A thought. . . The person responsible for the community (friends, etc.) was Russell Dicker. He introduced us to himself on one of the discussion boards, as I recall. His academic background? Industrial Management and Economics. In terms of the old "friends" and discussion boards arena, I think a sociologist or psychologist would have been much better. There was a social side to the friends network that someone in management, economics, or engineering is unlikely to understand. So, the selection of someone who did not understand social networks, etc. was most unfortunate. The social element was lost. Now, Amazon is a pretty cold place.
I haven't yet read anything there. I have enough books stacked up that I'm not sure that I will do any reading there.

I am quite sure that there are some friends whom I have forgotten about--but I have no record of my listing of friends and would not even know. Quite frustrating.
I find is stunning what happened at Amazon. Discussion groups don't work; the whole "Friends" system was simply terminated. I found it quite nice to communicate with friends through postings and so on. A pretty cold environment. More than that, I have lost track of some former friends whom I'd still like to communicate with from time to time.
Sounds like a cool book. How does one enter? Just let you know? This is a neat little feature, this contest of yours.
Hooray! My friends and interesting people are back on Amazon. . . . I realized now how many Friends and Interesting people I haven't been following, since I didn't recall all names.
Sounds cool! Look forward to the details. Sounds like any entrants in the context need to be prerpared to bribe the judges!Steve

Follow up. . . . I still have only 50 in each category. Is anyone here aware of when this limitation might end?
Aha! The mysery may be solved. One of my friends found that because of Amazon's crunching needs, temporarily only 50 Amazon Friends and 50 Interesting People could be listed per account. Soon, the full set (if one have more than 50 in either category) will be back.
Like other folks on Amazon, I now have just 50 friends and 50 interesting people. Probably a short term glitch. I'm just curious if there is anyone from Amazonland who had more than 50 friends or interesting people and who has NOT seen the number drop to 50.
I wish! But I haven't seen any real change in votes (other than the usual number of new ones). Anyone else have anything to say about Pam's question?
What's been members' experiences with the (sometimes) large decline in the number of "fan voters" reported in the rankings by Amazon? I went from somewhere around 250-260 to 81. Not nearly as large as some declines, but pretty substantial.
A book on Sheridan in the Shenandoah Valley (Civil War), a cookbook by Anthony Bourdain, a book about the Battle of Bentonville (Civil War), War Songs (by Grady Harp), and a vegetarian cookbook. . . .
My father once told me "Never volunteer." I didn't even know I was volunteering to be a moderator and it happened anyway! I'v sent off a batch of invitations (about 15).
Fans aren't so bad (at least someoen is reading my stuff!), but those wretched trolls! Looks like Amazon has been fairly successful at keeping my 2 persistent negginators (I'm lucky it's only 2) from having their no votes stick. I, too, am surprised at how many "fans" are counted for me.
I have gone over my list of Amazon friends whoe are also feiends on Goodreads. Worth inviting some of these to join this group?Judy Polhemus
