character to read about. The story is told from her point of view.

My biggest complaint with the book has to do with the ending. I don’t feel like the story was completed at all. Authors like Lara Adrian, Karen Marie Moning and Lora Leigh do an excellent job of wrapping up one storyline while keeping the overall story arc going into other books. That isn’t done in Stealing Time; we are given a situation and when it hits its peak we are yanked out and told to wait until the next book to solve the problem. Instead of making me want the next book, it really pissed me off and left me feeling unsatisfied.

With that said, I don’t regret reading Stealing Time. It had satisfying fight scenes and romantic relationship, but I don’t see myself re-reading the book.

Stealing Time is book one in a series; book two, Killing Time, will be released in June 2011.

I found the plot of Evie becoming a vampire interesting. I loved her descriptions of pain and the absence of pain. Both descriptions were right on. So, I settled into what I thought was somewhat stereotypical but still enjoyable vampire fiction. However, when James starts taking Evie out on the town, they kept running into people who didn't like James and made him fight for everything. What I found problematic with this is that after a bit, you'd wondered why they kept going out and second no reasons were implicitly stated as to why James had so much problems with the others. If he was a target, why did he bring Evie into all of it? Also, why didn't he explain vampire politics after the first altercation?

The second half of the book we had an all out war between the Church's slayers and one vampire, Philippe. The actions of Philippe was explained as insanity, it didn't really explain how he then became so powerful. Also there is mention of a fae prince, but no much more was explained there. The second half of the book was like having another story thrown into the first. It might have been better to have all this action in another book in this series and finish the formulations of the first. That one of Evie being a new changeling vampire.

I give this book 2 1/2 stars. The characters were interesting, but the plot just needed a bit of editing and cohesion. The book also ends with a cliffhanger.

Evie is dying she has cancer, she wants to live and live she does, just not in the manner she's used to. An old world vampire called James comes to Evie's rescue, after all he has been stalking her for the past eight months, (i found this a bit creepy).
The vampire world which James comes from is brutal were Humans are definitely prey and the motif of 'survival of the fittest' applies.

The story did not fly with me as she calmly accepts her new predicament, also the romance angle was very quick and lastly please finish the actual story, you can leave loose threads hanging and teasers to get you to want to read the next book but not such a huge cliffhanger, not cool.

On the plus side it is written well just did not engage me personally, I have been spoilt by far better authors in this genre, and I like to have some sort of conclusion at the end of a book.

3.5 Stars...
Overall the book was pretty good. It did start about a bit slow and until the second half of the book, the pacing seemed off. The first half of the book had no clear direction and it made me wonder where the story was going and how soon it would get there. Fortunately the second half really picks up and there is a clear direction. I will definitely read the next one to see how the series moves forward.

Try as hard as I might, I just didn't get into this book. It's not because this was a bad book- the author manages to create some real heat between her characters & puts a bit of a new polish on vampire trends.

I think that in the end, I just wasn't the right reader for this book.

This book was just to stereotypical of vampire fiction. On top of the unoriginal premise, the plot had a whole bunch of gaps and things weren't explained and leaps were made without any explanations. I had to stop this one about a quarter through.

Could not finish. Considering how I usually devour vampire novels, I don't know what it was. Fast action but annoying deliberation over the small things in the story.
