Jasmine The nominations for July are now open.

For June the theme is flight. All nominations must be Historical Fiction (meeting our definition) that was published at least three months prior to July, and must relate to the theme. Please include the publication date and how the book relates to the theme in your nomination for it to be counted. The book MUST also be available in all three formats-Book, ebook, and audiobook.

REMINDERS
NO SELF NOMINATION- Any member who self nominates a book, will have the post deleted and the member will be removed from the group.
NOMINATION POST MUST INCLUDE: TITLE, AUTHOR, AND PUBLICATION DATE - If any one of these three things is missing from the nomination post, it will not be counted.
EVERY MEMBER GETS ONE NOMINATION AND ONE SECOND - Please make sure you are clearly marking if you are nominating and/or seconding a book. Too much extra chatter in the nomination thread makes it difficult for the moderators to keep track of the books that need to be counted.
BOOKS IN A SERIES MUST BE READ IN SERIES ORDER -Book 4 in a series cannot be nominated if the group has not read books 1-3
For a complete breakdown of how the nomination process works, see this thread - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE look over the bookshelf containing all of the past group reads. Past group reads cannot be nominated again -

Nominations will close on May 15th.

Kylie I would like to nominate Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead. It is about a female pilot, and is set in various locations during prohibition. It was published in 2021. It is available in all formats.
I've had this on my shelf forever and really want to read it! Maybe this would be the push I need.

[book:The Night Angels: Secret missions over war-torn Europe..."

Hello, unfortunately this looks like it is the second in a series and we have not read the first book as a group.

message 17: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok Debbie wrote: "“Kin” by Tayari Jones (2026). Apologies for no link, I’m on my phone and GR app doesn’t offer that."

Does that book have to do with flight?

message 18: by Colleen Chi-Girl (new)

Colleen Chi-Girl What a great theme, Jasmine! What really is exciting is seeing books about women and written by women. I'll do a little reviewing of the suggestions and thanks to all who mentioned them.

message 19: by Colleen Chi-Girl (new)

Colleen Chi-Girl I read a memoir of Beryl Markham some years ago, so I checked the Paula McLain novel and then noticed another very highly rated one on Beryl M by Mary S. Lovell that I'll nominate, if another book is needed. If not, I'll make a choice based on the others above.

Abigail Bok I think we’ve read Code Name Verity in this group before—did you check?

Abigail Bok Margaret wrote: "We’ve read Code name Helene but I don’t see Code Name Verity"

Ah, that must be what I was thinking of! I’m sure I’ve read it—must’ve been in another group.

message 25: by Melanie (new)

Melanie A Colleen, I read at least 30 years ago, West With The Night. It is autobiographical, written by Beryl Markham, herself. I remember loving the prose as much as the story of her life. I would nominate this one but it is not available in three formats. Highly recommend.

message 26: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Code Name Verity was read by this group back in May of 2013, otherwise I would second it (love that book!).

message 27: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Crampton Apologies Code name Verity is removed

Jasmine Colleen Chi-Girl wrote: "I read a memoir of Beryl Markham some years ago, so I checked the Paula McLain novel and then noticed another very highly rated one on Beryl M by Mary S. Lovell that I'll nominate, if another book ..."

It looks like this is nonfiction. For this month, we are reading fictional books. Next month we will do our fiction/nonfiction combo.

message 29: by Colleen Chi-Girl (new)

Colleen Chi-Girl Thanks for your comments above. Appreciate it!
