10121 My last year's teacher, Mr. LeWan, falls in the historical lit. school. Cultural also falls into historical so he was a little of both but he would make us read historical events, poems, articals, etc. Besides Beawolf and Macbeth, we also read about the canterbury tales, these tales included feminist crit. and marxist, but Mr. LeWan wouldn't go real into that. He would make us do projects that would provide old things we had at home and stuff from stores. With these materials we would make mask to use in a play or make knights and monks, characters in other words, out of bottles. And then cultural comes along, we would watch different movie versions of Macbeth. He's show us the difference between them. Even though many people thought this class was boring, I think I was a very interesting class, yea he would make us read a lot but in the long run it was fun and learingful!

10121 I AGREE WITH MOST STUDENTS THAT BELIEVE THAT KAFKA IS A MODERNIST. AS KAFKA MENTIONS IN THIS BOOK, "WHEN GREGOR WAS ALREADY PROJECTING HALFWAY OUT OF BED- THIS NEW METHOD WAS MORE OF A GAME THAN A HARD RISK, ALL HE NEEDED TO DO WAS KEEP ROCKING BACK AND FORTH..."(KAFKA 15). HERE KAFKA IS LETTING THE READER KNOW ABOUT GREGOR'S SO CALLED "BATTLE", HOW HE STRUGGLES TO GET UP AND USED ALL TYPES OF IMAGERY. THIS NEW "METHOD" FOR GREGOR WAS DIFFICULT. HE NEEDED TO KEEP TRYING HARD ENOUGH TO GET UP BUT HE WAS DOING HIS BEST. KAFKA LETS THE READER KNOW THAT THIS WILL BECOME A NEW CHALLANGE FOR GREGOR.
I DEFENATLY AGREE WITH JOE, ABOUT HOW KAFKA IS A "NEW AND DIFFERENT" MODERNIST. I BELIEVE THAT KAFKA WROTE HIS STORIES TO SHOW OTHERS WHAT HE THOUGHT OF THE WORLD. IM GUESS AT THE TIME HOW KAFKA WAS GROWING UP, BETWEEN THE WARS AND WANTED TO RELATE GREGOR AND THE OTHER CHARACTERS IN THE STORY AS THE NAZI AND JEWS. I ALSO AGREE WITH ANA ABOUT HOW GREGOR IS TRYING TO PAY OFF HIS FAMILY DEBT. HE IS NOT CONCENTRATING ON HOW TO BE A BUG AND IS HAVE TROUBLE. MAYBE THATS WHY KAFKA WANTED TO TRANSFORM GREGOR INSTEAD OF INSTEAD OF SOMEONE ELSE. KAFKA WANTED US TO SEE WHAT GREGOR IS CAPEABLE OF DOING BY TRANSFORMING HIM.

10121 I agree with Eric i think it had many understandings to it. Kate should had explained it a little better but that was her way of writing. I also agreed with Devin, I was totally confused about how her husband didn't die but she did. I still am but hey she wrote it that way for a reason. I also strongly disagree with Armand's comment. I don't think that Mrs. Mallard wanted to "sleep around" that makes no sense at all. And Mrs. Mallard had a good time with her husband, she said it herself. The only thing she was happy about was that she now had her freedom. But i guess some people just don't get it. I strongly agree with Ana about how many women are now independent and have a choice in things.

Inaugeration (48 new)

10121 Well to start off with that I am super mad because I didn't watch the inauguration yesterday, I still think that President Obama will make a GREAT president. At first when people where saying that his was "history" I never understood why.... I never thought about him being the first "black" president. I believe it doesn't matter what skin color you have, or what language you speak, i think what matters is that you know your a leader and can lead a nation. That is what I think a president is. I feel like I have the "Obama drug" because I feel that now that I know a lot about all this politics stuff it makes me feel like I know what people are talking about. 'Cause to be honest I never really like politics and it was because i didn't know what was going on. Thats why when i was able to vote i made sure i knew who i was going to vote for and not just go with what others were saying. I think that President Obama will bring change to our nation but I also know that this will require time and patients. Im glad to be part of this and i know that this will help my children and my children's children lol :]

10121 I really enjoyed having this discussion in class. At first, like everyone else, i was confused but then after we talked about it in class I had a way better understanding of it. At first I thought that the mother was just trying to lead her daughter into the right direction by letting her daughter know whats "lady like" and whats being a "slut". But then when the mother wouldn't stop talking and didn't let her daughter say what she thought that's when i kind of was like, ok i think she's going a little over board. But i guess every mother wants the best for their child, some mothers might be good at explaining and some, like this one, are not. I felt as if the story never ended but then i figured there was no ending to it. The mother gave pretty weird explaining's but it was worth it because like i said before every mother wants the best but some just don't know how to deal with it.
