A young reader's introduction to the complex issues associated with child labor relates its worldwide history and current nature, explaining government responses and presenting the words of the children themselves. Simultaneous.
I liked this okay, but it was definitely a hard one to get through. It wasn't a thick book but I struggled with it because it talked about very painful stuff. My real problem with it was this, though: it spent so much time outlining the details of child labor and about a chapter talking about what you can do about it. I think it had its desired effect, which was to make me think twice about it and be in favour of better working conditions.
Looks at contemporary child labor issues and the abuse that goes on in other countries, why and where it can be found, types of jobs and profiles of working kids (factory, sex trade, military, fast food, etc.)
I really like the way this book is written. I that some people don't realize where their products come from or how they are made. This book adresses that.
