Fatima, do you have any idea about what you want to write about? I always start by writing an outline.

Hi Heather and Audrey! It seems like you are both asking the same question. I've definitely had times where I wrote a few chapters and then I stopped. I just wasn't fully inspired at that time. When THE story pops into your head, you won't be able to stop. At least that is what happened for me. I was so inspired by my characters and plot line for In Shadows of Magic that I wrote non-stop every waking moment that I wasn't at my job. So I guess that's not great advice, but that's how it happened for me. I hope both of you find inspiration like that as well! :-)

Hi Jessicah! Thanks for your kind words about my book! I look forward to discussing it with you after you have read it. :-)Here's my advice for you in regards to your question. Don't worry about writing a "beginning". Just start writing in the midst of the action. Provide clues through dialogue and description so that the reader can figure out relationships between characters. This keeps the reader engaged. You don't want to "information dump" by writing long paragraphs of explanation of how the characters know each other. You say you have parts of the book mapped out in your head: I would say start with those parts and then see where it goes from there.
What is your book about? I love chatting with other writers, so let me know if you have any more questions! I hope my advice will be useful for you.
:-)
