Showing 1-13 of 13

154732 A story or show that I thought of for dramatic irony is Breaking Bad. In the show Walter White is a science teacher and under the circumstances and his knowledge decides to produce meth. He starts off as a drug producer and as the show progresses so does his love for power. He starts killing people and plotting against them for his best interest. His love of power is what drives him to become one of the best drug dealers of that region.

The irony in the story Macbeth is that we know what everyone is conspiring against King Duncan and the others don't. Macbeth tricks Duncan by gaining his trust, while Lady Macbeth is planning to kill Duncan. Lady Macbeth is the one who convinces Macbeth to kill Duncan.

I was surprised with the story. I also thought of someone winning the lottery. How ironic that Shirley Jackson would consider naming her story for someone winning death. I would not want to win this lottery for sure.

I agree with you 100 %. Everybody in the village made their own choice of becoming a murderer when they threw a stone at Tessie. It is a shame that nobody in the village had any kind of remorse of murdering a young child.

154732 In the story "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson I believe everybody in the village is guilty of murder. The villagers want to wash their hands by saying that its tradition but nobody wants to stand up for their own beliefs. They decide to be followers and if they don't receive the black dot they decide to throw stones at the unlucky individual. All the villagers that threw a stone should be considered a murderer.

The Grinch is the perfect example to a villain. He tries in so many ways to ruin Christmas without realizing the true meaning. The people teach the Grinch that Christmas is more about presents and the true meaning of Christmas is what makes the Grinch change for the best.

I agree that bullying can be translated to something that happens in our daily life. Although it may not happen to us, bullying is a common problem in our society. I like your point about fitting in. Some people think that by changing themselves they fit in but being yourself is what makes you fit in.

154732 I choose to analyze "Horton Hears A Who". In this story Horton is considered to be a hero. He believes that a person is person no matter what size and will protect at them all costs. During his journey he encounters evil. The monkeys, kangaroos, and eagle try to work against Horton by trying to take away the speck. Once the speck is taken away from Horton he doesn't give up trying to find the speck. He searches over a million specks until he found the speck he was looking for. Horton believed in something and he saw the task ahead of him through. He didn't give up no matter the circumstances. In the end the people of Who-ville worked together and made enough noise for all the animals to believe Horton. This story symbolizes that everybody should be treated equally no matter of their size, shape, and form. My take from this story is that if everybody works together for the same cause that enough people will take notice. Also, if people don't believe in what you do that you shouldn't give up. "A person's a person no matter how small".

154732 I like that you choose the movie superman. This movie is the perfect example of good and evil. Good will always defeat evil is what we always should believe in. I also like the fact that you brought up the fact that Clark Kent is from another planet and he has to find a way to leave among humans.

I have not watched this movie, but what from what I have read you are right. You have given some good examples of being an outcast to how the character becomes a hero.

154732 The Archetypal character I would like to discuss is Moses in the movie Exodus. In the beginning of the movie Moses believes he was of Persian decent. As the story begins to unfold it becomes clear that he is of Jewish decent. I like how in the beginning he was viewed as a hero only to become an outcast. Later in the movie he leads his people away from danger making him a hero all over again.
Archetypal quest- I would say that Moses receives his orders from God and even though its hard to believe at the time, God comes through with all of his promises. It is Mose's quest to save his people from being executed by the Persian army.
Archetypal Symbol- There are many elements of symbols to this story. It starts at the Persian pyramids, the sea (Red Sea), and to the mountains to which Moses leads his people by and then again to the Red Sea that God parts.

I like how you mention that literature gives us the opportunity to interpret what the story is about. Literature comes in many forms, from stories to poems. I also agree that it is up to us to learn what the author is trying to come across.

I do agree with what you said. I think it is up to the reader to determine what he or she believes from a story. It is up to us to cypher what the character is trying to say.

154732 Literature in my opinion represents our culture, traditions, language, and or history. It is a way of letting people into our thoughts and history. We can express ourselves let our minds roam and explore other realms of thought. Literature doesn't have any limits, we can write from science fiction to true life events. Literature gives an opportunity to the writer to tell his side of the story in any way he wants. It is up to the reader to interpret and make his own assumptions on what the author is trying to say. Literature can also give the reader a look at the firsthand experience. It makes the reader think or believe that he is actually there. One of my favorite new books is the American Sniper. I have read this book and watched the movie. I preferred the book over the movie because when I was reading the book it took me to when I was there in Iraq in 2003. Although we never crossed paths we both were in Fallujah around the same time. It took me to a place that I have tried to forget. Literature has the power to rekindle that fire that you thought was or tried to forget.
