Marie CT July Featured Author 2024

Synopsis of story:

Finding that desecrated body was only the beginning....

For Ashley and her three friends, it was supposed to be an adventure-filled weekend. A chance to get away from the hustle-and-bustle of city life and experience the peaceful tranquillity of nature.

But when they ventured into those woods, their trip turned into a horror far beyond what they could have ever imagined.

Because these four friends have wandered into the territory of the violent, grotesque Webb family. A group of psychopaths who have a taste for human meat. And they are hungry!

Ashley and her friends must face this evil head on, and, worse, discover the shocking secret behind the family's existence....

Marie Going to throw out the first question too.

How did this book come about Lee?

message 11: by Christy (new)

Christy I thought I would just read the first chapter before I go to work. I’m absolutely hooked, and I look forward to my breaks so I can read more. Thank you 😊

Reading the first chapter is all it takes before the action kind of really starts. I can tell this is going to be a fast-paced horror-drenched bloodbath!

message 13: by Kurt (new)

Kurt The end of chapter 15... plot twist I didn't see coming!!! Yikes!!!

message 14: by Christy (new)

Christy Kur, I am really wishing my work break would come faster. You have me dying (no pun intended) to see what’s going to happen.

Actually, I started writing this way back in 2015, but was just 'pantsing it' and kinda got myself lost with the story. Initially, the idea was the same until the group got to the house, where they were going to find demons, not cannibals. I left the story unfinished until I revisited it in 2016, and tried changing things up, switching to a bloodthirsty family, and things then flowed nicely from there.

Kurt I finished just now. Mr. Mountford, you got yourself a new fan! I really enjoyed this! I don't know what to say without spoiling it for the other readers participating in this, but I will say buckle up and make sure you didn't eat a full dinner, because you may lose it from reading a few of these chapters!!!
You can read my review on my page as well.
Also, while reading this, I was listening to the following:

It's just some good background horror music that really created an element of creepiness that made me enjoy the book even more!!!
Great work Lee!!! I can't wait to start reading the other books in this series!

Marie I am up to 39%. I forgot how gory this book was - good thing I still have my gore suit! lol :)

That is interesting how you took the demons out and inserted cannibals. Definitely a more rip-roaring gore soaking story! lol :)

Though you came back and wrote a story with demons so they didn't completely disappear from your mind. lol :)

message 23: by Marie (new)

Marie So another question Lee.

Is there a reason you went on this extreme romp into cannibalism? This debut book is one gory ride! :)

message 24: by Marie (new)

Marie Also I am 70% into the story. I am chugging along in blood splatter as it decorates my gore suit! lol :)

Haha, it's pretty full-on isn't it? So when I decided the book was going to be centred on cannibals, I knew pretty quickly it was going to be gory. I remember saying to myself that if there are gonna be a twisted family that loved the taste of human flesh, then I really have to lean into that. I mean, gotta show cannibals doing what cannibals do! So from there, I tried to lean into it even more, while still having an element of supernatural horror.

So the motto is "Go all the way on a gory ride"! LOL It works I can tell you that!

I finished the book too earlier today covered in blood that was dripping down my gore suit! LOL

Here is my updated review which I kind of left as is except for some tweaking here and there. :)
