1248307 Nellie Green the Jelly Bean by E.F. Clark
Clark, EF. (2011)Nellie Green The Jelly Bean. Smashwords by EF Clark Publishing.

The content of the poem is that Nellie Green was a jellybean that was made different. She was made different for a reason, to show that what makes us different makes us who we are.

I would recommend this poem to children because it shows the reality of life and how hard it can be at times. This poem shows that we are all unique in our own ways and that sometimes others can be mean. It shows that no matter how others treat you, as long as you stay true to yourself you will be okay.
1248307 Our Class is a Family (The Classroom Community Collection) by Shannon Olsen

"So if our classroom is the place where we spend most of our days, why wouldn't we want to make it like a home in many ways".

The book does a really good job in portraying the reality of life for children. As a teacher myself, spending 8 hours a day with students, you do start to get the sense of a small community or family. This book shows that family is not only those who are related to you by blood, but family could be your close friends to. Understanding what the meaning of family is can show that teachers and admin are also family. I think that a story like this is good for children to see another side of things.
1248307 Inside the Human Body (The Magic School Bus, #3) by Joanna Cole

Cole, J. (1990). The Magic School Bus: Inside the Human Body. Scholastic Press.

Arnold, one of the students in Miss.Frizzles class swallows the magic school bus. The students in his class get to take a trip through Arnolds stomach and learn about the human body.

This story takes place in a school classroom where students get to learn about different topics of science through the use of a magic school bus. The setting plays an important role in the contemporary times because the setting is in a school classroom. Although this book was publish in the 1990's the classroom settings do not seem to have changed throughout time. The part that makes it science fiction is through the eyes of learning from a different perspective. Learning about the part of the human body are very much the same, but being able to swallow a bus and "travel" through the human body we know if unrealistic. One great thing about the Magic School Bus series is that it is not just a book, but also a series of videos. This is a great and fun learning aid to use to learn about scientific information. Always enjoy reading through these series of books.
1248307 The Not-So-Wicked Witch by Bethan Stevens

Stevens, Bethan. (2024) The not so wicked witch. Frances Lincoln Children's Books.

This is the littlest witch and she does not like being wicked like the others.

While this story is seen as a fantasy book, this book does have a somewhat true meaning behind it. As we have grown up as children we often see the witch or the term being associated with a bitter and mean personality. This story shows that not all witches are mean. This can connect with the reality that not all people are mean and that there will be people out there that will try to get you do do things that will hurt others, but you have the choice to be nice or be mean. This was an enjoyable book and think it would be a great lesson on self reflection for young students.

1248307 Very First Questions and Answers Why should I brush my teeth? (Usborne Lift-the-flap) by Katie Daynes

Daynes, Katie. (2019) Why should I brush my teeth. EDC Publishing/UBAM.

Why should I brush my teeth is an informational flip book series for children about the importance of brushing their teeth. The book discusses the health of your teeth from infancy to elderly, explaining how to brush your teeth properly, what cavities are, and how bacteria play a vital role.

K: prior to reading this book, I knew how bacteria, sugary foods, and lack of brushing correctly has a huge effect on the health of your teeth.

W: Reading this book, there was nothing in particular that I wanted to know.

L: What I have learned was that there are so many ways to help a child understand the importance of taking care of your personal hygiene. In this book I have learned that you brush your teeth for at least 2 minutes. I have been to the dentist many of times and they focus on the correct way to brush, but I have never heard my dentist give a time frame.

1248307 The Boy and the Bear by Peter Stein

Stein, P. (2019). The boy and the bear. First edition. New York, Holiday House.

The boy. The bear. Always a pair. None of the other could ever compare.

This book is a book written for an age range of preschool to 2nd grade. The Boy and the Bear is a short story that uses art and rhyming to show different forms of emotion throughout the book. This is a great book that focuses on the social emotion aspects of life in a way that young children can understand. This was an enjoyable book to read and even as an adult, we could also connect with this book in a fun manner. This is a great book to read when teaching a lesson on the different forms of emotion.

1248307 Alphabet Zoo (Padded Large Learner) by Stephen T. Holmes

Alphabet Zoo

Holmes,S. (2004). Alphabet Zoo (Parragon Publishing).

Alphabet Book:
This book is a book that goes through the 26 letters of the alphabet using animals as the characters. Throughout this book, it is also allowing the young readers to learn to spell animal names, look for the animals, and the letter they start with.

Alphabet Zoo uses a variety of colors and shapes throughout the book making it very kid friendly and easy to follow along. The book has many learning styles such as having a capital and lowercase for each letter, a sentence or two that almost rhyme but is also teaching objects using animal references. An example from the book states: "can you spot: A laughing lizard lying on a leaf" for the letter L. The book also gets the readers learning by using a "I-Spy" style of teaching/learning. This is a great learning tool for a PreK-Kindergarten age group! As an adult, I enjoyed this style of book.
