"As you read through this book, you will find that many of the artists offer the how, in terms of the stellar projects that they teach through the presentation of beautiful photographs and well-written instructions. More importantly, what all of the artists offer is to go beyond the how and explain the unique circumstances that they have experienced, in order to get to the universal why... which is that through the creative process, we not only find happiness, but also we find meaning, hope, and a way to connect to ourselves and to others." Art Saves is brimming with Inspiring goodness, as it showcases 20 Artists, including the Author, Jenny sharing their process, as well as their individual journeys to being Creators and how they choose to share those Creations into the World is an innovative approach to an Art book. Well laid out with colour photographs, and some Creative projects with step-by-step instructions allowing the reader to gain an interactive perspective.
You don't have to be an artist or crafter to get something out of this book. Art Saves delivers bit-sized inspiration from 20 artists, including author Jenny Doh. You'll learn about what inspires them and drives them, how art helped them overcome personal struggles, what they do when the going gets tough and how they give back to the community. Many of these lessons are relevant to more than just artists and can easily be applied to life in general.
The messages are uplifting but I thought the individual artist features were too short and merely skimmed the surface. There isn't much detail and most of it reads like an introduction. But that format, of course, allows for more artists to be featured. The works of the contributing artists represent a wide variety of art forms, from mixed media to photography, from knitting to jewelry-making. No matter the medium, the overall message is that art can help you connect with yourself and with the community. I especially loved the "Pay It Forward" column for which each artist has chosen a quote to highlight: mostly universal inspirations for anyone in any walk of life.
The book also includes a little bit on art techniques, with some artists sharing tips and tutorials for projects: including a collage piece by Kelly Rae Roberts, photography tips from Susannah Conway, digital montage by Susan Tuttle and a calligraphic wall hanging by Lisa Engelbrect.

I looked through this book several times for the projects and then one day I actually READ it! It is so inspiring! These artists have such a wonderful attitude about sharing art and helping people enjoy creating their own art.
I enjoyed this book, and felt like it was inspirational to me, since I am an artist. I liked reading about each artist and seeing their art. It was also neat because they shared step by step how to create some of their projects.
Inspiring book and I was happy to discover some favorite artists amongst the mix. I'm a true believer in the power of art as a healing tool having experienced it myself. Great uplifting read.
