181806 2. I think Wayward Heroes is a good name for the book. The characters aren't happy throughout the book and gets the reader ready for the struggle/saga that they're about to read.

3. The Icelandic glyphs, foreign names, and esoteric references, and place names in particular really hindered and slowed down my reading. I'm convinced that Laxness threw in extra foreign names to really weed out readers. I found that I had to constantly reread sections, and each time I did I picked up more about the plot and characters. It was slow going.

9. I didn't find enough of a contemporary connection for the book to speak to me personally. I viewed it as an Icelander looking back and finding connections to his personal and country's past.

11. This book reminded me of Beowulf, but longer. It really took me a long time to get into the book, and my comprehension was slowed down because of the style. I can't say that I enjoyed the style, but it was something different and interesting compared to what I usually read. Because this book and it's style were so challenging for me, I read a chick-lit book immediately following and got through very quickly.

12. I'd say Laxness is a representative of the old Icelandic sagas. This book made me interested in them and provided a good challenge for reading!
