The last book i read from Lauren was my guilty pleasure devon delancy.I enjoyed the prequel it 's hearwarming story about how Cooper and Eliza met.Boy meets girl story ,cooper is a ladies man and Eliza is a teen that deals with real issues dating, boys, mean girls and trying to fit in how they seem like an unlikely couple because they have different social standings. It's cute how Cooper accepted her for who she is and the story why she breaks up with him. Fans of lauren or one night that changes everyting will enjoy it. It's realistic fiction and it's a convincing prequel because after you finish you wonder what will happen next for Eliza and Cooper . I have yet to read the book but after it i am anticipating to find out what would happen to Eliza. It would give you background of the events before the book and it has twist and turns that would make you buy a copy to find out how the story ends.

Note: Although I own One Night That Changes Everything it is currently in my TBR pile so I read this prequel with no previous knowledge about the story.

Before That Night can be read prior to reading One Night That Changes Everything. It might even be better to read it beforehand as it really gives you a clear picture of who the characters are and the events that lead up to Eliza and Cooper’s breakup – the basis for the book. Eliza is the nice girl and Cooper, a popular senior, is most definitely a player – a combination that is almost always destined to fail.

This is a much longer novella than some of the prequels currently available, allowing you to get so caught up in the story that it’s a bit surprising when you reach the end. If you haven’t read the full-length novel, reading this prequel novella will make you want to go out and immediately pick up a copy of the book so you can find out what happens next. It was the perfect motivator to get me to start reading the book.

And in case you want just a bit more, the download includes a sneak peek of One Night That Changes Everything.

I found this short story through a quick Google search, but for those too lazy here's the link: laurenbarnholdt.com/wp-content/upload...

I highly recommend reading this AFTER you've read One Night That Changes Everything or else much of the book's mystery will be spoiled for you.

Before That Night offers snippets of Eliza and Cooper's relationship, from the initial stages when he first talks to her to the night Eliza finds out something terribly Cooper has done and breaks up with him.

An easy and super quick read, it gives the reader just what it promises. Eliza is a little paranoid about her relationship with Cooper, but we can relate to it for most part. Cooper is a charming guy and any girl would like him. Eliza's best friends - Clarice and Marissa - definitely add some humor to the story with their unique personalities.

I discovered this because I was on a Barnholdt roll. I reread Two-Way Street a few nights ago and I missed it so much that I read Right of Way and then The Thing About the Truth and then I was on Lauren's website then I saw the download link to this! (Or I think that was on her facebook) Anyway. There. I've gotten around to reading this last night and !!!!!

Cooper showing interest on Eliza was very surprising that she had hesitations then and now as to why a guy like Cooper would fall for her. Still, I think they're so cute and I love these two so much!!

honestly should've just been in the original book if there was going to be this little detail we didn't get many romantic scenes between them in the main book so i was hoping for a bit more in this one

I know, it's a lame description, right? But that’s really exactly what this story is. We get to read about what happened from the moment Eliza and Cooper started talking at the paintball arcade where Eliza works, right up until she goes through his stuff and finds the incriminating list from the 318’s, thus ending their relationship and kicking off the events of One Night That Changes Everything.

Before That Night is a wonderful, fun revisit to the characters and story from One Night. It’s super-short (it feels super-short, at least), clocking in at only 42 pages, and I actually would have liked to see a little more of the evolution of Eliza and Cooper’s relationship. We get to see some of it, sure, but it would have been nice to have more moments of just the two of them getting to know each other and building the romance (and some more steamy scenes would have been okay too :D).

Clarice and Marissa make appearances as their usual hilarious selves, and Cooper gets to be sweet and lovely, as opposed to the slightly more villainous role he’s given in One Night. Eliza continues to be a fantastic narrator and I was glad for this prequel even just to get to hear her thoughts some more.

I would highly recommend reading Before That Night after One Night That Changes Everything, because it will take away some of the intrigue if you read them the other way around. But if you enjoyed One Night, I would definitely recommend reading this prequel.

The lovely Lauren is making this novella available for free on her website (although you can also buy it from Amazon if you so desire), and it can be found here.

I have to say that the only reason that I am giving this three stars is because I like most of the stuff the author writes but this story honestly deserved two stars. I thought that when I read this book or novella that I would be getting a somewhat more in depth story of the relationship of Cooper and Eliza before she found out about his ties to the 318's. However the only part of the novella that satisfied me was the part when they first talk at her job and how he was able to get a date with her. Everything else seemed to move way to fast. I mean there wasn't anything to grasp on to this book. The characters didn't really talk about anything in this book and if there was anything deep and connecting between the character then it was just talked about in a small paragraph. As much as I liked "The One Night Everything Changes" I didn't like this novella. I mean yes it's cute but I feel as if there was no point to even writing this novella. The little bit extra that this novella showed could have been added to the end of the "the One Night Everything Changes". And I still have no idea what the main character looks like. I don't know if the author intended it to be that way or if just simply forgot. I don't know if I would recommend this book to anyone.

So Cooper comes to Eliza's paintball job & he's a gorgeous guy & takes her out to dinner & kisses her & she can't figure out why he likes her - and things with his friend Tyler are weird & he gets these texts & crap that he's all weird about - Marissa & Clarice, her friends, say that it may be nothing & stuff - & Kate, Eliza's sister, meets him & thinks he's nice - she's doing 1st year university. And basically, after that, one day, they're together at his house & she gets suspicious & goes through his stuff & finds a list for his initiation into the 318s group - this secret club of guys at school & his task was to make a girl believe that he loved her & there were points for kissing & doing all these other things & crap. COOPER IS DISGUSTING!!! WTFFF!!! IF HE REALLY LIKED HER, HE SHOULD'VE GROWN A PAIR!!! SCREW THE 318s!!! OMG and then he walks in on her reading it & she's crying & calls Kate - from there, it goes to the 1st book, One Night that Changes Everything.
But wow! Asshole! And he said that he really liked her - if he did, he didn't have to get in with the 318's

i think the reason that i don't like this is simple. i forgot it was a novella, or rather did not realise quite how short that made it. my trusty ereader told me it was a nice 70 pages long which while not brilliant was decent enough. Little did i know that 28 of those pages were a "sneak peak" into the original novel. in the beginning in the opening scene with crazy coupon man i settled in for a more in-depth version of what happened to them "BEFORE" but really i was not given much after the meeting of Eliza and Cooper and really i learnt nothing more about the characters either. large parts of the relationship we glazed over storyteller style and so based on this book alone i did not connect with the characters that much. especially because i LOVE One Night, this was a very disappointing read.

I read this after I read One Night That Changes Everything, and I liked it but there wasn't enough depth and it felt rushed, although there were some details and it was really interesting to read what happened before that one night. But in One Night, Cooper says (spoiler alert) that he forgot the real reason he asked Eliza out in the first place, but in Before That Night he acts all weird because of Tyler and what he's making him do, so obviously he didn't "forget," but still I think in the One Night book he really was sincerely apologetic. That's just my opinion, but overall this book and the One Night book were both good, and I've re-read both of them a few times.

But if I’m being completely honest, I’m not that good with hot boys. Hot boys are extremely unpredictable, which makes it hard to figure out their motives.
- Eliza
This is how girls get themselves in all kinds of trouble. They start paying attention to the bolts of electricity in their stomachs. And as history has shown, listening to bolts of electricity is like, the worst thing you can do. It always ends with heartbreak and trauma.
- Eliza
It’s just girls telling girls things that aren’t true, in an effort to torment each other.

Before That Night was such a fun insight to what happened before One Night That Changes Everything. I was instantly swept back in Eliza's world, and really reading Before That Night Made me want to go start reading One Night That Changes Everything once again. I just love Lauren Barnholdt's writing, and this was such a fun little snippet. I was so sad when it was over, as I just didn't want this one to end.

This is the prequel to 'One Night That Changes Everything," which is a book that I really enjoyed. I think it is important to mention that "Before That Night" is a very short prequel yet just as enjoyable to read. For those readers who enjoyed "One Night... - you will definitely want to read this preamble to see how everything lead up to that final crazy night.

This prequel novella made me go back and reread One Night That Changes Everything. It reinforces why their relationship deserved a second look. Cooper can be so sweet, but you get a very biased (and angry) view of him (for the first while anyway) in One Night.
The problem with this: too short! but that's the point, I know.

Before that Night is cute but short - glad I waited to read One Night that Changes Everything until I read Before that Night. In Before that Night Eliza and Cooper meet and have the perfect relationship until Eliza finds a crumpled up paper that leads her to believe that Cooper has only been dating her to fulfill an initiation dare.

It was all just a stupid bet! Or was it...I hope so!

Cooper & Eliza were a great couple but their relationship was based on lies. I wanted to like Cooper but I hated that he was lying to Eliza. I hope that we get to read his POV in ONE NIGHT THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING. I hope Eliza learns the truth and that her heart won't be broken for good.

Cute, super quick read. I was able to easily put myself back into Eliza and Coopers relationship. I just wish there was a little more substance! But I love Lauren Barnholdt, and any story that mentions the clean teens and One Tree Hill are perfect in my mins :)

It was kind of common, and it was kind of cliche, but I really still liked it because it made me see Cooper's really sensitive sweet side, and see why Eliza really freaked out and felt trampled in One Night That Changes Everything. A cute quick read.

Since I got to read to read One Night That Changed Everything first, it's good for me to know what happened before. Like how Cooper acted weird and seemed nervous about his task which made me think that he really loves Eliza. <3

It's just too short, but it's okay.:)

Great book

Loved it. If you like romance and drama this is your kind of book. It's very interesting and super suspenseful. But if you read this book you have to read the following one, One Night that changes everything.

Me encantó el comienzo, como se conocieron Eliza y Cooper. Pero fue demasiado rápido y aunque es una especie de introducción del primero libro, esperaba más, o por lo menos que se conocieran un poco más antes de estar totalmente enamorados. Eliza realmente me decepcionó.
