1258082 inherently i think most religions stem from love, and trying to love others more than yourself. However, some modernized religions (take a guess at what they are) have stopped trying to do that.

I actually believe that the problem is people using religion as an excuse so they can say they are "sticking to their beliefs" while in reality promoting hate.
they say: "but i'm doing it in the name of _____ to defend ____!!"
when really its just a way for them to get away with being hateful. The religion itself is NOT the problem because again, at its core most religions believe in loving one another/ forgiveness. and if you argue that there are religions where certain minorities are targeted, that IS true, but remember that someone came up with that religion in the first place. so actually i think that calling a religion harmful depends on the person who came up with the religion and what they had in mind when they stared it.

i ofc mean all of this with love, believe in what you want to believe in no judgment as long as you are respectful <3

1258082 My personal opinion is that science is real, explains everything, and what we don't know yet is God until proven otherwise. But also, I spent like an hour trying to think of how god came to be (like how he just popped into existence), and I got nothing, so I think at some point you just have to turn off your brain and go read a book :)

1258082 But where did god come from??? You can't just say he was always there because in the bible it says there was nothing before god SO HOW DID HE SHOW UP?? I am catholic btw, and I'm not criticizing believing in God, I'm just saying that in the bible it says there was nothing before Him, and then it just cuts to when He is there. I have many questions.

1258082 The point I bring up to people all the time is, sure, god may have started the Big Bang, but then who started god? You can't make something from nothing. That's just not how it works. That's why it's really confusing for me because I believe in god, but also in science. smh.

1258082 @syd I watched the videos (thanks for providing them) and I understand where you and the parents are coming from. HOWEVER, I still believe that having sex scenes in YA novels is fine TO A CERTAIN LEVEL. If books like Haunting Adaline or other books on that level are available to children, I would be concerned. But the sex scenes in most of these books are very mild and, to me personally, aren't super concerning. Sex is just a thing that some teenagers do, and because of that, authors put it in books. But the last thing in my very long paragraph is that you argued that these books should be BANNED. Banning books is an extreme form of suppressing people's freedom of speech. That is not something I believe in, and it seems mean to take away the ability for someone to read a book they love because of one chapter.

1258082 @syd you should remember that parents have lied or over-exaggerated the truth at meetings like that for their benefit, but I absolutely agree with you about having content warnings in ALL books that might have triggering topics. Just saying that the videos you might have seen could have been slightly dramatized because of parents being irrational. It might have been a book about parts of the body and teaching kids to be mindful about keeping their hands to themselves, and a parent could have misinterpreted that and thought the book was about touching kids.

That's an awesome way to look at it. I support lgbtq but I have a lot of friends who don't really and that's okay. It's very much an "agree to dissagree" situation, and everyone is just chil lol.

Seriously, when I was little I saw a gay couple on TV and I asked my mom about it. She asked me why I thought it was weird, because if a woman and a man could love each other, why can't two men or two women love each other? It didn't rock my world or make me lesbian, it just made sense.

1258082 Yeah, hate to break it to you, but men are people too. They too suffer from mental health issues, but for different reasons than women. There is SO MUCH STIGMA about sharing emotions for men bc is the "woman thing to do". If you are a man and you find yourself needing to talk to someone, DO IT!!
