Excellent review, Martin. You have very clearly identified the only two faults with this otherwise engaging and brilliantly researched book — the morale and shell shock question, and the reason for the drop off in shell shock. Perhaps there was little research for him to rely on to answer these questions and if that was so, it would have been good to have known that.
