1574 Lynn, I still haven't seen message in a bottle - I agree though that often if you separate the novel from the movie it is fine, as long as they are both good. I did that with "A Walk to Remember" - I think I would have preferred it to be closer to the novel, but I still loved the film (any film that makes me cry must be good). -:)Doug

1574 I can't wait to see the movie - a little disappointing to hear that it doesn't follow the book more - :)Doug

1574 Well, all I can do is agree with everyone on "The Guardian" - well written, suspenseful, and unexpected - :)Doug

1574 It is just so hard to choose the best - I certainly like Brandie's list, but I must add "A Walk to Remember." Perhaps, I am partial to that particular novel, because it was my first of Nicholas Sparks' novels I read. :)Doug

1574 I really must agree with Rickie that 'Three weeks with my brother' is well worth reading and yes, there will be tears - :)Doug

1574 Vita, Allison,

I agree on the waiting period. I usually read a non-fiction book at the same time as a novel. That allows me to switch entirely to the non-fiction in between novels - I have to have my reading time!

1574 Allison,

For me, it is nice to read and not have to worry about being caught with tears in my eyes - :)doug

1574 Lynn,

I think you would have to be quite emotionally distant not to cry over the wonderful stories he creates. It is such a wonderful feeling to get that deeply involved in his novels. :)Doug

1574 I agree - I only read Nicholas Sparks at home, preferably when I can be alone or find some space to be away from others. I also agree that the characters stay with you...Doug

1574 Well I think I was close - I pronounced it row-danth-a - oh, well...:)doug

1574 Lynn,

I agree with Brandie, it is hard to pick a favorite among the ones you haven't read yet. I would recommend "A Walk to Remember" - it is quite different from the movie. It is based in the 1950's. Nicholas Sparks based the novel loosely on his sister's life. :)Doug

1574 Allison,

I am sure you will enjoy the novel. - :)doug

1574 Brandie,

"Three Weeks with my Brother" is written as well as any of his novels and reads like a novel. I highly recommend it. :)doug

1574 Vita,

"A Walk to Remember" was also the first of his novels I read. I appreciate your insight that it is a lot easier to to bring on a tearful experience with movies than novels. I also agree that Nicholas Sparks does it for me every time. :)Doug

1574 Brandie,

I am glad that "Dear John" is also in production. I am looking forward to the opening of "Nights in Rodanthe". :)doug
