Bev January 2026 kicks off the fifteenth year for the Mount TBR Reading Challenge and my mountain ranges just have shrunk even less than usual--due in part to life going off the rails in November. I still have mountain ranges to climb. And miles of bookcases to read before I sleep (or something like that). I just can't resist a good old fashioned used bookstore (though they are become rarer and rarer) or the community Hoosier Hills Food Bank Book Sale which adds to the mountains as fast as I knock books off. And my mountain range seems to be just as vast as ever.

So, here we are again, planning to concentrate on reading primarily from my own books in the coming year. In both 2021 and 2022 I actually planted a flag on Mount Olympus...I'm not sure that will ever happen again (especially when real life becomes a bit of a challenge as well). So, my declared goal will remain Mount Everest. Please join me in knocking out some of those books that have been waiting for attention for weeks...months...even years.

KeenReader Hi I'm KeenReader, back for my 5th climb. Normally I don't get past Mt Wychproof, although I have loads of books waiting to be read, I am determined to change that in 2026, so I am going straight for Pike's Peak. Good luck, fellow climbers!

Natália Lopes Hey, yall! I'm Natalia, a.k.a Nati and I'm back for another year!
Though my TBR isn't exactly shrinking (it's smaller than last year? Idk, my shelves have some empty space at least), I feel like since starting my yearly climbs, I have at least achieved my set goals for the year, either in number of books or side objectives (finishing my on-going series, reading my physical books, etc).
This year I'll be scaling down after being bold to try El Toro outright in 2025, so back to Kilimanjaro we go!
Good climbing, fellow readers!

Sophia Howdy, all!

I'm Sophia from Michigan and I'm not sure how many years I've participated (let's just say 5+) and I finally conquered Mt. Olympus for the first time this last year. I really want to do it again since I have a staggering TBR pile, but I will set my sights on Mt. Toro.

Thanks for hosting, Bev! Cheering on all our climbers!

Kirsten After taking a couple of years off from this challenge due to life just feeling like too much, I'm looking forward to coming back for my eighth year of climbing! In the past I have generally attempted Mont Blanc, with about a 50% success rate, but this year I'm going to start with Pike's Peak and see how things go. My focus has been horrible lately - I'm hoping that joining this challenge again will give me some extra motivation to stop doomscrolling on FB and pick up a book instead. I'm not going to pretend it'll help me go to bed at a decent hour, but I know I'll feel better in the long run if I'm up until 2am reading a good book rather than spiraling about things I have no control over.

Conny Hi, I'm Conny, and I'm a bookaholic.

2026 marks my tenth anniversary for this challenge (woo-hoo!), and at this point, I wouldn't miss it for the world, so thank you so much for hosting again, Bev <3

I've been a bookworm since I was five years old. My go-to genres are thriller/mystery/detective, YA, and horror, and I also enjoy the occasional romance/chick lit, fantasy/SF, or literary fiction. I read in three languages (my native German, English, and Spanish).

I will pledge 75 TBR books as usual (out of a total reading count of 100+ books per year) to leave some room for spontaneous purchases and borrowed books. As always, I'll be posting a list of my unread books owned prior to January 1, 2026, at the top of my thread to keep myself accountable. I also might start a bit later to get a few leftover Kindle Unlimited books out of the way before tackling the actual TBR.

Looking forward to climbing with you all again :)

Janet Smith since two 2026 is the year that I really focus on reading my own books. This seems like a great challenge for me

message 8: by Rokkan (new)

Rokkan Hi I'm Rokk and I'm back yet again. My TBR is slooooooowly getting shorter. I live too close to a library and have been expanding my NetGalley experience so there are always new books but fewer bought ones. 2025 was the year I finally got around to War and Peace, so that's one beast knocked off the list. Only a few hundred more to go...
