The book covers an important, but difficult to discuss topic. I admit that I hated that the main character couldn't admit to her parents why she didn't tell them. I think they needed to know how they failed her. I also feel that telling the main character that she was "lucky" it wasn't worse, is a horrendous thing to do. Overall, it seemed a good book for discussion of a traumatic topic for its target audience, even though a bit outdated by now.
