Patricia Bragg (April 29, 1929 – August 10, 2023) was an American businesswoman, author, and health consultant. She served as the nominal head of Bragg Live Food Products and Books, and chairperson of the Bragg Health Institute.
Approximately 20% of the book is useful information, the rest is about testimonials. I wouldn’t purchase this book if the price is above $10. Along with the testimonials there are a lot of quotes, bible verses, prayer poems, and preachy paragraphs. Not that there is anything wrong with the religious context but expected something a little more in-depth with recipes and the science behind why ACV works so well. The content listed in the book is much outdated (references Jack LaLanne, broken website links, and old health books) Give it a read if you’re interested to learn what Dr. Bragg’s philosophy was during his lifetime. I found it interesting Dr. Paul Bragg passed away from a heart attack in his 80s despite how the book is titled, “Vital Living to 120!”
What was good: pretty straight forward, clear concept, and lots of little tips and testimonials
What was not so great: There is a million testimonials, the religious overtones weren't great for me personally(but that is a personal thing), it's pretty repititve, and they are definitely selling you their products and books through this as well
Better than the Miracle book, but just as cluttered and unappealing and outdated. This book does have some good information, but you really have to weed through the other stuff to find it.
Very interesting! I’ve only been following the lifestyle for a week, and I feel so much better. Can’t wait to see how I feel in the weeks and months to come!
Read this work in my mid 20s. I think, I don't fit the goal audience, or that the edition I read hasn't aged that well. A compilation of advice on healthy lifestyle. Ideas expressed still are actual, maybe more so than ever, also offer the view of experienced person from late 20th century. Author died at age of 81, title says "Vital Living to age 120!"
!SPOILERS!
First book I have had the pleasure to read advocating healthy lifestyle. I am grateful to Paul Bragg for his work and optimistic outlook.
Title seems quite misleading. I appreciate the grandeur of such a goal and I presume book was first published during Mr. Bragg's lifetime. However, as he died at age of 81, books published after his death are misleading. Ageing is part of life and this book doesn't sing praise of youth, rather a manual on how to best manage your body with age. I think me being in my 20s devalues the true worth of many chapters. The perspective of senior POV, is different than one I have now, a pleasure to change frame of mind. I haven't read other healthy lifestyle books' so this was a new experience. The tone felt preposterous at times, too much self praise. As I have no investment in Mr. Bragg's life or himself I simply didn't care.
Conclusion: 2/5. Senior reader oriented book with memes of original publishing time. Factual information is outdated. Requires readers interest in author for enjoyment.
This is just one of ten Bragg Health books produced to promote sales of products by Heath Science, Bragg Health Crusades. As with the other books in the series, about twenty-five percent is testimonials about how good their products are. There are several uncredited charts and graphics with outdated information, (i.e. food pyramid, omega-3 fats chart, etc.). Some web links listed do not work. Although one has to be skeptical and not take anything written at face value, the book supports some common sense value such as watch what you eat, do not smoke, and get exercise daily.
The reason I read this book, is the way the author, Paul Bragg, died at age 95 from the effects of a surfing accident. The information on diet this book teaches is similar to Eat to Live, Back to Eden, and Dr. Christopher's books. It was fun to read it from yet a different angle, however the layout and odd font make it difficult for my eyes. A couple new ideas I'm going to give a try are his posture exercises and his morning and afternoon sun routines.
So many bits and pieces of alternative health and healing through natural foods are brought together in this 145 page book by the Braggs. After reading their Apple Cider Vinegar book, Bragg Healthy Lifestyle would want to be read first and gifted to all. A fine and "simplistic" read that can be referenced again and again for years to come...in fact, also count the years that this book will extend you as well..
I bought this book for $4 because I liked the cover and I’ve been researching health and wellness. I wouldn’t recommend paying more than $4. The book has a lot of good info about food, which is great if you’re trying to add more nutrient/vitamin dense foods into your diet. But there’s also out of date info, and a heavy emphasis on fasting (including recommending fasting for kids ages 3 and up?)
It’s not going to be my health Bible or anything but it was a good read
Very good overview on healthy lifestyle with a focus on nutrition. Although, my goal was to skim over the book quickly, it caught my attention and i spent many subsequent hours to read the whole book. It also gives good recommendations on books about breathing, stretching and fasting.
This book contains vibrant health tips and shows you how to fight arthritis with organic apple vinegar and more. If you suffer with digestive problems Paul Bragg tells you what to do to help you heal naturally.
I love Patricia Bragg. Her family wisdom and her family raw apple cider vinegar has made all the difference in my health. Now I am moving into a new phase of being even healthier with some of these additional approaches. Chock full of information.
