It's crazy to think that this group has been inactive for close to a year... but now I'm back! The craziness of drill team and school have come to an end, if only for a couple of months. Now back to the point... One of this month's books is Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. I picked this because it looks like a nice, easy summer read. I hope that you guys enjoy it just as much as I am! Let me know what y'all are thinking as you read it!
I finally finished The Kite Runner, and I was just letting you guys know that I would love to discuss it with y'all!
Sorry that I didn't have time to announce this earlier! This month's book will be The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. This book looked really interesting, and I've heard great things about it. So I'll start the reading in about 10 days or so, and we can start discussing after that :)
Thanks!
(sorry it took so long to respond; I've been so busy!)I have an old kindle, and it's not my favorite thing in the world. If I can find a book on there for free or at a greatly discounted price, I'll read it on there. However, for the most part, I tend to stick more towards actual paper books :)
I think that Jonas was definitely too young to watch the death, and I think that the language was used in a very great way, to make the book seem more real and almost like it was a different world, but one that we could possibly attain. The one thing that threw me off was the colors thing... I suppose that bothered me because I just can't imagine it, but I liked everything else.
This might be a spoiler for you, but I think that it means that they are killed by the government worker/person watching over them.
I'm almost through, and I completely agree with you. I think that Lowry did a fantastic job with making the novel seem realistic in a way; I honestly got a bit scared around halfway through!
The book that I have chosen this month based on the feedback that I received is going to be The Giver by Lois Lowry. :) I'd really appreciate it if y'all would take part in this, although it is obviously optional. :) Feel free to post your reviews to this thread or create your own, more specific thread about the book.
Penny wrote: "The Giver by Lois Lowry looks interesting...not so drawn in by Matched"Thanks for the input :)
Penny wrote: "sounds like an awesome idea, what are you planning for the first book?"I'm not quite sure yet; I'm thinking Matched by Ally Condie, but it's not set in stone. I was also thinking of doing The Giver by Lois Lowry. I'll make an announcement around the first day of June, and then discussion will probably start around June 7th :)If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them!
Each month, I will decide on a book for us to read as a group (it's completely optional), and then we can just talk about it!! Please let me know any books that you guys would like us to read by posting it in this topic. Thanks!
Honestly, I don't believe that I've ever read an art book(don't judge :P). I may look into that, though :)(sorry this really didn't answer the question that you asked, but I don't have much information on the subject... I mostly stick to classics and teen/young adult novels :) )
Penny wrote: "I keep meaning to read this book."I thought that it was really good, and I would definitely recommend it!
So this is for The Perks of Being a Wallflower.Honestly, the book confused me. Did I miss something along the way? I don't understand who the main character was writing to! Also, what even ARE the perks of being a wallflower? I don't understand what they were... it seemed like the perks were solely alcohol and drug abuse.
The book was raunchier than I was expecting, and I think that basing my expectations for this book on other people's reviews really set the bar pretty high for this book. However, in my opinion, this novel fell short of my expectations in more ways than one.
Please explain to me what was going on!! I'd love to hear what you guys think about this novel... I'm sure I'm just missing some symbolism. :)
