10121 I agree with Joe when he stated that besides Gregor's transformation, the father has went through his own change. Gregor has went through his tranformation just as well as his father. "Now his father was a , healthy man, to be sure, but old; He hadn't done any work for 5 years and in anycase could'nt be expected to over exert himself" (Kafka 30). This is saying to me that Gregor father is able to do work but he isnt able to over do his job due to his age. I also think that the mother and the daughter has went through a transformation too. Grete has become this "slave" for her brother Gregor she trying to help him out during his transformation. Not only does she help him she is the only brave one to enter his room and help out. Before Gregor transformation Grete wasnt as nice as she was now. I think she feel that she owe him something. It was the least that she could do for him after all he was "PROVIDER" for the family unlike the father. "We've tried all that's humanly possible to take care of it and put up with it. I think no one can reproach us in the slightest" (Kafka 47). This is staing that she has done whatever she could do to help him to her best of her abilty but she now feels that she can't help out anymore. I dont think that the mother has went through a physical transformation but it has been an emotional transformation for her to see her child (son) transform into a bug. She just doin her job to cry and care like a mother would do for her child.

10121 In the story Metamorphisis, Kafka seems to make a negative impact on males. Such as how "supposely" the man of the house is run his family and pay bills. It seems to me that Gregor father is doing whta he has to do to take leadership of his household. "In the first two weeks his parents couldnt muster the courage to come into his room, and he often heard them expressing complete satisfaction with the work his sister was now doing"...... "But often now, both of them, the father and the mother, waited in front of Gregor's room while his sister was cleaning up in there" (Kafka 32). This shows me that the father was not physically nor was he mentally strong enough to go into his son room to see how he was doing. How does this make him the king of his household? Are these male character traits? I think that in this book Metamorphisis, Kafka, was trying to depict males as the weaker ones n females as the strong ones.

10121 What will Gregor family do now that he has become a bug? How will they pay off their debt? Will Gregor become a human again?

10121 I do believe that Kafka is following Modernist ideas. We are able to tell that Kafka is following Modernist ideas when he stated "What's happened to me?'' he thougth. It was no dream." (Kafka 11). He made it very clear that he was a modernist. I also agree with Ana about todays topic in class. at first i didn't quite understand what was going on at first until we broke it down on the double-sided notes. At first i was thinking thah Gregor was working just to pay off his parent debt, but i also learned that he doesnt own anything of his OWN AT ALL. So now i have a somewhat understanding of what going on now. My question now is what will his parents do now to pay off their debt if Gregor cant't work now because he's a ernormous bug now??????

10121 The short story,"The Story of an Hour" shows how a wife was being entraped in her marriage and that she wasnt very happy. Mrs. Mallard was very happy with her marriage but she didnt show it until her husband was "supposely" died. Mrs. Mallard was also being compared to a child that was very powerless. her will was the only thing that kept her because she had a strong mind thought that if she try to do somthing then with all wills she can succeed.

10121 I agree with Rana tooo. I think that the mother is just passing down some knowledge that was given to her as i stated during class. The mother may seen to be "jumping down her daughters throat" but she jus coming to her daughter the best way that she knows how to. Sometimes females need to be talk to in a harsh way for us to intrept things in a correct matter. The daughter really didnt have much to say b/c she didnt want to seem disrespectful while her mother was tslking t her. but overall i did get a clear understanding of the story Jamaica Kincaid.
