I was born in Nottinghamshire, England, but I didn't live there for very long. The family moved to West Yorkshire when I was just eighteen months old and so I have always regarded Yorkshire as my home. I grew up there as the middle child in a family of five—all girls—in a home where books were vitally important and I read anything I could get my hands on.

Even before I could write I was making up stories. My mother tells the story of me recounting the tale of the Three Little Raindrops — Drippy, Droppy and Droopy to my two younger sisters when I was four. I can't remember a time when I wasn't scribbling away at something, and I wrote my first 'book' when I was eleven, an adventure story, most of it in secret in lessons at school—particularly maths lessons, which I hated.

But everyone, particularly teachers and my parents, told me that I would never make a living as a writer, and I should work towards a more secure career. So I decided instead that if I couldn't write books, I could at least work with them and so I settled for becoming a librarian. On leaving school, I went to the University College of Wales Aberystwyth where I studied English and Librarianship for my degree.

More importantly, university was also where I met my husband who was also studying English there. We married and moved back north, eventually settling in Lincolnshire. Here I worked as a children's librarian until I left work when my son was born.

After three years of being a full-time housewife and mother, I was ready for a new challenge, but needed something I could do at home, and so I turned to my old love of writing. My first attempts at novels were written on the kitchen table, often late into the night when my son was asleep or during a few snatched hours when he was out at nursery school.

The first two novels sent off to Harlequin Mills & Boon were rejected, but the third attempt was successful. I can still remember the moment that a letter arrived instead of the rejection slip I had been dreading. I think I must have read it over and over at least a hundred times before the reality of what it said sank in, and for days I kept checking it just to make sure I wasn't dreaming. In 1984, THE CHALK LINE was published just in time to be one of my best Christmas presents ever.

Fitting in hobbies around working and being a wife and mother can be difficult, but I always find time to read. I love all sorts of fiction, especially Romance, obviously. I also enjoy historical novels, detective fiction and long, absorbing biographies about fascinating people and I can spend hours in bookshops just browsing. I enjoy knitting and embroidery, but I rarely get time to do either now that I'm a full-time writer. I also love looking round antique fairs or junk shops, hoping to add to my collection of Victorian embroidery. During my working hours my four cats, all adopted from the RSPCA, usually keep me company in my study, though they have to be dissuaded from sitting on the piles of papers that they are convinced are there just for them.

I love to travel and visit new places, especially places with an interesting history, and I always enjoy visiting old castles or stately homes and imagining how the people who used to live there spent their days.

I'm often asked if I'm a romantic sort of person because I specialise in writing Romances. Well, if being romantic means caring about other people enough to make that extra special effort, then yes, I am. Romance is about making the important people in your life feel valued and letting them know that you care. But I also write about relationships and the difficulties people sometimes have in understanding each other, or expressing affection, or overcoming problems.

Sometimes—when the right words won't come, or an idea hasn't worked out as I'd thought, I wonder why I don't have some regular nine to five job, but when the story's flowing and the characters come alive, I really can't imagine a

This book should have a sub title to it called: Dumb Bitch gets used over and over again and loves it ! Lol.

Ok so I have little pity for Grace, the heroine in this novel. She's supposed to be a mid management level employee in a respected advertising agency and she allows the H Constantine to treat her like crap. She's like a little dog that rolls over and begs for tummy rubs while gazing with sad, cute doggy eyes as the tummy rubber scolds her, insults her and leaves her. What makes it worse is that this is a cycle and Grace is a better trained little doggy than my wicked, unruly tiny wretch Harold. He would sulk and throw tantrums if I treated him the way Constantine treats Grace. Lol. Normally I would feel sorry for a heroine who is treated like this but hey, don't we live in an age of equality where women have the right to fight against horrible chauvinist behaviour IF THEY WANT TO ? Grace chooses not to fight against the way Constantine treats her like a cheap, tarty mistress. She makes the choice and that's why I feel absolutely NO PITY for her because it's a free modern world and if a woman WANTS to be treated like shit then I am just gonna laugh at her. Constantine NEVER hides his feelings. He is totally up front with Grace and lets her know ( over and over again ad nauseam ) that: she is just a mistress, she will never be his wife because of the way she had failed to trust him in the past and that their affair will be conducted ONLY according to his rigid set of chauvinistic rules. What kind of a masochist puts up with a guy who treats her like this ? I honestly couldn't hate Constantine either because he was just out for his revenge and he didn't have to blackmail Grace or force her to do anything. If he'd had to force her to do anything or blackmail her, then I could hate him but she's a willing participant in her own degrading downfall. There's not even a tiny bit of Stockholm Syndrome to explain Grace's doormat behaviour. I think this is a case of; "Don't hate the player, hate the game..." The woman slept with him the same night they met again after their 2 yr separation and he had been mean to her that same night ! Talk about doormat ! He insults her and she spreads her legs and asks for more, with a dollop of extra toppings to sweeten the punishment. Either Grace is a masochist dummy or Constantine's got Love Potion # 9 ( as that old song says ) in his dick or both...

This novel was entertaining because I really got a lot of laughs watching Grace make a fool out of herself continually. I have no idea how she is able to hold down her job and make good professional decisions when her personal life is a shambles due to her clueless behaviour around Constantine. In the past, she and Constantine had been in love and engaged to be married when her jealous stepsister Paula lied and said that she ( the stepsister ) had been banging the H. Grace chose to believe Paula and didn't give Constantine a chance to defend himself. When Paula later told the truth, Constantine was still angry that Grace hadn't trusted him so he cancelled their wedding. In the present, Constantine is still mad but he wants to screw Grace out of his system so he propositions her with a no strings type sexual affair where he would buy her expensive stuff and screw her as often as possible while also making snide insulting comments to her. She accepts ! Lol. Whatever. I am not gonna judge. Maybe Constantine's dick does have a love potion in it...

Grace only pulls her head out of her ass when Constantine tells her they need to leave his family's island Skyros because his parents are flying in and he cannot insult them by introducing them to his mistress ! Yep. That is how pathetic this woman has been behaving: things need to reach this humiliating level before she will open her penis potion deluded eyes. Constantine isn't even the one who seeks out Grace after their next separation. Grace is the one who runs to him after she's almost raped by a business client. If Grace had not gone crying to Constantine would they have received their HEA ? Hell, I'm on vacation, maybe a little bit intoxicated right now and this review has taken too much of my time as it is. The beach awaits and a sleeping hubby needs to be awoken for some more private time...

Yee gads...I was not going to buy this book, but then changed my mine. That was a big mistake. I need to start a heroine doormat shelf with this as the leading book! Not only is the heroine TSTL so is the Hero. The hero even admits to being a pig. His words, not mine...yet the heroine keeps going back for more. She does get her backbone for about two pages, but then loses it again. She didn't care anymore about marriage or commitment. She only knew that she needed Constantine, that only he could fill the emptiness inside her.

I stopped three pages from the end...because the logic to the HEA was too pitiful. I know one review indicated that he explained everything in the end...But in my mind, he was still spewing the same convoluted garbage. Love is about trust, but it is also about forgiveness. Why the heroine would trap herself with someone like that is beyond me. Kate Walker may have finally weaned me off HP's.

****2.5 Stars****

I usually love the old über alpha HP books but even for me this book was too wrong to say it was good.

Constantine was engaged to Grace, both madly in love with each other, and a week away from their wedding. Until Grace's stepsister tells Grace that Constantine seduced her because Grace refused to have sex until after the wedding. She claimed that Constantine had needs that weren't being met, so he approached her and seduced.

Grace confronts Constantine, who denied the accusation, but not
Enough to be believable. This leads to an argument and the postponement of the wedding. A few days later, the stepsister recants the entire story. Apparently she has been jealous of Grace for a while and just wanted to screw up Grace's life.

After learning of the lies, Grace runs to Constantine to let him
Know and to apologize for not believing him. Constantine is harsh and tells Grace since she had no trust in him, the wedding is off.

Two years later, Grace is at her best friend's birthday party and answers the door to find none other than Constantine. She is shocked and hurt by his coldness. He is just cruel to her from the very start. After a stressful night, she decided to leave. Constantine insists on taking her home. When they get to her flat, he invites himself in. One thing leads to another that leads to them in bed together and he learns that Grace is still a virgin.

This begins what Grace believes to be the start of the restart of their former relationship. But Constantine quickly puts that to rest. He claims that while he is still physically attracted to Grace, and plans to. Keep her around as a convenience, she will never be good enough to be his wife. He gives her the option to become his mistress or end the relationship. She chooses wrong (in my opinion) and decides to take whatever crumbs he hands out to her.

Their entire time together, he runs hot and cold. He loves her, she's his everything, but can only be his mistress. He is often cold and cruel and leaves her with her head spinning from his mood changes.

I really disliked this man. How can you claim to love someone and then repeatedly hurt them. And Grace was no better, the big dummy! She chose to get into a relationship with him hoping that he would change. Really?!

All in all, the book was a decent read. I just hated Constantine and wanted to shake Grace. They truly do belong together.

3 1/2 Stars! ~ The last person Grace thought she'd ever see again was her former fiance, Constantine. Two years ago she ruined all chances of a future with him when she failed to trust his fidelity when her step-sister, Paula accused him of trying to seduce her. When Paula confessed her lies, Grace tried to reconcile with Constantine but he would not forgive her and their wedding was off. Now he's back, and he still wants her. But he can never marry a woman who has no trust, so he suggests that Grace become his mistress. Grace can't fight their chemistry and she wants more than anything just to be in Constantine's life, in whatever way he will have her, hoping that some day their relationship will be more. But Grace had no idea how ruthless Constantine could be.

There are moments when you just want to haul off and slap the arrogance off of Constantine's face and then there are moments where you wonder how he can continue to hide his intense feelings for Grace. He is often cruel though he does explain himself in the end. Grace shows backbone in the end when she realizes having the man she loves in her life at any cost to herself isn't enough. Ms. Walker has a lovely flare for story telling. This was an enjoyable love story, though some may find Constantine too alpha.

I am just so angry at this book. And at the author for writing such a horrible relationship. What she is romanticising is psychological abuse, and nothing less! Frankly, I could go on about things in this book which, actually, horrifies me. How can anyone read this and believe that this is supposedly a healthy relationship? I want to be able to flag this book. Because it isn't supposed to be about psychological abuse. The book depicts psychological abuse as something normal, and wants to make you, as a reader, think that it's romantic. I cannot with enough words express my revulsion for this one, for glorifying something some women go through everyday and causes them so much pain and misery.
Just don't even bother reading it.

Very dull characters. Not a full story but more like a focus of an eventful time. Also, Kate Walker barely passed her English class with a C. She writes heavy run-on sentences and too complicated to follow with her string of words. She adds too much descriptive words all over and just insignificant.

OMG, beautiful story

I could have slapped the hero in the beginning but he came through in the end. Communication is essential in all relationships and finally they found their way. Recommended.

well the fact that he didn't know when to admit he was wrong was the major flaw in this unromantic romance
