In chapter 22, Hazel thinks "My old man. He always knew just what to say." What is your sense of her father? Does he come across as a really strong character, or does his conversation with her surprise you?
What internal conflict does Augustus struggle with? Support your thinking with evidence from the story.
Hazel really likes the novel An Imperial Affliction. What is this story about? Why do you think she likes it so much? Why is it so important for her to find out what happens to the characters of AIA?
Michelle, I agree with your points about Hazel Grace. I connected to the fact that Hazel Grace is 16 and already in college. She is quite an astonishing individual! Thanks for sharing.
What have you learned about Hazel Grace? What kind of person is she? How is she like any teen girl? How is she different?
How about the author's use of imagery? Imagery means to use figurative language to represent objects, actions and ideas in such a way that it appeals to our physical senses. Some ways imagery is developed is through the use of simile, metaphor, personification, and onomatopoeia. Identify Green's use of imagery and explain what you think it means.
Sometimes there's more to literature than what meets the eye. If a word, phrase, situation, or object appears in the story repeatedly, it is likely to mean something more than what it literally is. What potential symbols have you spotted in the novel?
Tell us a bit about yourself. What grade are you in? What do you like to read? Who is your favourite author?
