1272990 Right Book in the Wrong Market

Have you ever come across a really good book that just didn’t seem to get the attention it deserved? It happens more often than you’d think not because the book wasn’t good, but because it was the right book in the wrong market.

Many authors pour their hearts into crafting great stories or powerful nonfiction, yet their books don’t reach the readers who would truly appreciate them. Often, it’s not a writing problem it’s a visibility and positioning problem.

A few common examples:

A deep, character-driven mystery promoted like a fast-paced thriller.

A literary novel listed in the romance category because of a small love subplot.

A self-help book aimed at entrepreneurs but tagged under general psychology.

When your book’s genre, keywords, or audience targeting don’t align with what readers are actively looking for, even great writing can be overlooked. The key is making sure your marketing language, cover, and metadata all speak to the right crowd.

The right readers are out there — they just need to know your book exists.

Let’s discuss

Have you ever realized your book (or one you’ve read) was in the wrong market?

What did you learn from it?

What steps can authors take to make sure their books reach the right audience?

If anyone here ever needs help identifying their ideal market or optimizing their Goodreads and Amazon visibility, feel free to reach out to me at williesmason512@gmail.com

Hi Ronald,

That’s actually false Amazon doesn’t start showing Goodreads reviews after 30. The two platforms are separate, so reviews on Goodreads don’t automatically appear on your Amazon page.

However, having 30+ Goodreads reviews is still a great milestone! It helps boost your book’s discoverability, reader trust, and can indirectly increase your Amazon sales and reviews over time.
