Hello, My English teacher Mrs. Mcgimsey is the teacher that I chose to focus on Mrs. Mcgimsey is basing her class teachings on Historical Criticism. I remember the class thought she made us focus on ancient artifacts like books novels magazines that directly influenced the author and his text. Some of the other things that we did we watched a lot of ancient movies like Macbeth these movies were interesting also we seen Beowulf in both movies and novels we used historical criticism to find the connection to the author. Mrs.Mcgimsey always made the class very fun teaching us about the relation of the things that historical criticism focuses on. And based on these subtopics we had our lessons in the class like group projects including a poem which had a lot of artifacts and religious issues inscribed in the poem. This showed how the author also thinks about literary schools when he is writing. Each author is different and we identified poems with different types of subtopics of historical criticism like Religion Artifacts etc …..The author experiences it and it influences the text. This connects to historical criticism because historical criticism focuses on the author and what influences him like for example artifacts political events or religion. We made some projects in her class about the different lit schools, but it was in poem form so this also supports the idea of historical criticism. Thus I would have to say that her literary school would have to be historical Criticism.
"With a sort of obstinacy the father refused to take off his messenger’s uniform even at home ....as if he were always ready to do his work and were awaiting his superiors orders even here"(Kafka 39).The father goes through the biggest change of all. In the beginning of the novel he didn’t have any work. Now he is obsessed with his work. He refuses to take off his uniform. That is such a stereotype. In the beginning he didn’t much care for his work or the idea that he is not employed. He is still the man of the house. Now that he has a job he feels more satisfied and thus this strengthens his idea as being the man of the house. The man of the house should provide the money for his family. Again money is power Gregory's dad certainly has more power now than he did in the beginning of the story. When he was mad at Gregor in the beginning of the novel he yelled and screamed but now he attacks him with apples and he doesn’t even look back to see if Gregor is OK.”…..From which he suffered for more than a month – since no one dared to remove the apple , it remained in his flesh as a visible reminder”(Kafka 38).This type of action requires an individual to have certain power within him. If Gregory’s father wouldn’t have this power he wouldn’t attacked him in the first place. This is a huge transformation from screaming and yelling to attacking your own son with an apple and not ewer worrying about if he is still alive, Gregory’s father only thinks about himself and no one else.
Kafka sees women as a symbol of weakness. Kafka thinks that they have no power over anything. As we are reading the story Metamorphosis we see the fact that women play a major role in the story. Kafka gives all of the power to the man of the house. Gregor father , the mother is really powerless we can see this “no matter how humbly he turned his head his father only stamped his feet harder “( Kafka 23).This shows that the father is in charge and that Gregor has no say. If the man is doing this then Kafka wants the women to have no power / opinion in this story. The mother can’t even see Gregor because the father forbids the mother from seeing him and he mother listens to him and assumes that whatever the man says is correct and right for her. The relationship between Gregor and the sister is getting pretty interesting also. She cares for him but also she is the one that wants his money so she can go to violin school. So again poor Gregor has to make the money as the Man in the family He is expected to be the provider for the family. This thought is pretty unique and very unusual. These days all people work, just like the modernists would of like to. Everyone is just trying to survive. The gender roles are visible in the modern world. Like the women are expected to look beautiful everyday and the men are expected to be the main support beam of the family.
Lucero wrote: "it was so totally not fair that gregor's boss went to his house. i don't see why he would have to because i think that Gregor is very loyal to his job and i don't think that was very necessary." I agree Gregor's boss shouldn't done that.No one would like the idea that your manager comes to your house and tells you what to do.The manager should trust Gregor what to do and he should know that Gregor is responsible to come to work every day.Everyone has their day in which you don't feel like it your not obligated to come to work every day. Gregor is there most of the time and he knows about this very well he is the one that is paying off the debt that is not even his.
I think that Gregor will snap out of it fom the whole bug idea. Dont forget he was in the the Military , what do you guys think ?
I also believe that Kafka was a Modernist. In the book Metamorphosis he follows many modernist ideas and ways such as Exposition and Resolution. We can see this just by reading the story. He uses modernist ideas all the time like this time that he is running late to work and he is having a battle with his body and the alarm clock. "And he glanced over toward his alarm clock, which was ticking on the wardrobe, father in heaven! He thought as he was half past six "(Kafka 12). Right there in that quote we can see the modernism, because this can happen to all of us and we can relate to it so it is realistic and modernist idea, the story gets right to the action. The story is full of action and modernist ideas such as Kafka trying to pay off the debt to his manager for his family, that is a common problem that many of us have and we struggle with it every day such as Kafka squirming leg and getting out of bed and going to work he is tired of it. But Gregor fought on like a warrior because he knows that he needs to pay of the debt for his family "I've got to get up , because my train leaves at five" (Kafka 12).So to sum in all up he did get out of bed and he keeps encouraging the same frustrations like us. Job pressure and family pressure in our everyday lives Again we can relate to that, if we can relate to it then it is a modernist idea. Kafka doesn’t play around he transforms a boring story into a story that has a lot of action. Kafka is a modernist.
The Story is very unique.I mean Mrs. Mallard is trapped in a room and she is looking outside the window and she doesn't know what to think because everything is outside and there is nothing on the inside. When you imagine your self in Mrs. Mallard's shoes you you suddenly realize that you are trapped in the room but also in your own mind. Then she makes a surprising statement I'm free when I find out that my husband has died. Why would she say this? I mean she married him because of love , and now she is stating that she is finally free when he dies that is very weird and strange. So yeah this is a strange story but we got through it in the class so now I understand.
I'm also gratefull for being a part of this historical event. I'm amazed that we as people have come this far as to having a AF president but overall he is promising a big change for alAmedica so we will see how it will turn out.During his speech yesterday he mentioned a lot.of good points regarding the economy and the protection of out planet global warming. He wants to get away from using renewable resources and he wants to make laws which will endorse the environmental protection act. Increase jobs and GDP of our people and our nation. So overall this president is what America needed hopefully he will live up to his promises.
The Mother also wants her daughter to grow up into a perfect woman.Something that society wants. The rules that the mother is setting for her daughter is what the mother believes defines a perfect ideal woman in society. The rules are pretty grotesques but the daughter will have to follow them because she deep inside knows that it is the right thing for her to do.I just don't understand why she cant get more that two lines in the story to express her opinion. Talk about freedom of speech she should have the right to say no to her rules if she doesn't like them. But the daughter doesn't like the rules but she knows that the ideal women in society acts by the rules that the mother is giving her.Like all mothers she wants only the best for her daughter and she wants to be proud of her some day so she can look up to her on day and say look that is my daughter and look how ideal she is. She represents what society wants in a prefect woman. This is all i have to say about this there is no better way to explain it.Parents only want the best for their children but sometimes the child doesn't understand this. It's hard but they have to over come it and work something out between the mother and the daughter. This way the relationship can still work and they will have their life much easier.
The mother wants to set an example of a proper womman behavior. The real question now is if the daughter will look and recognize the fact that the mother is actualy trying to help her.By showing the daughter how to act and how to not act.

I like books too , but they gave to be interesting for me. If I don’t find them interesting I don’t read them.
I think that we should concentrate more on the essay and correcting it instead of going to see the movie on Friday. What do you think?
