I know this is an old comment so you may not see it but look at the case of Jayme Closs. Her parents were shot and killed and she was kidnapped and held captive. He saw her get off the bus and walk home one day. Also Shasta groene in Idaho her mom, Dad other family members all killed her and her brother kidnapped, kept until the guy got tired of the brother then he killed him and kept her till she was rescued. It DOES happen
This isn't about true-crime trivia, it's a book discussion & readers are commenting that the Randy character doesn't feel authentic in this story.
Thanks for the input. I definitely stand corrected. God what a horrifying story. Now I'm thinking it's possibly the first case you cite might have been the inspiration for this story?
Citing random facts about violence & serial killing isn't the same thing as writing a book with an actual plot that makes sense. Your first comment several months ago was correct.
You gotta admit she has a good point. We were all saying how implausible this murder / kidnapping was - and she gave us a real world example of one that was pretty much identical.
Nothing is "implausible" in today's world, we all know that. We've been trying to say that doesn't necessarily make for a good book.
Sure - but it was literally the "implausibility" of the story I was criticizing:) AKA - I as wrong to criticize it's implausibility because it has literally happened in real life.
