Simon's zany aunt brings him back a rare fish from her travels, but when he feeds his new pet fish dog biscuits, Simon's wish for a dog comes true in a most unusual way. A first children's book.
A fish named Spot is about a child who wants a dog. He finds that he is actually allergic to dogs and so his parents opt for a pet fish instead. While the young boy is taking care of the fish, he accidentally feeds the fish dog food. This causes the fish to grow and act like a dog. In order to change the fish back who missed his tank, the young boy fed him fish food. I personally did not love this book. I felt that it was not my thing. I could not give a specific reason as to why, however I did not think it was the worst book written. I do not think that I would add it to my library. I do think that some children would really love this book because of how silly it is! I am sure it would make kids want to feed dog food to a fish. I would personally not want to read this book again, however if my kids liked it, I would read it to them.
The leaps in logic made this confusing. My brain is trained for a book to make at least a little sense, and if it doesn't, then I'm waiting for the end part where you find out it was all a dream. This wasn't all a dream. Flood the entire house to the roof, let it drain, and "Yeah, my mom was a little mad," but there's still a happy ending? Weirdness.
boy who wants a dog gets a fish, he names spot, that for all intents and purposes turns into a dog...until the fish misses swimming and eventually (after some craziness) turns back into a fish-tank fish
This story is fun and exciting for students to read and listen to. It is full of problem solving and what they can do next. It also describes characteristics of fish which can be used to start a unit on fish and animals living in the water.
This is a great picture book for children! It would be great to incorporate this story into a lesson about water animals. This story is engaging and full of excitement! I would definitely recommend this for a read aloud!
