Womanism is a term coined by Alice Walker, in an effort to address the concerns of women of color marginalized by the Feminist movement. Unlike feminism, womanism "elevates all sites and forms of oppression, whether they are based on social-address categories like gender, race, or class, to a level of equal concern and action. [close] The Feminist Book Club is a democratic collective dedicated to DIY education, respect, and community. The FBC aims to create a space to engage with feminist literature and other critical medias to facilitate growth and friendship in Vancouver's feminist community. We welcome everyone regardless of ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, or gender identity (this means that men are welcome to participate!). The FBC recognizes that there are multiple interpretations of feminism and we are interested in raising awareness by investigating feminism through critical media and visual culture. The FBC denounces the dismissal of the feminist movement as redundant. Showing solidarity within the FBC and the community at large we stand together in the margins to fight against social oppression.* Venue: Our headquarters are currently located at Spartacus Books,684 East Hastings Street Vancouver, Coast Salish Territory, BC.
