I'm not sure I'd call it sword and sorcery rather than high fantasy, beside the fact that I consider superheroes their own genre. Nevertheless, one of my absolute favourite superhero runs, probably the best of the 2010s. And actually quite longer than listed above...

I'm wondering if anyone else here has checked it out, and if so, what their thoughts on it were?
Starting with 'Thor, Vol.1: The Goddess of Thunder' and continuing through a series of 7 trade paperback collections, the character of Jane Foster--an E.R. doctor romantically tied to the traditional, male Thor--finds herself chosen to wield the power of the hammer when the prior owner no longer can.
In an interesting twist, Jane is suffering from cancer when this occurs, and the power of Thor's hammer temporarily imbues her with strength and vitality to fight the ills of the world, but she also finds herself weakened after wielding it, because its power cleanses her body of all poisons--which ironically includes her chemotherapy treatments.
I found it be a fantastic series and truly engaging from start to finish. It was also cool that once it concluded, they spun the character off into an additional series in which she inherits a new identity and new powers as the character named Valkyrie (which is also an excellent series).
Here are all the volumes involved & the order they should be read:
- Thor, Vol.1: The Goddess of Thunder
- Thor, Vol. 2: Who Holds the Hammer?
*
- Mighty Thor, Vol. 1: Thunder in Her Veins
- Mighty Thor, Vol. 2: Lords of Midgard
- Mighty Thor, Vol. 3: The Asgard/Shi'ar War
- Mighty Thor, Vol. 4: The War Thor
- Mighty Thor, Vol. 5: The Death of The Mighty Thor
*
- Valkyrie: Jane Foster Vol 1: The Sacred and the Profane
- Valkyrie: Jane Foster Vol 2: At the End of All Things
