What do you think is wrong with Rochester's wife? Did you expect that there would be something as mysterious as this situation in this book?
Did the fact that Rochester loves Jane surprise you? How do you suppose he thinks he can get around the fact that he has a wife already?
Why do you think that Mrs. Reed still treats Jane badly? Is there anything strange about the way that Jane responds to the knowledge that her uncle would like to know more about her and would have provided for her all along?
I also loved that exchange between our two characters! AND, this book gets more mysterious every chapter; a turn that I did not expect! I love it!
After thinking about Helen and what she was for Jane, I think she represented Jane's maturity. Through Helen, Jane realized that facing adversity was part of life and that SOMETIMES we must be mature for the better good.
I think this is very helpful! Though the original language is English, words come in and out of fashion sometimes. People cease to use them and then we lose them from our vocabulary.
